The control scheme is kinda reminiscent of Fight Night.

ave a look (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seFLojAOGvA&mode=related&search=)

I'd forgotten all about this game. They say you can record a sequence or take a 'photo' (in game I guess) and host it on X-Box Live. It better have online multiplayer that isn't just score attack. Like a pile of people skating a school or something would be great.

They're nonsensical in project 8. The board flips in ways it should never flip. It's pure shit.

mmm i wasn't all WHOA! like turd says, it did look very clunky. the vert/bowl shit looked very flow-y but the flatland/street shit looked very... i dunno. tony hawks 4 pissed all over it as far as smoothness goes.

ScarySquirrel
08-09-2007, 07:39 AM
It also has exclusive tracks produced by Z-Trip being made for it... so I know that's honestly one reason I'm interested in it.

But, anything other than Tony Hawk sounds like it might be a decent game at this point (to me, at least). I just get sick of each game seeming exactly like the previous one...

I was thinking the same thing, but not as a skater, but as someone who skates every now and then. I'll gamefly this bitch.

The difference between the shit on youtube and what's on the games' site is huge.

I'm gonna buy it after this semester. lol can't concentrate

Drederick Tatum

the fact that the Tony Hawk series got utterly unrealistic is pretty much what put me off the whole thing. 'oh look, I'm skating in the rafters, what should I do? I know, I'll quadruple kickflip down onto that moving car.' so yeah, I'll probably check this out somehow.

Z-Trip is remixing 'Lounge Act' which happens to be my favourite Nirvana song. And the Pistols re-recorded 'Pretty Vacant' this year specifically for the game.

One of the developers reckons you could skate (lol) from the top of the map to the bottom in 10 minutes. That's without stopping to session anything, if you know where you're going, and without getting hit by a car.

Seriously man, stop posting if you think you're too cool for this place (since you constantly try to remind us you are). You're the only one who thinks it, though. I like to hope your friend is just using your account to try and make you look dumb.

How many of you have looked at the daily clips?

Stop drawing stupid assumptions from the littlest things I say. Where did I ever say I thought I was too cool for this place, or even cooler than you? How am I "constantly trying to remind you" anything (apart from the fact you're a giant helm)?

PS
The game does look shit. If you would really pick a clunky, played out skating game over GTA IV then you lost like Nas.

So Kid P, tell me about the actual gameplay. What do you have to do in this game? Is it goal orientated?

TAL
08-12-2007, 11:57 PM
And does it have a Jake Brown mode?

Kid Presentable
08-13-2007, 01:13 AM
Funnily enough, that mega-ramp on which Jake Brown fucked himself up features in the game.

I believe it's goal orientated when you want it to be, and equal parts free-skating. I could assume from the photos and filming features (not only the hosting ones, but the in-game ones) that you'll be attempting to become 'The Man'.

In the original THPS, our flat used to watch the best replays all the time. It was sad the tricks were so limited back then. And in other Hawks games they've had photo-ops, but the game snaps them at ridiculous times.

Anyway, this game pretty much looks like skate-porn.

08-14-2007, 07:20 PM
All THPS games are fun but a bit unrealistic trick wise. If Skate makes it hard to do a simple ollie like - ^, >, <, circle, triangle,- that would be cool.

Kid Presentable
08-14-2007, 07:23 PM
It looks like an ollie, or flip tricks might be easy enough to pull off if you're concentrating. The initial steep learning curve would probably come from learning grinds. Flat bars, rails and shit you need to line up right, and time properly. There's no button combo, so I could see that being frustrating. That said, learning that will open up all the steez-related fun within.

I know I'm turning this thread into a one-man-band thing. I just want to say the demo is amazing, and any of you who mentioned you might check the game out definitely should. It murders the Hawks games.

I finally found a way to track my vids, here's something I slapped together to show the types of things you can put together regarding angles and speeds in the editing feature.

Sacre l'orange! That second gap is crazy. I'll tell you a great spot; up where Paul Rodriguez is standing. The steps there make a wicked gap, but the ledges on either side of the stairs are crazy fun. I'll try and up a clip later.

so far Kid P takes it. I'm all for style and some adherence to the boundaries of realism, and DJZ's gap was a bit much really.

I had a bit of a chat with some people on the XBox forums about unrealistic vids. I decided that I'm just glad it allows you to chase both ends of the spectrum, and if you want to do the realism thing or otherwise you can. Zaps gap is mad, but i hear what you're saying.

You wouldn't believe how hard I geeked out at the landing of that crooks-backside-tail on the flatbar. I shout and holler at some of the tricks on this game, cause they're hard to nail perfectly, and satisfying as all hell.

Hats off to the pricks, too. It's the best game I've probably ever played. Compelling and fun, but then I don't play as many games as I used to. Shit, you can even push mongo if that's your thing. If mongo pushing turns up in one of my runs, I re-do it.

I like to write slogans for myself on A4 paper and put them on the table in front of me. I was having a good time making up runs, so I wrote "I gots the runs!". Cue raised eyebrow from the woman.

Skate 2 is coming out sometime next year (apparently I was told this a while ago, but don't remember). I like the new "hall of meat" feature they put in. Since I wreck a lot. clicky (http://www.examiner.com/x-578-Video-Game-Examiner~y2008m10d16-Skate-2-Meat-mode-endorses-wiping-out-and-breaking-bones)

I can see it being a lot of fun. I'm also wondering what they are going to do to improve the game. Hopefully you can step off your board and it won't be as easy to get stuck in corners.

As much as I love the thumb controls, I hope that they make it slightly more accessible to the casual gamers. The majority of the skate videos online were people showing off wipe outs and clitches. I put the time in to actually learn it well but online is just full of cretins doing any old stupid shit.

Maybe it was a little too hardcore for the masses?

Planetary

i don't think it was, i think they pretty much nailed it. i enjoyed learning all the tricks and mastering them over time and bein well chuffed with landing simple stuff early on. now i enjoy being a master :)

making it easier would make it less fun, i don't really think this was supposed to appeal to the masses.

heres my skate reel, which i havnt uploaded anything to in ages but quite enjoy looking back on (y)

I like how this game is more grounded in a realistic gravity (somewhat) than the series Tony Hawk had. Looks like a game I'd buy for old memories and friends who are equally leveled with me. I play too many fighting games, thats why.
