Hope everything is OK.

THX for rubbing it in.

I just started a new job though and don't have the clout to be taking that much time off yet.

Balancing my "Beastie life" with "reality" is a real bummer sometimes

Speaking of Hammerstien...

Good show... tight. Opened with Remote Control ended with Sabotage.

Speaking of Sabotage, seen it live a million times since lollapalooza/quad tour days.

Last night Sabotage blew the roof off of Hammerstien. It was a quite a moment. It was a historical performance.

I have to say the absence of MMM was noticeable. While there has been a lot of speculation as to how much he actually does at these Gala events it was clear the answer is a lot. A bunch of songs just seemed a little thin to me- the were missing the added layers Mike throws in (especially noticeable during Gratitude) a bunch of intros were done acapella, which made for funny moments- Yauch was the only one (all three tried) who could get out "so fuck you my man", but it clearly was something they were not used to doing. I thought SWW really suffered, now I'm using that word with an explanation because it was still sick, but I liked the version I heard in Boston a lot better with Mike rocking the main riff on Ad-rocks tiny casio center stage, which left money mark free to go nuts- which last night he was not free to do and I definitely noticed it.

The energy was nuts last night, I don't know that it was the best version of Sabotage I've seen but perhaps it was the most nuts I've seen portions of the crowd go. I didn't think it was good actually- there was a real meathead energy in the crowd last night- that was mostly missing at both the park and the pool, weird I know! It could of had something to do with it being a Friday so it wasn't just hardcore fans at a Gala event as you would expect- but you got a lot of meatheads wanting to party. From my vantage point on the rail of the second Balcony there were several times when it looked dangerous to be on the floor. And I'm not just talking the normal pits that open up when the hardcore gets busted out- there seemed to be like ten people intent on hurting people. Totally fucked up.

Even up where I was there was a weird energy as only half the people were up on there feet dancing around for the whole show (as opposed to 100% at the Boston Gala). There was even a meathead next to me who tried to convince me I should sit down and stop dancing around because I kept dancing in front of him and partially obstructing his view. Way lame. It seemed to be a lot of people who didn't get it- the point is to go dance around and have a great ole time enjoying an amazing group of musicians play songs that kick ass. For me too many people didn't get it and that was a little lame for me. I think it was hard to top the insanity of how great the Brooklyn show was, so it was almost set up to be a bit of a let down, but definitely with MMM MIA status and the meathead factor made it good but not great show. Wow- this turned into a rant. I had a good time really! Plus I was dressed to impress y'all. I guess I just wanted the boys to go out hoter than the sun on the last stand of this 3 night NYC marathon. Expectations are a bitch, huh?

I thought it was a pretty solid set. I was most entertained by the people around me that didn't know that it was going to be an "all instrumental" set.

There were 4 fratguy meatheads sitting next to me, and each time they stopped playing, they were screaming for them to play Paul Revere.

Line of the night was when Meathead #2 shouted out "Put down the instruments and play some fucking music!"

Sorry for the grainyness of them. My little Canon Powershot S50 does horribly in low light and I didn't want to risk breaking my expensive cam.

I also have about 20 minutes of video. (About 20 minutes from each of the other NY shows too) so about an hour total. I'll get around to chopping it up for YouTube sometime this weekend or so.

ok, so i already posted my opus love letter (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=82272) to hammerstein but i'd like to toss in a few hilarious meathead moments here too:

- seriously my friend told me one dude (in white baseball hat!) was puking on & off, here & there, bits at a time, right by the stage. it splashed up on my friend's awesome vintage 3-piece suit which was, i must add, the talk of our section. luckily i was far enough to avoid this mess.

- pukey mcpukerton's buddy was "moshing" with his eyes closed right out of the gate. i found it too funny to be annoyed. he was like a weeble. i allowed him to fall onto me so he'd bounce away. later on in the night, of course . . . not as funny.

- girl behind me kept shouting for "paul revere" and i loved how adrock just deadpanned "we're not gonna play that tonight" and moved on. not even the banter, just a blunt NO. she continued to ask "why???" so sadly i almost wanted to explain things to her. or hit her. i'm a girl, i can say it :)

- WTF was up with the dudes giving the fingers??!! ouch. overall, i think lots of the meathead behavior boiled down to lack of information for those in the crowd who don't read the boards & newsletters:

take the built-in potential meathead factor,
add 2.5 unexpectedly dead hours for everyone to stand around and drink,
subtract clearly stated info on ticketmaster about what a gala event entails . . . you do the math!

personally i had a blast all through the wait because my friends & i were so stoked (and had recently waited 4 hours for prince in vegas) but still -- i feel like the wait upped the meathead factor bigtime, do people agree?

No Honky Rink, but there were some seniors occupying the Statler & Waldorf seats which was rather fitting given the venue.

I was sitting up near that section and I swear that I felt like jumping down during Sabotage. What a rush that was!

Yeah, the people screaming tracks off LTI and flicking off the band were kind of annoying. I got the impression that a lot of people didn't know what they were getting into.

I didn't dance around, but that's because I DONT dance around. It's not actually possible. Never gonna happen. I feel bad cause I'm pretty sure my lack of being dressed up and lack of dancing looked to other like i wasn't diggin it, but really, I just didn't have the money to dress up, and I don't dance. Ever. But yeah, I thought it was friggin schweet.

Anyone else here get annoyed by the NO SLEEP TILL!!!! NO SLEEP TILL!!! guy up in te mezz? I think a few people needed to get pushed over.

I'm still in a retardedly good mood about the whole thing though.

WHOAH. I can't believe I survived THAT! I was right in that shit! I had no idea the "pit" was so widespread, because it seemed like just a few penis-heads near us. Had I known it looked like that I would have been scared. One friend of mine got shoved around but her man protected her. Meanwhile three more of us clung to the rail & just ignored the buttholes behind us. We kept welcoming a lot of "sane" people to take shelter with us, I remember that. But it's not like we were scared -- More than anything I was focused on absorbing the last song & watching Money Mark execute a flawless combination backwards running jump into bellyflop right onto the keyboard.

I would like to hear a roadie's take on what he does to that machine.... would make a great short film, perhaps... but i digress...
