View Full Version : 50's CURTIS vs. Kanye's GRADUATION

Mr Films

so, I didn't think much of the fact that both these guys are dropping albums on the same day. But it really is kind of an event (in the loosest use of the term). Seeing as how you they kind of represent polar opposites of hip-hop.

I'm bias cuz I heart Kanye and never once have felt compelled to buy anything by 50. His stuff's catchy enough but always struck me as fluff.

Also, as I'm sure some of you heard.... 50 said this....

"Put it like this... Let's raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11, I'll no longer write music. I'll write music and work with my other artists, but I won't put out any more solo albums."

eeeeeeh?

This whole thing is hard to call. Seeing as how singles from either album aren't exactly lighting up radio. But this "beef" will probably only help them both.

One can only hope.

Did I miss something here? When did they start competing?

I think it's 50 that's competing; I haven't read anything about Kayne even involved.

Maybe 50 is just doing so 'cause both are released on the 11th...LOLz, yeah, a 9/11 on 50's career would be nice.

Remember what 50 said the reason for kanye's album sales was?

"I feel like Kanye West is successful because of me," he said. "After 50 Cent, [hip-hop fans] was looking for something non-confrontational, and they went after first thing that came along. That was Kanye West, and his record took off."

i'm totally going to buy and encourage the purchase of kanye's album in the hopes that 50 keeps his word this one time. 50=the death of hiphop.

If I hear that Kanye remix with Young Jeezy for "Can't Tell Me Nothing" I'm going to kill someone not so close to me. I'll still buy the album, but it's getting old.

If single performance is any indication then both of these albums are going to be underwhelming when considering past numbers.

A lot of people think 50 is about to fall off and I would agree. I think he's just playing this up to get his name back out there and try and increase his sales.

I'm surprised at 50's current singles. Usually his blow up quick. Kanye's, on the other hand, are never big before release. At least it seems that way. They tend to blow up after the album drops.

adam_f
08-13-2007, 04:48 AM
Yeah, I didn't think "Through the Wire" or "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" did that great on radio, but once the albums dropped, that's when "Jesus Walks" "All Falls Down" and "Gold Digger" all blew up.

I'm hoping this is Kanye's last school theme album and the next isn't called "3 Credits Short" It's getting kinda old.

His strategy seems good enough, get as many singles out there as possible to get people heaing new music but the songs haven't been making any kind of penetration with the public.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see what his sales are.

But it's smarter to space out your singles so you can pull new fans each time. Otherwise the album will have a very short shelf life.

Anyway, I agree this is a publicity stunt to sell more records, not that I mind.

Is that really the official cover for Kanye's record though? I mean it's pretty convenient that it would be animated, considering any schmoe on photoshop could make something like that.

Plus there was another one on the net that was rumored to be his cover before this one. And that one was animated as well. Here it is. (http://assets3.pitchforkmedia.com/images/image/34907.x-news-kanyegradcover.jpg) Iunno, I just imagine him being on the cover, maybe with the bear suit.

I totally agree with that but 50's singles have all basically flopped so far. If it doesn't blow up they must be thinking "well, we'll just try another."

"Stronger" is currently #6 on the Pop charts and #9 on the rap charts.

"AYO Technology" is currently #2O on the rap charts and #1O2 on the Pop but it is expected to blow up thanx to the "help" of Justin Timberlake and Timbo. It is quite an achievement 4 Kanye to have a hit with "Stronger" given its unique sample/production and song structure...lacking a notable hook. It should be a good battle, if neither has their LPs pushback.

g-mile7
08-13-2007, 07:12 PM
Wow, "Stronger" debut at #47 on the Pop Charts and shot up to #6 in only its 2nd week.

Jay-Z should have did "AYO Technology" IMO...5O's attempt at the same flow that Jigga did 4 "Nigga What, Nigga Who?" is less then stellar. I like the beat though and JT sings that white girl shit (as in they love him) 5O needs to have a hit, no matter the whackness he is dripping over the track.

Jitters

At this rate he'll put ever song on the album out as a single before it's even released.

Serious but he isnt used to havin his singles flop...even "Disco Inferno" did well

Str8 2 the Bank-#32pop/#1O on Rap
Amusment Park-#121pop/#17Rap
I Get Money-#119 pop/#18rap

also another single "Follow My Lead" fet Robin Thicke was leaked, as well as the video too.

that was from the vmas a few days ago. he said he'll never do anythign for mtv again, which is funny, cuz i would have never done shit with them ever.... and i think he was serious, cuz on tuesday 50 cent was on TRL and from what i read Kanye was supposed to be on it, but i watched it to see mumbledick try to outsmart kanye but kanye never showed. kanye>50, but anything>50, so its not really a competition. 50 got really pissy on TRL too, he was like 'i was putting out albums way before kanye was'

50 first album-03, kanye's....04, damn 50 is a dumbass. anywhoo, i haven't heard more than 50's single, which i wish i hadn't, and i have graduation.... from a standpoint of im a human, this sounds better... kanye ftw. also... on trl 50 bought a TON of his own cds to hand out to everyone. and tried to go back on his word abotu retiring saying he wont PROMOTE his next album he makes, but one is already gonna come out and he WILL promote that one. either way, hes a bitch, kanye crys alot, but atleast has great music....

beats Kanyes. He doesnt completely ruin the beat but he doesnt do it the justice it deserves because thats easily one of the best beats he has ever done.

like the transition from intro to drums kick in to "flashing....lights lights lights" it really builds it up for him to come correct and then you get "SHE DONT BELIEVE IN SHOOTING STARS...", and while it doesnt ruin the song it doesnt sound nearly as good as it should. Even that bootleg ass remix with the Clipse acapella over it sounds smoother.

Kanye would be better off going the Pete Rock route and just producing and having the rhymes handled by guests.

I dont know he did a pretty damn good job. I enjoyed the story telling, the lil punchline at the end of each verse and his delievery in the mid section is great. Also he only does two verses to let the beat shine. He is a producer too, I think that was the plan. I enjoy Ye's rapping but I guess he isnt cool enough to earn tha respect as a good rapper. Im sure every mixtape will feature this beat being rapped on and it wont be the same.

5Os flow is just the style U like but that delivery isnt smooth.

actually he gets a lot of respect (from me anyway) for acknowledging he had a suburban upper class lifestyle. He doesn't earn my respect as a good rapper because...hes not a good rapper.

yes, artistically. If Kanye did something like Prince Paul for example and just did a whole album with one rapper...yeah, itd be much better than any of his solo shit. Hes not that good at the raps.

Kanyes albums remind me of Jaylib. I listen and go "okay the beats rule but why didnt they get someone good to rhyme on them??"

what?! madlib ain't good?

fuck i wouldn't know cuz the beats overshadow the lyrics haha

Jaylib.

Champion Sound was a good album but some of the rhyming was really bad

I agree as a "rapper" he isnt top but his overal flow and lyrics arent any worst. I only think there are a few mainstream/known rappers better(Clipse) and even then they might not be a skilled enough writer 2 get the vibe right like Ye(except maybe Blueprint era Jay or Black On Both Sides Mos). Ye rapped more spoken word then rapper on the song which I think fits. The bars get gradually better as the song progresses. By today standards he is more then a good rapper. Each their own

As a writer, let alone person who tries to be a rapper I guess I can respect Ye flow. Theres so much garbage being hyped up...Ye rapping isnt that bad. But its all good I could see reasons U dont think make him an unimpressive rapper.
