I loved it there. Granted, I didn't do anything but walk around and look at stuff cause I didn't have any cash. I STILL loved it. I had the best goddamn falafel of my life. And the best goddamn grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. I'm pretty sure if I'd eaten anything else there, it, too, would have been the best goddamn one of those food-things.

Everything is either genuinely very pretty, or else kinda cruddy looking, but still awesome, and so I thought it was pretty anyway. I don't really know exactly how to explain why it was so awesome, but yeah. I just wanted to say it's awesome. Turns out I <3 NY. I didn't get a shirt to that effect, though. Didn't want to look too touristy. Things up there can be a little intimidating/confusing though. I ate at a very crowded diner which I never really determined if it was intended to be self-seating or if a server seated you. People stood in the door and waited for the waitress to tell them where to sit, but I think that's mostly cause there were no empty tables. Then I couldn't decide if I was supposed to tip or not. I did, just to be on the safe side. I'm pretty sure the guy that was waiting in the door till I finished eating that snagged the table as soon as I got up also snagged my two dollars. And I don't entirely understand how going on the subway works, so I just walked places.

Central park is pretty cool. I never did find the Balto statue though :(

i thought the dumpy bits were cute. like a puppy... with mange, and you're like "aww, i want to give him cuddles!" but then you don't, cause that motherfucker's got mange and nobody wants to touch a mangey puppy.

nah but i liked it. grossness and all.

I hate no real interest to go to NYC. I am from a small town and do not really care for big cities. I was in Chi-town the weekend for HIN nigh shift. The traffic was alright on the way in but we had a horrible time on the way out.(had to got back after a friend forgot to give somebody there keys back and got lost) I hate the ghetto and all the fucking racist. Why was I born white! haha

i have no idea what you're talking about

i unwittingly wandered into harlem. there was some kind of outdoor church function type thing going on with a man with a megaphone saying how god gave him the strength to stop doing drugs. i felt a bit out of place. it appeared to simultaneously be a yard sale, and there was food being served. it was awkward.

about a month ago i got on the subway, and there was this woman on the train, preaching. i couldn't tell exactly what it was she was preaching about, she had a pretty thick jamaican accent. it was definitely something about god. she kept saying "do something constructive, stop putting hits on each other, stop doing the voodoo" and there was something about judgment day up in there too. i figured "oh this is cool, it's a crazy preacher lady who's going to be doing this for the entire train ride" but then at around roxbury crossing she just stops and gets off the train. so it's like, she's just commuting and you know, while i'm here...might as well spread the word

and then about two weeks ago, i saw her again! she got on at my stop. i watched her come through the door and i was like "hey she looks familiar", and sure enough, she goes over to an empty spot on the train, drops her bags, and starts preaching again. only this time she was still doing it when i got off, i dunno, i guess she was going somewhere else that day.

i asked my friend who's lived in the neighborhood for many more years than i have about her, and she's never seen her. and i've seen her twice in a month! i'm a lucky devil

well that may not have been an exact quote

come to think of it i'm pretty much surrounded by the dumpy parts of boston everywhere i go. i live more or less across the street from section 8 housing (haven't had any reason to be bothered by it yet though), and there's literally a wrong side of the tracks in the area where i go to school. it's like, there's my campus, which is nice, then there's a train station, then you come out the other side and you're in the projects. a friend of mine got jumped at the station, and apparently someone got shot there not too long ago (didn't know anyone involved). the school's bordered by low income neighborhoods and it's doing everything it can to alienate them (http://fenwaynews.wordpress.com/2007/08/13/roxbury-neighbors-angry-at-northeastern/). i've yet to see it myself but apparently homeless people occasionally wander into the law school asking for legal advice.

my apartment's nice though

I think I've seen enough movies, TV, news coverage, and pictures to know that plenty of NYC is a dumb. =/
