I'm a little disappointed that Freaky Hijiki hasn't sparked discussion about hijiki around here. It took me almost a year to take the plunge but I tried some today. Good stuff (if you have less than 4.7g a day apparently due to the arsenic levels).

I thought it was a clever made up word that rhymed and sounded cool with "freaky"

So now you're in the mood to fix the side scrolling problem, right? Right? Please?

werent the Japanese upset with the title of this track, and the band had to defend their love for this seaweed in interviews?

When I spoke to them they said it came with their sushi everyday from a local take away and they never knew what it was. But they liked it. Can't see why Japenese peeps would be pissed off.

like this one (http://mic-to-mic.blogspot.com/2007/06/lunch-with-beastie-boys.html)

Mike D: A lot of kudos coming off of ''Freaky Hijiki!''
Ad-Rock: I talked to someone from Japan today who wanted to know what was up with ''Freaky Hijiki.'' Wanted to know if we were making fun of [hijiki].
MCA: I heard in some kind of British review, that it was a hippie thing, a hippie reference...there's nothing hippie about hijiki.
Mike D: Actually, in one of our sides today [pointing to something brown and stringy on his plate], is the freaky hijiki. It is a Japanese sea vegetable, yet here it's mixed up with tofu. So we renamed it ''freaky hijiki.''
MCA: There's nothing hippie about this —
Mike D: People been eating sea veg for a long time.
MCA: It's a Japanese staple.
Mike D: So I'm kind of concerned. Japanese people think we're making fun of sea vegetables? We love sea vegetables. Why would we make fun of them?
Ad-Rock: I said that we wouldn’t do [that]. Unless it was called ''freaky nato,'' then we'd have a problem.
MCA: Nato is freaky to being with.

i don't believe i've ever had hijiki, but only regular seaweed. :o

me <3's freaky hijiki though! A LOT!!! :D

Well I'll be damned... Hijiki is a real thing? Them Beastie Brothers, always kickin the k-nowledge. Here I thought it was jibberish. Or a blue drink served in a big glass.

Back foot, man. That's like drinking that cobra/rice wine shit. Arsenic? Is it meant for virility?
