I really enjoyed the gala...something different. It isn't like the guys played just instrumentals...it was just mostly them playing insturments the whole time...not much MMM.

I just went to both shows in Boston so I didn't have to choose!

I was on record as saying I didn't understand why the boys are even doing non-gala shows since that seems to be where there at musically right now and what they are really excited about doing- so thats where the magic is right now. I believe I said that right after seeing the boston Gala event at the Boston Opera house, which was sick. The venue was beautiful, the set and the boys were tight as hell and the vibe of the crowd was amazing- more people than not dressed to impress (it pains me to say this as a native new yorker but the ladies of boston was looking noice!). I had a few days before seen the Philly show, which was fun but blown out of the water (for me) by the boston gala(happy bday Yauch).

However then the NY shows happened and vibe at the park and especially in the pool were AMAZING. I totally had to rethink my absurd position. The boys were bringing enough of there new "gala" style mojo to the non-gala shows that it was just as awesome for me. And the Brooklyn show was the sickest show I've seen on this tour, so I've totally backed off my insistence that Gala's are the king of current shows.

(key lame music)
I guess I've learned something here today. If the Beastie Boys are playing a show near(ish) to you, and your lucky enough to have a ticket, well, shucks, you should just get ready for a mind-blowing funky experience that you will remember for the rest of your life. Because in the end a Beastie Boys show is going to be pretty fucking sweet no matter what, and thats one to grow on!

You can't go wrong at either. I think I appreciated the Gala show more b/c I've seen a non-Gala concert. I needed that first, straight B-Boys concert to get the fix that I was craving since 1985/6. That being said, the Gala was the sheeeeeeeeeet.

They come to Toronto on September 21st and play a show and then play a Gala on the 22nd and I'm going to both. I can't wait.
Does MMM even go to the Gala?

I'd say THE GALA EVENT, hands down!

Red Rocks was AMAZING for the fact that it was BEASTIES AT RED ROCKS.

THE GALA shined more than Red Rocks because:

A- It was intimate!! It felt like they were playing for YOU and your closest friends in your basement.....only with kick ass sound and instruments.

B- The Gala in Denver was a LONGER set than Red Rocks.

C- THE GALA EVENT felt Ten Times More Special than the regular show. SO MANY Dressed up. THE GALA was UNIQUE. People should definitely embrace the DRESS TO IMPRESS Theme. The Beasties want YOU to enjoy a Classy and UNIQUE CONCERT OUT. Why not GO BIG for a night. Wear regular shit to the next 1,000 shows you go to.

YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG AT EITHER CONCERT TYPE.
It's The Beastie Boys...................GOING BIG WHEREVER THEY ARE!
They just CONQUERED! Now, they're heading to Southern Cali.
For those in L.A. reading this, GET READY FOR WHAT IS ABOUT TO HIT YOU!

i recommend going to ALL possible shows. each one was unique. the Brooklyn show 3 blocks from my apt was SICK nothing like starting a show with HELLO BROOKLYN and ending with no sleep...

the gala was awesome, all instruments, full set of songs, and personally all pimped out. the festival show at virgin was off the hook and being front row at Central Park was NICE!!

go to as many as you can...

www.myspace.com/remi4979 for 2 shows worth of videos, i recorded the gala show but the video size is too large to upload online.

Both if you can.

If it's been a long ass time since you've seen a bboys show, go to the regular. If you see a lot of shows, go to the gala.

But, both if you can.
