I finally found a beat that fit perfect for this.....I've been wanting to do this forever but never found a beat that I liked and whenever I tried, it just never worked out.....I wrote just 4 little lines for a hook about BeastieMixes.com that I wanted to record and put in a mix a while ago...Anyway the beat that I found was made by Remedy Productions and throughout the track sporadically it says "remedy productions"(believe me, it doesn't ruin the mix, tho), but I liked it so much that I HAD to use it ....I'm waiting to hear back from them for the clean instrumental, if I'm aloud to use it for free....I mixed it with So Watcha Want because I only did one other So Watcha Want mix, which is NOT on BeastieMixes...Anyway, check it out....Let me know how it sounds..Thanks
I'm not that good with recording vocals so any tips would be cool...Effects, Volume, plug-ins for acid, anything? It sounds good on my headphones, but like crap on my desktop speakers...

HA..Thanks alot, Silence....Yeah, I tried writing rhymes before, but I'm not any good at it...Once I got a microphone, I tried doing it(bobaratt knows what I'm talking about:)), but gave up pretty fast....I started a song, but never finished it. I get into these phases every now and then...But who knows...
More goodness from The 'Cos. Great job, man. A much needed tribute. Salute! *clink!*(y)

I can't wait to get home to listen to "The Grasshopper Show"...I'm at work right now, working on a server, and it doesn't have a sound card.....Any beatboxing going on in there?...Nah, you know what, don't tell me, I want to be surprised...Later

OOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiitttttt bro!! That was fuckin SooooooooWWWWWWWWWWeeeeeeeeetttttttt!!!!!!! Your rhyme is gonna be runnin through my head for days on end now, i KNOW it!!! Your right - the audio watermark doesn't take away from it at all...it almost sounds intentional - they should do that shit off tempo, to fuck it up more.

Thanks, bro.....I know what you mean, I can't get this shit out of my head either....I guess they keep the watermark in there so you can get a realistic preview of what you will be buying...They have the mp3 available for free with the watermark, but, without it, it's like $40...Forget that shit..
$40??!?!? Shiiiiiiiit. Tell ya what. I'll personally hook you up some good ass shit for $30.... Let's step over here so...OH SHIT!!!.......*cops*GET ON THE GROUND!!! GET ON THE FUCKIN GROUND!!!!"......It's like a jungle, sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from goin under.:(

absolutely awesome cosmo! great sounds too! your vocal recording sounds great.
about vocal recording: get a good mic - if your soundcard does not have an XLR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XLR) input get a mic preamp (http://www.tweakheadz.com/catalog-mic-preamps1.htm)- popfilter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_filter) can be helpful - effects: compression (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_level_compression)
and de-esser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De-essing) are classics for vocals. reverb and delays sound great. distortion can sound good too. when you record the same vocals twice (on 2 different tracks) and then pan them to left/right you can get more "deepness" in your mix.
anyway........awesome work.

oh and there are thousands of sampling cd-roms available in all different formats with all the classic old school beats and new beats and single drum sounds.......you can get 100 beats for 50 bucks.
this side (http://www.bestservice.de/group.asp/en/drums_loops/933818a83p228p183p94) is just an example. the cd-roms are mostly available from music stores who are selling samplers and synths.....
though....yes.....make your own beats!

I'm not that good with recording vocals so any tips would be cool...Effects, Volume, plug-ins for acid, anything? It sounds good on my headphones, but like crap on my desktop speakers...
First - if you don't already have one, get a decent condenser mic. And ditch the desktop speakers - they aren't made for production work. Also, get a pair of good headphones. I use some Sennheiser HD600's but you should be able to pick up some decent AKG or BeyerDynamic (or even Grado) headphones on Ebay quite cheap. Be aware that headphones can give a false sense of spatiality and eq levels. I do most work on headphones then revert to monitors for final mix downs. I use my PC soundcard linked to a Marantz PM6010 OSE amp, bi-wired to a pair of Spirit Absolute 2 monitors. Best to use either an amp with NO TONE CONTROLS, or an amp that lets you bypass the bass and treble controls ("source direct"). You could also just get a Hi-Fi power amp too but you'd have to use the computers volume to adjust as these rarely have anything on them except a power switch.
You don't really need FX on vocals, just a bit of reverb normally suffices. The main thing is the EQ. Try Izotope Ozone 3 plugin and select the "vocal master with exciter" or "master EQ with vocal exciter" preset. ( I have it if you might like to *ahem* try it!)
Feel the force Adam....

Holy Shit...Thanks for all the helpful info guys...I really appreciate it.....Yeah, i'm only using this Plantronics microphone plugged into the mic jack in the back of my pc that i got from ebay a few months ago from for like 30 bucks...I definitely don't have those jacks that you mentioned Mr. Driver in the back of my soundcard, but usefull info nonetheless. I didn't know about panning left or right either..Nice...The only effect that I used was a little reverb from acid.....But I really do want to get a better microphone, they have to have good usb microphones for productions, no? And better speakers, also...These are ok for listening, but like Darrell said, not for production.....I don't know if i really want to buy extra equipment, at the moment, but if i ever decide to get serious about it, i guess i'm gonna have to...Anything could happen in the future....
Also, I read somewhere that it's better to record vocals in mono...Is this true, or did I read false information?...Anyway, Darrell, can you please hit me up about the Izotope Ozone 3 plugin. I'm curious to see what it is...Thanks again guys for all your help....
