Contrary to pervious reports on from this tour MCA was lovin his all-star status at Red Rocks tonite (read as: he wasn't grumpy). After all how could a mountain man like MCA not catch the Rocky Mountain HIGH!
Mike D decreed Mix Master Mike the mastication king and Ad Rock talked about his own masturbation!
But the best was how live MCA was, he jumped in the front row, he dedicated a song to some kid he met in the airport from NC and all around he was my highlight of the night.

CO you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy shit! That was probably the one of the best shows I have ever been to. I was at the '04 show too and they didn't have near the energy that went down last night. Pretty cool that they didn't stick to just the radio stuff. I have to agree with MCA getting down. Every time that guy opened his mouth he lit up the place. I think the crowd interaction made the night. God bless the B-Boys!!!!!

Awww gotta love MCA. I think people just mistake his laid back/coolness for grumpiness/boredom. Then once he gets in a goofy mood people are like "oh he's being outgoing and coming out of his shell now" when really he's just been himself all along, just a different mood. Or maybe I'm over analyzing, it's just that alot of people do that with me. Anyway, awesome. (y)

Hahaha, that's nice. Hmmm I wonder what his techniques are. Yeah you all knew that was coming...haha coming. Ok I'll stop. :p

The Beastie Boys show at Red Rocks tonight was easily the worst Beastie Boys show I've ever seen.

Wham! Bam! Thank you, fans! Never before have I seen the band rush through their performance as they did at Red Rocks. Instead of performing the songs with precision and pizzazz, the band zipped through each song. The song performances seemed like tasks for them to complete within a certain time limit. It would have been better if they had performed fewer songs than rush through the setlist in order to meet the venue's curfew.

When the band were not playing instruments, they favored standing at the very edge of the stage, like they do when playing at a small club. Because the seating at the venue is extremely pitched, only the first 15 rows of the audience could see them well. (Imagine sitting on the top of a ski hill and looking down at the base of the hill over many people.) Adam Horovitz, in particular, was "invisible" to most of the audience throughout the show. At one point, Adam Yauch jumped off the stage and into the audience. Nobody could see what he was doing. When he got back on stage, he said he wanted to see what the mobile (the lights/video monitors) looked like from the audience's perspective.

Who were they talking to? When the band addressed the audience, they directed their comments to specific individuals, alienating the audience. In general, they didn't involve and engage the audience in their performance like they normally do. What little Beastie Boys banter the audience was treated to was not goofy dumb; it was just dumb. Nobody was laughing.

The setlist was unimaginative. It had many of the songs that the band performed the last time they were at the venue. Normally, Mr. Setlist Man tries to ensure that the audience gets a little something different when the band return to a venue, but all he gave them was "No Sleep Til Brooklyn." (I'm discounting the hardcore and instrumentals.) The group of people sitting a few rows behind me chanting "Egg Man" had it right.

What happened to those guys who used to bust out a fun song like "Egg Man" or "High Plains Drifter" every once in a while and make an audience so happy?

The Red Rocks audience was enthusiastic despite the show lacking charm. People seemed to be enjoying themselves. (It might have been the beer.) Signs posted outside the venue discouraging crowdsurfing, as well as the bleacher seating, kept people from acting stupid. The worst audience offenses were people trying to stand in areas that their ticket did not allow them to -- but that always happens at that venue.

Before anyone attributes my negative review to my mood and circumstances, let me say that I was in a very good mood, had a great seat, sat next to great friends, and didn't get hurt (now a constant concern of mine, unfortunately). I was completely ready to be entertained and enjoy the show. I was disappointed because I know what a good show is like.

I can't remember the last time this loony thought a show was good.

Ps actually, it might have something to do with the band not paying them any attention for all their wasted effort.

I wouldn't be that harsh; they're just misguided. The author's time would be better spent on a band community that needs to be drained of its joy and commandeered.

Pshabi is right! That's a wack review, Hot Sauce, if you are scared of getting hurt at a show, please don't go. Assgined seats are for middle school not Red Rocks, and as far as songs being rushed that just doesn't make any since, I didn't hear the Beastie's voice's go chimpmonk stlye fast, so what are asking for them to play sloooower? As far as Red Rocks having a curfur you were mis-informed, I live here and have seen many Red Rocks shows go past 11 pm!
If it helps maybe you should take a break from Beasties shows for a while, at least until your jadedness wears off. You sound more like a newspaper critic that never liked the Beastie Boys then a true fan that goes to great lenghts to follow them from city to city.
What it's a problem to drink beer now too?

It's fairly common knowledge. It's become a common "strategy" for people trying become journalists to start a blog and submit it to magazines or newspapers they wish to get their articles in.

It's been my theory about her for a while.
She started that blog with the intent of getting a personal interview, press pass, or some other type of special, preferential treatment to get closer to the band.

Start blog> Get job as "journalist" covering the Beasties> Get press pass, a personal interview, or a gig following their tour covering them for a magazine like RS.

The writing just isn't all that good IMO.

The thing that's sad to me is that there are some very young & impressionable people that are being used for her phanatical endeavors.
As the parent of a teenaged daughter, I'd be very pissed to find out my kid was being used by a creepy 45yo. woman on the internet.

To clarify Red Rocks shows do have a curfew if the show is all ages. SInce it is owned by the City and County of Denver. However the show did end when it was scheduled to end at 10:45. I work there.

The truth is that you all read that website everyday before you read this one, and you're secretly disappointed when there's no show review there, because then you're stuck with the ones from other fans who say "Adrock was funny," "they played gratitude!," and "it was awesome." I like most of you and I'm amused to see you making gossipy asides like old hens. As I've said over and over, it's the teenage girls on this board who truly have their shit together.

Alli, thanks for the scoop. I used to try to avoid our local all ages show for that reason. Lately I started going to some all ages show though, because I'm old and I get tired and sometimes I don't want to see a band take the stage at 10:30 on a work night. :p

Yes, people really check her blog for news before coming here, the official Beastie Boys website, EVERYDAY.
Are you serious? You say that like you're implying that her blog somehow has more credibility than the bands official website.
Please tell me I'm misunderstanding you somehow because that's kinda hilarous. The only way she goes to every show she goes to, is because of the pre-sale passwords she gets from this site.
I look at her website, I admit that. I don't see how that implies I think it's a credible source for info though. Her "reviews" aren't that much more in depth than the ones you describe. And I fail to see how "I didn't enjoy this show because the crowd was too rough for me" is relevant at all. A credible story wouldn't involve personal feelings about the fans rowdiness. Nobody cares about what kind of time she had. They want to know what the show was like, PERIOD.
Oh, and while we're on the subject of credibility, how can you take that blog seriously when she won't allow any comments to be posted of opinions that are different than hers.
It's practically propaganda.

As I've said over and over, it's the teenage girls on this board who truly have their shit together.

Yes, they do.
It's the older girls who should know better, that are the ones you need to look out for apparently. I have to wonder why someone of her age would befriend someone so young on the internet. I understand having someone young and impressionable admire you can easily go to your head, and having the grown adults give compliments in return must be even more of a head fuck for the teen.

What if it were a 45yo. man who was befriending a teenaged girl on here and reporting his every move to her while HE was following the tour. Would anyone be concerned then? I bet there would be. How about a 45yo. woman and a teenaged boy, any difference? Not in my book.
Someone her age should not be as friendly as she is with teenagers on the internet. It's just wrong.

I still want to know how a person that age has the free time to follow a band around the world and chat with teenagers on the internet?
There's got to be more worthwhile things she should be doing.

Of course it's not "credible." It's not a newspaper, it's a blog. It's her opinion. If KP and all of you are feeling "drained of joy" then stop reading it. And for god's sake, quit citing it and quoting it. Why publicize something you detest? I don't know why you would allow anyone to drain your joy because they're doing something on their own on another website someplace.

As for the rest of the personal attacks, it's gotten way out of line. How do you call another human being a "thing"? We've got a real mob mentality now, where people feel comfortable to be mean because they know it's acceptable to the rest of the mob. And it sure has made for some interesting combos. People who appeared to hate each other are now best buddies -- united in their hatred of a stranger. It's a bit sick really, but completely human. You should all have a convention -- perhaps in San Francisco.

(I have to go now, but to clarify: when I mentioned teenaged girls having their shit together, I meant that they don't bicker on this board as you might expect. It's the older folks who tend to do that. That's all I meant. For what it's worth, the underage people I've run into at concerts were clearly accompanied by a mom.)

It's a beastie boys discussion board. Reviews from all sorts of media are discussed here all the time. If she posts it for the "world" to see, what's wrong with disucssing it?

Name calling and personal insults are over the line. I don't participate in that.

That said, Hot Sauce (Miramanee) and I are supposedly "cool." I posted on the blog something along the lines of, "Maybe you've seen too many shows this tour. All of the other accounts of the show are positive."

Next thing I know, comments are disabled on that entry.

I understand it's a personal blog and that she has EVERY RIGHT to edit/delete/chop any content she wishes. But, I'm put off by the fact that any point of view that isn't right in line with the editor gets erased. It wasn't mean or malicious, it was a difference of opinion. I've been a huge supporter of that blog, defended it, linked people to it, etc.

I don't get it and I would love a personal explanation from HS but I'm not holding out for it.

Yeah I get that. I guess It would just be nice to skip all the negativity. If you aren't happy with her blog maybe try to solve it out of this message board. It would be one thing if this thread was about the subject but it seems it always happens that in some other unrealated topic her blog is brought up then it's just flame flame flame.

I guess I am just saying can we just skip it? The negativity ruins all the fun =)

edit: I'm not defending anyone or anything. It just crappy to come here and read people bitch about that blog and editor. A positive thread has now gone downhill. Red Rocks is a beautiful venue and I had alot of fun =)

I've always admired the effort; but the negatitvity in her reviews and mentioning that she knows a 'real' show are kind of grandiose statements. I wouldn't look at it if I wasn't hoping for something good. M was on the money during the pageant, but over time she's just seemed more and more bitter.

I'll never quote her page again. I'm not here to be part of a mob. My only problem comes from people holding themselves above the rest of the fan community. That's what drains me of joy; the self-importance. But I guess that's my problem to deal with.

There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with an opinion -- how many times have we hated on NY Times critics and the like? Lambast the opinion all you want -- in some ways that's a sign of respect because you take the time.

But wow . . . it's those personal attacks on her age, gender and appearance that are just way out there. Robmoney you implied she's a child molester! Dude! You need to chill. What are you 17? There really needs to be a way to just drop all of this. I feel horrible, and we should all just move on. Yeah I don't like a lot of the things that are going on, but we should all just be able to leave it. It's sad that I can't leave it alone. I can wear that one.

When I say loony I only mean it's crazy to me that one can't enjoy a B-Boys show. In terms of Pshabi's point, it is respectfully clear that a person can see too many shows. The rest of the insulting stuff I post, I guess I can't explain away.

I never had any problems until the Portland thing. Then I knew I wasn't down with the way of thinking in question, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. This band is more of a fun thing for me. And I don't see that in some other perspectives, and it bugs me because it makes the band look corny. My problem.

OK, I shouldn't have gotten involved, but now I feel I should respond. Hate to contribute to messing up a thread with such a positive start.

Robmoney, I'm sorry I offended but I hope you can perceive the irony: I was pretending to speak as if I too were a "teenage-stalker," to highlight the ridiculousness of the situation!! That's what I was doing when called you 17, real age & parental status aside. The irony was indicated by the :p face. Had I been speaking as myself I would have used the correct we "older girls," not us older girls. So please don't go dissing my reading & grammar skills.

No, you didn't outright call anyone a child molester. That said, I do stand by my reaction to the pretty sinister implications in this particular quote: It's the older girls who should know better, that are the ones you need to look out for apparently. I have to wonder why someone of her age would befriend someone so young on the internet. I understand having someone young and impressionable admire you can easily go to your head, and having the grown adults give compliments in return must be even more of a head fuck for the teen.

That quote is really all I was referring to when I said "attacks on her age and gender" (I've heard appearance digs in other threads, not this one). The quote bugs me so much because it seems to imply that young women can't think for themselves, that grown women should stay home & offline, and and that any collaboration between the two must be sick & suspect. It's just a blog!!

One more thing for the record -- I have no problem at all with calling a critic a "loon" or sayng they've seen too many shows -- critics put themselves out there to take that kind of thing! That's not the kind of thing I was talking about.

Onwards, I hope. Didn't want to get messy & I can't believe how deep this got. Sigh...

Pshabi said she's seen too many shows.
Well maybe we've all been posting on this MB for too long. We've all been reading one anothers posts and stories for so long it's inevitable that this "community" becomes a little incestious at some point. Thus, the mob mentality.

It's very easy to become addicted to seeing the BBoys in concert. I know if I had the ways and means to see more shows I would. I'd like to think I wouldn't get to the level of addiction that she has allowed herself to reach though, but I am a huge fan of this band so anything's possible I guess.
It only adds to the rush when you begin to gain your own level of celebrity from your fellow MB'ers that begin to recognize you at shows and you begin to make friendships because of this addiction. She's just filling a void.
I know this because I have the same addiction myself, but just not nearly on the same level.

But I don't think it's right to assume just because one likes the new album they are only liking it because they like the band. Honestly I like the instrumental stuff in it's own right. I really enjoyed the gala show more than the Red Rocks one. I can admit though it's not for everyone. However my sister who is just a casual 'I only know hits' fan LOVED the gala show and the instrumental songs. So let's not judge everyone based on your opinion. I find with the Beasties they have a lot of different kinds of music. Some only love the hip hop tracks or some really love their hardcore tracks or some love their offbeat experimental type of stuff. I can honestly say I'm not so much a fan of the hardcore stuff. To each their own.

Sorry, Alli. I wasn't meaning to criticize people who like the new album or to say that they don't have taste. Thanks for pointing that out because I can see that it looks that way. People who have terrific taste in music love that new album. My comments were probably misplaced in this thread. I was trying to say that we don't all have to agree in order to get along, but it's not what I actually said.

I have enjoyed almost every show I've seen. I love that the band keeps it fresh and keeps trying new things. I always keep in mind that it could be someone's first Beasties concert and he could think it was the best show he saw all year even if it's not my all time favorite show. Some of us are sick of Intergalactic, but if I took my friend to see Beasties and they didn't do it she would feel cheated.

I don't want to see the same show over and over but I want my favorite bits. It's the age-old dilemna -- if you love chocolate cake, do you want to eat it everyday, or would you like a nice lemon tart this time?

I'm glad we've had the mix of both shows. At the big show, you get the crowd energy and the weave and all that, but you either stand up front and get crushed or you stand in back and have to hear fellow crowd members talking. Then at the gala you get to stand right next to the band without getting crushed and you can hear every word they say, but you hear more songs that you might not be as excited to hear and some that you love. (I personally have not been dying to hear Mark on the Bus but I'm happy for those who have been.)

The important thing is that a Beasties show is always worth the money and time. If you measure the Beasties against other bands' live shows, there are only a couple of bands in the same category.

(P.S. I'm talking way to much about this because I'm trying to decide whether to see a gala on the US tour -- do I want the lemon tart if I have to drive 8 hours for it? :p)

Can someone answer a couple questions for me? I'm trying to piece a few comments together but can't seem to get it...
Is Hot Sauce (Miramanee) is a teenager?
If so how the hell does she afford to go to all those shows??

I have been on the mic to mic and enjoy it.. I've just wondered how this all started and who is funding all of this?

1) No she's not a teenager.
2) she works really hard so she can afford all those shows.

Blogs are usually free. She's just a fanatic who wanted to share her experiences.

I'll give it to you, Doc, the older folks (30+) do tend to bicker and show their bitter old ages, but at the same time most of the teenage girls at this site are constantly talking about Adrock and Yauch like they are in some type of Boy Band...

so there are the fans that think that the band can do no wrong musically or artistically, but then there are the fans who only see the band as sex objects...

I can see how both get old quickly, if you are not in either of those circles

No problem. I guess I just felt like you were trying to call out anyone who liked the new album as just crazy fangirls/goys. Thank you for replying maturely. Not something you see on the internet very often. I may not agree with her review of the RR show either but reviews are just that, opinions. I met her at the Gala show and she seemed really nice. Hell if I could afford the time and money I'd go follow them too. Their shows are fun and entertaining unlike many artists. I think if you don't agree with someone there is no excuse to attack them personally. That's highschool and I'd like to think we can be above that. At least we can all agree the Beasties rock and are a respectable bunch.

We can all agree to disagree and play nice eh?

I started this thread and I offically restarting it!

If you use my post to argue please let your orginal vinyl copy of LTI get strached by your cat!!

MCA is awesome who doesn't love him =D He waved to the lowly cleaning folks(me and bf, I'm not dissing anyone lol) after the show. Props to Yauch and his awesomeness. I agree redirectioooon time. Poor guy though he seemed beat by the heat at Fillmore. Still though he smiled along with us! I feel for you guys in the middle if I was there I might have died. More ventilation puh- leeease.

This is what I've been wanting to know: Were the people in the first few rows really into the show? This is one of the few shows with seats up front, and I think the seats went to the highest bidders on Ticketmaster's auction site. Were the high rollers who paid more for their tickets big fans? Or were they sort of ho hum with the big fans starting a few rows back? (I had wondered how the seats down front would affect the band's energy -- apparently it caused Yauch to jump into the crowd -- he would never be able to jump into the crowd at a GA show. :p)

I was row 26 at RR so I have no idea about there haha. Fillmore was all GA so it was all big fans at the front. I think though row 3 was mostly guests of the Boys cause that's what a paper in the production office at Red Rocks said. row 1 is always Handicapped at RR.

I like m2m's review of the Denver gala. See?

I always figured they dropped the hardcore songs because it fuelled the meatheads.

I liked it too, but I am worried about Yauch's "chi" now.

I read the blog quite a bit because if you ignore all the increasingly whiny tone on a lot of the posts there's some good information in there.

However she seems to have a huge chip on her shoulder, does she expect to be treated like a VIP at each show or something? It's pretty creepy.

The latest entry is this:

Open letter to...

Dear Powers That Be,
I would like to attend the show tonight at the Greek Theatre with my two friends, Jennygirl and Paulb on the boards. We all have tickets, but they are not seated together. Not being at the show together last night sucked. We would appreciate it if you would leave three pit wristbands in an envelope at will call in Paul Bonardelli's name.

Thank you.
