the new Rolling Stone just came out and in the article 'bout the boys show in Philly says that their next album will be a "classic Hip Hop album" according to MCA (I believe it was MCA)

Very interesting! What exactly does a "classic hiphop album" sound like? Are we talking classic hiphop with no instruments? or are they talking about a CYH-type classic hiphop with some hard-core and instrument stuff?

Either way...that sounds great!!!

Unless they mean classical hip-hop. The phantom of hip-hopera type shit.

I'm at work right now so that's the best I can do for now as for an un-official report. I'm thinking like Rappers Delight/Triple Trouble type shit,
just a guess though.

the article also said that they will write lyrics first, before any beats or samples.

i think they should record a hardcore e.p. for one week in october..spend the rest making hip-hop, then release the hardcore e.p in november or spring 2008, then drop the new classic hip-hop record just before summer.

HOLY CRAP! i was totally ready for some more instruments, but this is fine by me!

the article also said that they will write lyrics first, before any beats or samples.

Ok, now this is good news. To see that they're focusing on lyrics like this is great. I'll admit that TT5B was not the Bboys best effort lyrically (very possibly worst), they seemed to rely on their goofiness too much. I know the boys are capable of more and it's good to hear that TT5B will not be their last rap effort.

I think the lyrics are cool on TT5B. Back to versus type shit. I like all the different rapping styles and lyrical progression throughout their career though. But, I mean, to me there's a lot of cool lines across Hello Nasty but a lot of it's doo doo to the extreme - at least on the hip hop cuts - lyrics like on RRNN are obviously in a different zone (serious minded) but stand up really well.

Don't get me wrong, I like the lyrics on TT5B. Its just that when they weren't trying to be funny it came out cornier than usual at times, and then often when they did do doo doo rhymes they weren't that funny. Hate to point a single boy out, but im mostly thinking of Ad-whammy.

BUT THIS NEW ALBUM WILL BE SWEET!

KRS-One would be a great fit for a feature with the 'Boys.

Its funny they're calling it a "classic" before anything has been written or recorded.

Classic Hip Hop Album = Country Mike II (four disc box set)

To be honest...I don't care what type of album they bring out. I was concerned before TMU came out being that it had no vocals, but as it turns out that was smokin...so whatever they do will no doubt be great (y)

I have the Rolling Stone article, and MCA wasn't quoted as saying anything. The article states that it will be a "classic rap album", implying that it wont be an instrumental album. Classic as in true to the genre, not classic as in "5 star classic."

Too far. They'll probably just wind up doing beats themselves; the collaboration talk was a joke. There's always collaboration talk, and it's usually baseless.

And LOL at people listing 'classic' albums.

This lyric is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. "What Choo talkin bout willis" is a funny reference, but there is no one named Phyllis in Diff'rent Strokes.... I just don't see the appeal of "Sloppiness" i guess. I can handle some sloppy rhymes, but there were a couple too many on TT5B for my taste....

Here is an unsupported purely speculative non-confrontational statement

I think that if the Beasties did another record with Rubin it would outsell everything they have ever done with the exception of LTI.

I think you're wrong, both on the Rubin tip and on sales meaning anything.

The thing that made albums like CYH, IC, and HN great was the fact that they weren't just hip-hop, or just instrumentals, or just anything. They were a collection of many different styles of music, which is a format I hope they go back to in some way.

"A Classic Hip Hop Album" sounds like TT5B part deux to me.

The sooner we all accept Mark Ronson will be behind it, the better. And he gets a good sound out of instruments anyways, so I wouldn't mind that.

I'm easy about what they do. What you mentioned would be great, but that's like the 'unbridled creativity' phase... I just don't think you can force things like that, the mix of styles etc. They'll do whatever they feel like doing no doubt, but personally I'd be inclined to hope they do something involving beats and sounds NOT made using computer programmes like Reason etc. Maybe a little more dense too. I like TT5B and the Mix Up, parts of both I love in fact, but they're obviously very different and arguably more simple than those crazy - in the best possilbe sense - 90's records. I guess albums like IC I just love everything about them, partly due to the reasons you say, and that's the difference. Either way, they've nothing left to prove, so I guess it's even more about having fun... As long as they hit the UK again, they can release anything. Fact is for me they haven't put out anything that I've not grooved too, so I'm pretty confident. But yeah after that rant, I hope they go back to that style too!

you never know what's gonna happen until and get into the studio and start

messing around with sounds. they might start to sample themselves or mess

around with instruments to make loops.

Can't stand the smugness of that guy and the fact he needs to tell us every five minutes where he lives and who he knows.

Typical Mark Ronson:

Me and Amy (Winehouse) were kicking it together in my New York Apartment when a person from New York came over and brought me some New York pizza. Then I listened to my New York radio show with some rapper from New York. I want to be a Part of it (New York, New York).
