I am the only one who thinks MMM is ruining all of the old songs? He changes the music to So whatcha want, Sure Shot, Shake your Rump, etc...... I know he is a great DJ but changing the music to these songs is like Led Zeppelin changing the music to Whole Lotta Love. It ruins the flow of the songs. At the Brooklyn show the whole groove of Shake your Rump was lost. BRING HURRICANE BACK DAMN IT!!!

It ruins the flow of the songs.

It makes the songs and show unique, different, not every show's the same. MMM brings a surprise element cus you don't know what he's gonna pull out or change it up with. I read in an article somewhere that the boys don't even know what he's going to do sometimes, and thats what they like.

If you want to hear the same old song & dance, kick & snare, same 1 beat crap go listen to top 40 and go to one of their shows. Or go to a 50 cent show, he'll play the crap right off the record and take your money.... The boys will give you an intro + play you songs off the record + a unique show + interludes + surprises = an all around fantastic show that makes you want to follow them to the next venue to see what the fuck they're gonna do next.... We'll at least me anyways :)

In the documentary "scratch" he says (if I remember correctly) he'll randomly throw in chicken noises and what not just to mess with them.

Haha last night at the Gala in denver he was doing all kinds of shit. He even played a cut that said "you're stupid" or something to that affect after Adrock was speaking. MMM is the shit =)

I can see both sides of the argument... yeah it's nice for a change sometimes, but I do feel like he messes up the flow of the songs a lot. Maybe if you tinkered with them just slightly less? I don't know. I have to admit *assumes defensive position* I'm not all that much of a fan of MMM's work a lot of the time. *runs and hides*

The Brooklyn live version of SYR was so good I nearly orgasmed. (well, maybe not- but it was definitely the best version of it I had ever heard). In fact it convinced me that I should be valuing the experience of hearing it live much more than I had.
I love the beat mixing MMM is doing- totally next level, when the new beat drops it just sick. Get with it son, thats the ill shit right there! holding on for hurricane to scratch a few times and do no beat juggling is like hoping that people will stop this email foolishness and go back to writing letters. Progress is progress son, get wit it already, will ya?

I have heard a couple times where he kinda dropped something that just didn't fit. So I somewhat agree, but generally he ads an amazing quality to their live sets. He's 100% improve (as are the boys most times, I heard a version of Shake Your Rump once, where they ended every rhyme with ''shrimp' just to make everyone laugh, it was awsome). To be honest, the face that mixmaster can play Timberland Beats and old jazz and blues shit while the beasties rap just blows my mind. I agree there are a few times when it just DOES NOT work, (I have one live recording where mid concert Adrock actually says "who mike, tone it down mike, like right in the middle of the concert and gets him to restart a song) but those times are rare, few and far between and lets face it thats the nature of improvisation and dare I say, its one of the biggest things missing in hip hop today. Spontaneous, Innovative.

I like they're "Hip Hop should be approached like a collage" technique.

I love that they try to make each song unique and original.
I'm looking forward to seeing them in Toronto at the ACC and seeing what bombs Mix Master drops on them!

Then I'm looking forward to seeing them again the next night as they play an all out instrumental set. It's a muthafuckin gala event bitches!

Manchester 2004. One of my favorite boots, and versions of SYR ever.

I just wanted to echo this statement. The bootleg from this show came on last night when I was sitting listening to my music on random and I was working away and just burst out laughing when I kept hearing shrimp. Then tonight, my pc doesnt seem to understand what "random" means, and the boot came on again.

Shrimp.

That is all

Sure Shoot
Root Down
Whatcha Want

I prefer them all strait up the way they were laid down...however I think Mike is doing exactly what the fellas want...at times I've seen Mike,Adam and Adam all look back at him when he switches it up and laugh or shake their heads with surprise...I think they probably love being kept on their toes at times...a mystery prize in every box...(y)

I think he adds to the exitement of the shows, there's a slight air of unpredictability. I don't think I could hear So What'Cha Want live now without the Fabulous beat, it's perfectly done. And the one's he switches up with different beats more frequently are usually quite fun. I like it when it occasionally thows the boys off...it all adds to the live show.

It's fair enough though, at first - I think I was 10/11 - I couldn't understand what the point was, particulary when watching the Glasgow show on MTV. I think it was worse because I didn't know all the songs, so it becamse kinda confusing. Even now, I wouldn't say no to an 'un-touched' Sure Shot or Flute Loop.
