Rage at the Metro (92'?)

$10. - Zach had most of the crowd burning dollar bills. It was magical.

The Beastie Boys on the Hello Nasty tour '98 was pretty fucking massive.

It was a stadium and was packed to the brim. And lame songs from TT5B didn't exist to lame up the setlist with their lameness.

Also, Beck last summer was a damn good show. All his shit sounds completely different live so it's like you're getting live remixes.

I'd like to say Rage in 1999 on the Battle of LA tour but it was a kinda bland show. Nothing was said, no surprises. They just came on, played and left. meh.

Beck is the one I have never seen and want to. There is always something else going on. I heard he does Electric Ave. live. : (

Is Swamp still his tour DJ?

Mr Films
08-19-2007, 01:50 AM
I actually don't recall him having a dj on that tour.

could be wrong though.

Last year was also the year he toured with puppets. And the puppets were made to do everything the band was doing. And they filmed that. So, on the big screen, you were technically watching the band's movements only done by puppets.

Also, they shot a short film earlier in the day with the puppets going around Austin. Made all the better by the fact that there is a restaurant there named "Guero's".

Queens at Metro City Jan or Feb 2004 just before Nick left. They played for aaaaages, and Nick smashed his bass and stormed off two songs from the end, only to be forced back on-stage to play 'No-one Knows'. Lanegan was there, so Auto-pilot/Fade/Deaf/Dead all had their full glory on. Just impeccably tight musicianship and a fucking great atmosphere.

Just yesterday. Public Enemy, Roots, Mos Def, Redman and the entire clan (ODB represented by his son, and Cappadonna was there) were amazing. It was some surreal shit. Monch, C. Hill(so much weed), Talib and EPMD were incredible too.

Changing things up a bit I loved Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on Randalls Island in the Bronx last summer. He's amazing and you know all the lyrics to all the songs, great time.

The Bboys

October 23, 2006 in Vegas (http://www.beastiemania.com/gigog/show.php?g=20061023)

- 2 days before my bday
- Karaoke before the show
- perfect level of drunkenness
- the start of "the suits"
- sick sick energy by the band, crowd, etc.
- unbelievable setlist

What did wu play?

Nothing from their new LP (which was promised in the promos leading to the show), but it was sick shit. RZA and GZA have such an aura about them, I dont know...they werent very energitic (compared to Method Man, Ghost and so forth) but when they got on the mic people went crazy.

Wu did(in a 50minute set since they took 10 extra minutes to prepare he stage for them):

In no order:

Bring the Ruckas
Clan in Da Front
Da Mystery of Chessboxin'
Wu Tang Clan aint nuthin to Fuck with
C.R.E.A.M
Method Man
Protect Yo Neck
Tearz
Shimmy Shimmy Ya
Ice Cream
Liquid Swords
Duel of the Iron Mic
4th Chamber (with Killah priest as well)
Fish
Reunited
Older Gods
Itz Yours
Truimph
One Blood
Da Rockwilder (with Redman)

then Method did a song (I dont know the name) with Street Life

Flava Flav was there on stage with them with some bright ass polo...taking pictures and video with his Iphone hahaha. The highlights were Method stage diving 5 times, the mosh pit I almost was pulled into during Wu-Tang Clan aint nuhtin to fuck with, Ghost saying they makin that "that nigga Barry Bonds money" before Cream (since we were in frisco), Meth telling the fans to tell ODB's son how much they loved his dad and seeing his boys face when he was doing Shimmy Shimmy Ya with all the Clan and everyone telling Mast Killa happy birthday...and of course the promise of a Clan LP by fall. It was incredible. Surpisingly, Cappadonna had the biggest chain on out of all the Wu (Ghost, with all his tlak, had no gold on at all).

i have 3 favorites i was at...

the msg show on dvd oct 9, 2004... lost my ipod that night on the L train back to brooklyn after passing out for 3 hrs on the train and waking up at the stop i got on

the gala show on 8/10/07, all pimped out, blunted and just chillin out after 3 other shows that week...

and the 10/4/2006 gimme shelter show at the maritime hotel for the aspca and no kill animal shelters in nyc... i skipped a "gift night" from my company that i never got back and it was all worth it...mmm cut it up,

i prefer the small venues but you cant beat the msg show, which i then went to the pre-release viewing of the movie at the 14th St. theatre where the boys showed up for a 15 min q/a session...off the hook, people need to stop asking retarded questions and pronouncing simple well known words incorrectly...shit.

I can't do a best ever -- I'm too old and I've seen too many shows. :p

In 2006, my best concert was one of the Radiohead shows I saw in a small theater. This year has started out slower, but there are a lot of good bands coming this fall!

I somehow never seem to see a truly great Beck concert. I keep hearing how great he is but his concerts always disappoint me. I think that his local fans suck. The concert I saw from the Guero tour had some really good bits but the venue was dreadful. We didn't get the puppets either.

Radiohead, sept.15th 2000, Goffertpark Nijmegen.

First time I ever saw Radiohead. I was 15 years old and went there on my own, to the other side of the country, just to see them.
They'd brought their own tent and little food stalls, It was like a mini-festival site.
Sigur Ros opened for them. Noone had heard of them and I thought they were pretty weird and a little boring. (I've altered my views now).
Then Radiohead came on. The opened with a bit from a dutch radioshow and it went into The National Anthem. Which noone had heard yet, because Kid A wasn't yet released.
The atmosphere, the beautiful lights that made Thom look like and angel, fantastic sound, feeling the wind through your hair and the experience of hearing the Kid A songs for the first time was just amazing.
I've seen them 2 times after that, but it was never quite as good as that first time.

Like documad I'm extremely old and seen millions (literally) of shows, but for some reason I state these gigs as the best I've seen (not in any order):
Echo and the Bunnymen London Kilburn National Ballroom (1986ish)
Echo and the Bunnymen Stockholm Konserthuset (1983)
Telescopes Stockholm Electric Garden (1988ish)
Radiohead Malmö Mejeriet (1995 or 6)
Beastie Boys Glasgow Barrowlands (1995)
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club London Underworld (2007)
U2 London West Hampstead Moonlight Club (1980)

and the ones I've always enjoyed live: the Hellacopters, Radiohead, BRMC, the Nomads, bauhaus, Babysitters, Captain Murphy, Foo Fighters,
Iggy Pop, the Ark....

Man, I saw PE in 92? 93? saw the show in Salem, Or then followed them to Seattle. Do they still have the S1W????

PS EPMD seemed to come out of nowhere...any info on labels, starts, etc always enjoyed their music but don't know the origin. I've been out of the loop for a little while.

Best part of seeing PE in Salem was when Flavor accidentally called Terminator X "Norm". Terminator X is much more intimiating than "Norm".

I love energy energy energy

sooo,

Fischerspooner. When I first saw their live show when it was still "live art" oriented at Coachella. I was blown away and had so much fun even though I was by myself!

Basement Jaxx at LA Weekly DETOUR last year I had a freakin BLAST at. Their energy is amazing. I danced my ass off.

Beastie Boys at MSG with Doug E. Fresh beat boxing was pretty awesome, too.

I'd be able to say Beastie Boys if I hadn't been shortchanged into seeing them at crappy festival gigs. And the 99 show had atrocious sound. The Mics droppped in and out all show.

I've only just come across this thread yesterday - some BBMB people have seen some great gigs! - this is my vague top 10 in no particular order -

1.Beasties - Reading Festival 98
2.Ramones - Brixton Academy London 96 (possibly their last ever London show - Feb 3rd 96? - can anyone clarify?)
3.Gangstarr - Forum London 94 (with surprise support from Pete Rock & CL Smooth)
4.KRS One - Shepherds Bush Empire London 05 (with Chief Rocker Busy B as his hype man and Rahzel)
5.Sick of It All - LA2 London 95 (my first real hardcore gig with support from H2O and CIV!)
6.House of Pain - Brixton Academy London 93 (the soul assassins tour with Cypress Hill and Funkdoobiest when Cypress Hill were still good and all the hip hop heads wanted them to headline)
7.Company Flow - Jazz Cafe Camden London 97
8.Arcade Fire - Brixton Academy London 07
9.The Roots - Forum London 97 (with Rahzel)
10.Beck - Shepherds Bush Empire London 06 (with the puppets and projectors thing)

The above choices try to reflect the size of the occasion, the mood of the crowd, the quality of the performance and of course my own experience - it's always a bit more thrilling the first time right?

Other honourable mentions include - Run DMC with JMJ in 98, seeing Big L with OC in 97, and the Alkaholiks in 97 (great performance and crowd control made for a really enjoyable show and atmosphere)
