BEASTIE BOYS: THE TWO-NIGHT STAND IN COLORADO
============================================

What is UP??!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is in the very early morning hours of Sunday as I write this.
(I've got a castle in the Mountains, that's where I dwell.)
I'm back UP in the mountains in my home now after having just experienced 48 Hours+ of NON-STOP Beasties Mania at both Red Rocks (8/16) and The Fillmore in Denver (8/17)!
This is going to be a scattered review of my experience, so follow along with a beer or joint if you'd like.

They came. They CONQUERED.

However......it goes a little deeper than that for me. Here is why.

8/16
========Beastie Boys DOMINATE at RED ROCKS
=======================================

I was rockin' Row 23 (out of 70) for the first show of The Beasties Double Header in My Home State of CO. The pre-show activities started at the intentionally wacky time choice of High Noon that day.

One of my best friends, JD, joined me for said Noon Hour and a great mexican restaurant shortly thereafter. The Mix-Up was the cd of choice during the day.

A couple errands later, we arrived in the upper lot at Red Rocks for Pre-Show Cocktails and Good Company........right around.....5pm or so.

Many others were already there. Music. Food. Carrying on. You know this drill by heart.

By 6pm, we had a CONNECT FOUR! The four others in our group (Angel, Dave, Kevin and Deana) had arrived.

We made our way into Red Rocks early, courtesy of a reservation I had made at The Ship Rock Grille, the restaurant/bar INSIDE Red Rocks.

We were seated. Drinks and food were served.

The Crowd at Red Rocks was Insanely Choice. Great vibes and Beasties Appreciation were wrapped all over Red Rocks like a Warm Blanket on a cold Sunday morning.

We get to our seats, already aware that Static is in full swing with the opening ceremonies onstage.

Colorado's Finest Bud could be smelled in any direction. The sun was setting quickly. The Main Event was about to GO DOWN!

3.....2.................1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GRATITUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! Fuck YA! How fitting! The crowd ERUPTED into cheers! From the opening chords, The Beasties DOMINATED like no other!

You may have seen the setlist for RED ROCKS by now.

I have to say BRASS MONKEY at Red Rocks was BEYOND AMAZING to me.

For the entire Beasties set, Red Rocks was as ALIVE as I've seen it all Summer Long! The stage looked amazing with their set up (MCA even commented on that 3/4 of the way through the show - he said something like, "I was told how great it looked here at Red Rocks, I had to come out into the crowd to see it for myself).

Oh. Shit!

B FOR MY NAME was FUCKING OUTSTANDING! The spinning disco ball (or whatever the hell it was) had Red Rocks GLOWING and SPINNING throughout the song. A site to behold, and easily one of my favorite moments of the night.

NO SLEEP 'TIL BROOKLYN was another easy Favorite! Granted, we're not in Brooklyn, but it fucking ignited and blew up as if we WERE there.

Beasties at RED ROCKS catapulted us into another galaxy!

When the show DID end, Dave and Angel headed back to their hotel for the night.

We (JD and I) retreated back into the mountains for more carrying on and reflection on the HISTORIC Show we had just witnessed. We eventually went to bed.

Little did I know, surprises would be around every corner the very next day!

NIGHT TWO IN COLORADO
==========================8/17
BEASTIE BOYS at THE FILLMORE (DENVER)
================================================

I clocked in 10 GLORIOUS HOURS of Sleep. Waking up around Noon, we get a phone call from Angel. She says.........

"Hey Guys. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN HERE! The Beasties are staying at OUR Hotel! And, not only that, we just got to personally meet each one of them (Well, Adam, Adam and Mike) in the lobby.

A Magical Moment (to say the very least) for my friends Angel and Dave. A photo op presented itself. The Kodak Moment occurs.

I dressed to impress with a Suit, Tie, Mohawk, etc.

To complete any great Pimp Ensemble, remember to Rock The Shades to complete your outfit. I did exactly that.

Dave and Angel meet up with JD and I at a steakhouse in Denver around 3pm. We had given up on deciding to spend the entire day in line for the front rail at the stage. We decided, "Fuck it! Wherever we are at the venue, THAT will be the right vibe for us."

Our 4-Course Meals (I went with the Prime Rib - sorry Beasties) were wonderful and over-the-top. It was almost 5pm. Time to head to THE GALA EVENT. Dave and Angel head back to the hotel to get ready.

JD and I were already Shining, so I arrive to The Fillmore and park only 1 block from the venue (The BEST spot I've ever gotten there - A good sign for what be occuring later).

We walk to the line at The Fillmore right around 5pm.

Then............my jaw drops in the best way possible. There were exactly ONLY TEN people in line. I saw a GA Bob Dylan show there last year. By noon last year, there were 200 people in line already for that one. This is my comparison and shock to see only 10 fingers worth of souls in line!

JD and I instantly are #'s 11 and 12 in line now.

We relaxed the ENTIRE DAY in the mountains AND had Dinner AND showed up what I considered to be VERY LATE to get in line. THEN? I realize........I realize....................
THE FRONT RAIL WILL BE OURS!
When they finally let in at 7pm, We rushed the floor and made our way up to the rail.
WELL HOLY SHIT MY FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
MISSION: ACCOMPLISHED!
What I left out just now: Dave and Angel called us from the hotel while were in line and said, "Yep. Just got to talk to the Beasties again for a short bit."
This time, though, Dave was sporting a TUXEDO COAT and PANTS. However, his shirt said, "I LOVE PIE!"
One of the Beasties saw that at the hotel and said, "OH! WE HAVE TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THAT!"
I would guess we'll see THAT exact photo put on this site by the Beasties themselves sometime down the road.

So, THE GALA EVENT DENVER!
People, OUR CROWD BLEW THE BEASTIES OUT OF THE BOX!
It was easily concluded that THIS DENVER CROWD was THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CROWD TO DATE for a GALA EVENT!
Everyone went BIG!!!!!!! I was SO IMPRESSED with EVERYONE who dressed up. If I'm taking a random guess, I'd say that 70-80% of the crowd went BIG with the DRESS TO IMPRESS Theme.
Anyways.
My entire group of friends occupied the front rail (five feet from the stage!).
I had Ad Rock about a foot to my right, MCA about 5 feet to my left, and Mike D (when he was on drums) directly in front of me.
FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many times during the show, having all three of them in front of me in such a small venue, I honestly thought they were playing ONLY FOR ME. That is how MIND BLOWING the experience was!
Okay.
SONG HIGHLIGHTS:
JIMMY JAMES
HEART ATTACK MAN
TIME FOR LIVIN'
Get this: They played even longer at THE GALA EVENT than they did at Red Rocks.
Mike D was practically raining bullets of sweat down onto me during the entire show.
MCA gave me a head nod early on, as if to say, "What's up?!!"
And, The KING AD ROCK was constantly feeding off of us on the front rail. We represented to the fullest up front, and it seemed to carry over throughout the entire venue.
Alongside giving Denver huge props for ooking the best to date in the states thus far, AD ROCK seemed constantly impressed with Denver, both at Red Rocks (technically MORRISON, CO) AND at The Gala Event in Denver.

Wearing my Suit with the polished shoes, I was soaked in sweat from head to toe less than 30 minutes into the Gala. I had room to breathe at the rail, so I know it must have been 5-10 degrees warmer if you were in the middle of the inferno known as The Fillmore.

In the home stretch of the show, Ad Rock had MCA and MIKE D sign a shoe with him. They proceeded to throw it to someone on the far left front side of the rail.

The Beastie Boys GALA in DENVER was Classy, Hardcore, Fun, Intimate, and, well, you get it.

THE GALA EVENT is now one of My Favorite Concerts of ALL TIME! Again, yes, it sounds cheesy as fuck, but it DID feel like they were playing just for those of us on the front rail.

Again, I'm sure the setlist for this one is already posted once or twice somewhere on this site.

We met an incredible couple from Salt Lake City (you know who you are) who were hanging hard on the right side of the rail with us.

We also met a champion couple from South Carolina.

When the amazing show ended, our group (and these two couples we just mentioned) took a group photo in front of the rail. Did I mention Angel took about 75 photos from the front rail?!?!??! She'll be sending those to me via email within the next few days. I'll post a few of the best ones (and there are MANY from I've seen).

TWO AMAZING NIGHTS.

We exit the Fillmore, still smiling at both the show we just saw AND the crowd that was dressed to the nines.

I offer to drive my friends back to their hotel. My buddy pays for valet and we make our way to the bar. We all hang out for about an hour before I decided it's time for me to get home (an hour drive away).

Come away me with me now......on a magical Beasties Carpet Ride!

So, I go down to the Valet to get my vehicle back. Four of my friends are hanging with me as I wait for my keys.

I look at my friends and say, "Well, well, well. My friends, it has been an absolutely amazing two nights together!!"

RIGHT AFTER I SAY THOSE VERY WORDS............................A VEHICLE COMES DRIVING DIRECTLY TOWARD US and stops right in front of us.

My friends.........................drum roll.........MCA (Mr. Adam Yauch) steps out right in front of us as I am handed the keys to my ride.

He recognizes Angel and exchanges a hello with her.

I decide to introduce myself to him and THANK him (and the fellas) for TWO MIND BLOWING NIGHTS.

He is very gracious and patient with us, as I know he is ready to get inside to eat the take out food he has two dishes deep in his hands.

I give, "Would it be possible for me to get a quick photo with you? If not, I completely understand."

He gives an enthusiastic, "Sure. That's fine."

So, MY KODAK MOMENT occurs with MCA.

I quickly thank him and step the fuck out of his way so that he can get back to his life.

My friends part the seas as well so that he can make a clean escape with no more hassle.

I go to Angel and say, "Please tell me that came out!"

I look at it. Oh Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I look at my friends and say,
"With that my friends, I will say GOODNIGHT!"

During my entire hour ride back to my house, I had a shit grin a mile wide.

TWO AMAZING NIGHTS with THE BEASTIE BOYS!
And, THE MAGICAL PHOTO WITH MCA as My Prized Memento that will be framed to mark the occasion!

Thank You Beastie Boys! You Guys are LEGENDS, and we're very thankful you spent two days with us in Colorado!

THE BEASTIE BOYS 2-NIGHT STAND IN COLORADO Gets an A+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an awesome experience. I too had the most wonderful 48hrs of my life with the Beasties this weekend!

The icing on my cake was that I got them to sign my action figures. Don't know if you remember, but they had a contest on their website about 6 yrs ago and they gave away the Bathing Ape action figures of themselves. Anyway, I was the winner!! I have been hoping to get these signed since the day I won them, and never thought it would come true. BUT IT DID!

So, Beasties, if you are reading this - THANK YOU for the most wonderful time a gal could ask for!! :-)

That is great to hear!

Our friend Angel just sent me about 15 very solid photos from the FRONT RAIL at The Fillmore.

I will post a few of those (and a couple of them with Mike D and Adam H in the hotel lobby) late on Monday.

Wow. The Overall Experience exceeded every possible expectation I had.

What up from the couple from Salt Lake City!!!!!
It was so nice meeting you guys and hanging on the rail with you!

BEST 2 NIGHTS OF MY LIFE! The Gala event was most definitely off the hook. But both shows for sure had their highlights. Holy Brass Monkey at Red Rocks! Intergalactic was Mix Master Mike at his ultimate. 3 MCs and one DJ too. And closing both shows with Sabotage - perfect. I could go on but... your recap pretty much says it all!

So awesome. I'll be emailing ya...
