High School Musical?

I can't go anywhere without seeing shit about the sequel to this thing, geeez. I can't help but wonder if it's something I would have liked if i was 12 right now, considering I was a drama geek and all that. Apparently it's crazy popular? I donno. It was filmed at my high school which is additionally weird. I wonder if one day they'll have like tours of the high school used for High School Musical.

Wow. Yeah it's been hyped and rushed to holy hell (the cash-in sequel) that we ended up watching it last night just for kicks. I can see why kids are ga-ga- over it and you'd be a complete moron to say that there wasn't a great deal of effort put in by everyone working on it. But still, guy in the pink hat (http://www.product-reviews.net/wp-content/userimages/2007/08/high_school_musical2.jpg) = uber-flamer and I think that will be a good halloween costume this year.

I feel dirty.

I remember seeing part of the first one and being weirded out by it being in my high school, like the strange sense of the drama room being my "territory" or something and seeing them use it. I wonder if the ugly mural I helped paint is in it anywhere.

My exposure to this is just seeing pictures in the paper and such, but on the bus ride this morning, it was on the front page of our
entertainment section, and I was grumbling --

Here's the deal. Doesn't the whole "token racial harmony" thing in advertising and TV and such get pretty old when you're still pushing all the
Caucasians (or "near-Caucasians") up front? I get really sick of seeing the enthusiastic black kid always leaping energetically, mugging
behind the three or four white stars of the show. He's so lucky to count them as friends.

I did think it was kind of cool, in one picture that I saw, that not only was the black guy dancing with a white girl, but they also had --
allllllmost near the front -- a kinda hefty girl dancing oh so close to the spotlight. Unfortunately, she seemed to be pretty much the
only one without a partner, but it still looked like progress if you squinted just right.
