Because when I'm in this forum and someone mentions a Beastie Boys album, like To the 5 Boroughs, I always wonder why people have such a hard on for it...but then I realize where I'm at.
Anyway, that album sucked and if you're not talking about Hello Nasty, you're not talking about anything that important anyway.

I cut flips for TT5B when it came out but over time I realized it wasn't up to par with their other stuff and now I'm not too fond of it.
Don't even get me started on the Mix-Up :(

^Yeah, WTF. We said we wanted instruments, but no vocals??? I think they overcompensated for tt5b which actually wasn't that bad.

TT5B had a sweet lead single, but that is it. my friend bought the LP for NZ$10 about a month after it came out. bargain bin yo. still, it had nice packaging.

License to Ill is a dated album that grows more tiresome the more you listen to it and the only reason people give a shit about Paul's Boutique is because it strayed away from rock and used 20 million dollars worth of samples that would never get cleared today.

The opening three songs aside, Hello Nasty was the least consistent of the albums, and it drew in the biggest bunch of lames. It's the worst album they've made. That's not necessarily meaning to say it's bad, but it's overshadowed by the rest.
Lames isn't directed at anybody in particular, I just remember being pissed that they made such a 'pop' record.

this was pretty funny
anyways. 5 Burroughs blows. it's horrible. and hello nasty has some of the densest layered tracks comprised of samples, drum machines, keyboards, and live instruments i have ever heard. it's their most intricate/crafted album.

haha I forget that we have Mods too. Theres at least 1O sublevel Mods and 3 super Mods on another board I visit. It works pretty effectively though...I mean once your IPs banned your screwed.
But yea people still got a hard on 4 TT5B? I thought that died after the LP dropped?

Nerd up. It has a handful of really solid songs, but after I heard that album I knew not to expect much from them after that. And TT5B proved it. But then The Mix Up disproved it. I dunno. But I do know that Hello Nasty is really really overrated.

I guess tunes like Body Movin' and Interglactic have a 'pop' appeal, but they still sound fairly imaginative and unique sounding hip hop songs, of any time. I mean Interglactic is just fucking bizarre, it's like old school retro influenced futuristic type shit.
I like how random that album is. I don't particualry think there's loads that really, really stands out and it's not an easy album from start to finish (lots of different moods), but a song like Picture This is a cool example of a completely new style for the Beasties, with added tripiness and darkness etc
i like that albim and get into it, or certain tunes an awful lot at times, but it's probably the one I can go longest without listening anything of it. That's not a bad thing. Anyway I'm only saying this as maybe you should give it the off-go every now and again, just pick out random tracks to suit certain moods, and see what you think.
If you give a toss about any of my rambling!

I appreciate the effort, mate. If it were an Adrock solo record it would be phenomenal. As it stands, it's just bland to me. I don't hate hate all of it, but it's just patchy and dull and I can't listen to it for sustained periods of time. The lyrics are pretty corny, and the mix is just flat to my ears. It really lacks vitality after Remote Control. Flowin Prose came on at a party a while back, and that was nice. I rate that track, but it gets no love for the sake of something like Body Movin' which is just plain confuddling.
I had my copy go missing recently and I haven't even bothered replacing it. I like 5 Boroughs, though (which says a lot about me, I'm sure). Even accepting that Shazam and We Got The were awful (awful) ideas, the space on the album and its lack of pretense wouldn't have gone over with me so well if I hadn't hated Hello Nasty.

I get that 5 Boroughs isn't that great because nobody liked it. I guess it's my 'Second Coming'. For them to drop an album like Hello Nasty which I considered pretty much bullshit, TT5B sounded like a step in the right direction as a follow-up.
They don't seem to have it together like they did on the first 4, I admit.
