How dodgy is this?

I bought a book on amazon marketplace on the 2nd of August and it had a delivery estimate of the 6th to the 20th (yesterday). Surprise, surprise, the book hadn't arrived by the 20th.

I sent the seller an email yesterday politely asking where the fuck my book was, and got this email today while I was at work:

Hi,

I have made an enquiry to Amazon about this book. Hopefully they will contact me as soon as possible and then I can send the book to you.

In the meantime, if you decide that you want a refund instead, let me know and I will sort it out as soon as possible.

Again, sorry for this misunderstanding which can hopefully be sorted out
quickly.

Kind regards

...and then later in the day, again while I was at work, I got this second email from the seller...

Hello Again,

I just received confirmation from Amazon about this order.

I will post the book to you this afternoon and it should reach you by Thursday.

Again, apologises for this misunderstanding and delay. I hope you find the book to your satisfaction.

Kind regards

Odd.

I'm not sure what it means, but to me it suggests that the seller had no fucking intention of selling the book to me at all, and was hoping I'd forget so that they could keep my money :/

Or he was confused about the process.

I got screwed once buying something on Amazon from a private party and they took care of me right away.

Can't say the same for ebay.

That was through marketplace aye?

It looks like Amazon didn't forward the transaction or payment to the actual seller, which would've been pretty bizarre. Either way, i don't think the seller had any idea you'd bought anything from them - hence them getting in touch with Amazon.

Could've been perfectly innocent, but the amazon system is pretty good for this sort of thing, so i'd doubt it.

What book was it anyway?

I can tell Amazon's better equipped for handling matters between seller and buyer than eBay are. I felt naked and exposed when shopping on eBay. Hard nipples.

I suppose it's possible that Amazon fucked up and didn't send the money straight away, but it left my account the day I bought the book, so what were Amazon doing with my money if they hadn't sent it on to the seller? Spending it in the pub? It's possible.

It was this (http://hello.eboy.com/eboy/2006/08/28/eboy-hello/) book, Timmeh (y)

Amazon should tell you when the seller has been credited via email. I've got one on the way that hasn't shipped yet but has been paid for. It's been 6 days... waiting...
