tomorrow's the first day of classes. im 21 and i still act like a little kid about it.

tonight i packed up my backpack for tomorrow. i have a bright red binder, bright carefully labeled dividers (each a different, solid color), some multicolored pens, fuzzy pencils with different designs (green turtle pencil, yellow monkey face pencil, blue squirrel pencil), the wood kind. a pencil sharpener, a tiny stapler. and my french book + work book

i'll also be wearing my new shoes. white shell toes with iridescent green stripes.

id wear all new clothes except i have work right after class, some jimmy john's tshirt and cap it is

does anyone else get psyched about school supplies? i know alruggs told me the other day how her coworkers got new supplies like it was back to school just for the fun of it.

im pretty sure the people in my one class that's restricted to upperclassmen and grad students will snicker at my fuzzy green turtle pencil, but you know what? fuck them. i love my fuzzy green turtle pencil.

I dropped my gym class last year because it was too cold the first day of class, so I'm not even remotely excited about anything else school related, let alone going back.

Wow, i do not get excited at all. I work less therefore make less money and then I have to spend money on school itself not to mention the gas I spend to get there(like a 40 minuet drive) and everything else.

I know, at least in my area, the academic calendar was meant to revolve around agriculture in the area. When my dad/people older than him were in school, school didn't start till after tobacco pickin' time, and ended before planting time, because families needed their kids to work on the farm. This put them starting in late Sept I think. Plus, it was just too fukkin hot for classes in the middle of the summer before all the schools had AC. Since it's no longer the norm for most school aged kids to put in tobacco for their families, they're starting the school year earlier (for me it was always mid August), but it's been a gradual change. In some areas, year round schools with a 3 week break between grades is becoming the norm, and probably once that's been in effect for awhile, starting a grade at the start of the calendar year will come into effect. It's just hard to switch all of a sudden from starting mid-late August to starting in January.

Oh yah, and tomorrow I start my most exciting class, Bees and Beekeeping.

Most people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I'm taking it, but

a)it actually fulfills one of my requirements
b)it sounds fun as hell
c)it should be an easy A
d)the thought of being unusually knowledgeable in the field of bees is alluring to me. knowing tons of random shit is kinda my thing.

theres also some other breaks in there too, but thats like, the long one, theres like a week for xmas, and some days for thanksgiving, shit like that. you end up going the same amount of days as always, but they give you less time off cause they say you forget too much in a standard two month summer break

i dunno... the binder was 33 cents, um... i remember i got the cheapest pack of paper they had... couple bucks for the dividers, more than i should have on writing utensils but im oddly picky about my writing utensils, and then the backpack, stapler, pencil sharpener, stuff like that is old.

i need to go clothes shopping but i hate it. it makes me pay far too much attention to my appearance, trying on clothes. then i get all like "aaaahhhhhh my hips are ginourmous!" and dont by anything and leave feeling like a fatty. i need some clothes though. hmm... maybe i'll do that tomorrow...

Well then again, if your school runs from January - September, then it ends at the start of your spring/summer. Our spring/summer starts in May and ends in September, which is also when we're out of school.
