View Full Version : Confessions of my Beastie Obsession

Since the early 90's, I've fantasized about what it must be like to be one of the lucky few to score front row for a Beastie Boy show. After a series of bad luck, (they skipped my home state... MCA broke an arm, tour cancelled.... had to sit in the VERY back of Madison Square Garden....) I finally had my chance - tickets for a general admission show in Central Park!!! I pulled out all the stops - got in line at 2:00, paid someone to wait w/ me so I could skip over to will call w/o any problems...)

It all came together, and I made it to the front row. The show was great! FANTASTIC!!! Maybe my best NYC experiences since moving here 4 years ago.

Thing is, it's been over 2 weeks since the show and I just can't stop obsessing over it!!! Example: I went to meet a friend for brunch in the East Village, and the line " Live in the Village, wherever I go I walk to..." pops in my head… someone says “Master list” in a meeting and I start thinking about Mixmaster Mike….I see “Stir fry” on a menu ….

Now, one might say to just roll with the obsession, (or get a life) but I have this vision of myself in 10 years where I’m 100 pounds heavier, chain smoking in my studio apt w/ 12 cats (all named after BB songs), and my only friends are the peeps I meet on the BB boards.

Am I the only one with this disorder?? Or, is this just the FRONT ROW AFTERGLOW??? ;)

You are not alone. Your symptoms are normal.

I just had my first front row experience after 20 years of being a fan, and my symptoms included showing everyone pix on my cell phone, obsessively poring over web sites for footage and commentary, and becoming irrationally teary-eyed to LTI in my car. This was followed, of course, by purchasing more tickets.

This is what the record companies need to realize . . . live shows breed addicts!!

Good for you. I had a nice view of them when I went to CPS in NY, but it could of been better. I never had the up-close view, but attending Boston and NY (Boston being my 1st live show ever), it's like a dream and that it feels like it never happened. Anyone have that feeling?

I think it was Mike D who broke his arm...I was pissed about that too, I'd bought my flight ticket to go over there to see em with Rage.

Hey, thanks guys!!! Nothing like a great support group to let you know that your not alone in your addiction.

ALIKAT -- your post made me laugh - that is it EXACTLY!!!! I've spent hours on the web watching all their videos/interviews, etc. I actually feel sad, like they were my pals for the evening and then they split. Maybe we'll do brunch when they get back to NYC (ha! Kidding;))
