Just got this email...

24 August 2007

hey all,

the other night i saw a film called "the 11th hour". i feel like everyone needs to see this film, so i'm taking a minute to blast y'all in hopes that you'll check it out.

it's a film about global warming. you could think of it like "an inconvenient truth" was chapter 1, and this is chapter 2. "the 11th hour" opened in NYC and LA this past weekend, and it opens in a bunch of other cities this coming weekend. check out this link to see where it's playing and find out more about the film.

hope you don't mind me blasting you guys about something that is not beastie boys related, but i just feel like it's too important not to.

He picked a great day to send that out. It was crazy hot here today! So hot that there were a few power outages due to the heat!

i saw this shit and its scary. really everyone needs to see it. people need to take responsibility. whether its as small as my flowers thread or something meaningful, people need to start taking matters into their own hands.

Great just what we need another movie full of scare tactics to get a political agenda pushed across.

And what exactly do you see this sinister "agenda" to be? Yeah it a political agenda in that it has to do with people (politics) and there is an intent to get something done (agenda). Everyone who tries to get something done through government has a political agenda. It's like the term "political agenda" has become an argument in and of itself against anything one doesn't like; you don't have to use facts, you just have to call something a political agenda to win the debate. Reducing, reusing and recycling -- what's so bad about that, dude? I've been chill about responding to stupid posts on this board, but I've got to say, people like you that say dumb shit like that have to be called out.

I'm not saying that recycling and lowering carbon emissions is a bad thing I'm just sick of all these political movies coming out preaching to us using numbers that are solely pulled out of their ass and profiting from it. Have you even seen the movie? I have and it has more BS numbers in it than Al Gore's polito flick. Isn't it funny how all these movies come out prior to election year? and yes the movie was financed by Leo Dicaprio who happens to be a huge financial contributor to the Dem's and will make a assload of $$$ off this film and how much if not all will go toward backing Hillary? I call them like I see them and this has Politics written all over it. Even the co-founder of Greenpeace has issues with this film

I think it's nice that Yauch enjoyed the movie and decided to recommend it. It's too bad it's getting so little attention. I'm pretty depressed about the environmental situation and I'm not convinced that individual people can make a difference, but I'm willing to watch the movie with an open mind. Go see the movie. You might learn something. You don't have to swallow every single thing in it as fact. I don't understand the hostility to a semi-celebrity trying to promote a cause he cares about. If I had a soapbox, I'd stand on it and yell really loud!

Perhaps I should use this thread as my soapbox. I'd like to recommend a movie to Yauch. I'll recommend it to the rest of you instead. It's King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters. It's a documentary about guys who play classic arcade games. It's HILARIOUS and at moments kind of heartwarming. Since I saw it, I keep thinking of things people said and did in the movie and I find myself laughing all by myself.

I can't imagine it as a regular movie. It will be interesting to see how they handle it. The sheer geekiness of all the guys who are in the club won't be believable in a regular movie.

Bring friends to see King of Kong. It's better with friends.

(you should probably bring friends to see Yauch's movie too)

I dont believe we are the main cause of global warming. I think it is the sun and Mother Earth's natural cycle. Nasa admits the sun has been very active with many dark spots. I do believe man pollutes way too much. But, if we all change a light bulb and stop driving cars than the changes were experiencing will stop?

I dont want to have a global carbon tax. Or any globalization.

Here is a great newsletter please give it a quick read....

I still plan to see the movie.

Fox hates the movie? Then I'm bound to appreciate it.

"Another press conference someone's talking out their neck"

trackin'
good sense...
though their real motives are obviously devisive and undermind/ contradict the very "initiative" - looking at the lack of direct action, practicalities and investment in real/ meantime, i don't think the "numbers" could be overstated enough in any terms. but again, to watch them "shuffel numbers when facts is facts..."
