Elmo is thinking about Mr. Noodle dancing to Beastie Boys music (yes, I have a toddler :))
Seriously,
I was scrolling through TiVo and found this bit of info:
Charlie Rose: musicians the Beastie Boys; author Bill Flanagan
It airs on my local PBS station 8/29: 12am, 4am, and and 530pm.
Since it's airing Wednesday here it will probably air on Tuesday in most major media markets.

omigod this is the ultimate ninja face-off of interviews!
the esteemed mr. charlie rose, yoda zen master of the interview . . . faces the notorious, the irreverent, the most dead-pan mischiveous interviewees of all time: the beastie boys!
will they go serious? or will they stay true to type? half of me wants genuine soul-bearing (rose wins) but half of me wants them to make the entire pbs audience believe they just wrote three albums in the limo on the way to interview. about sheep...

I just set the DVR. So is this definitely an interview? Or could it possibly be a performance?
Seems a bit strange for either...but I'll take it. I wonder what the backstory is here? Why are they doing this one-off interview with PBS and Charlie Rose?

i LOVE charlie rose! i watch him on the regular. i saw him on the subway (6train 59th street) not too long ago. the man keeps it real.
i predict: no performance (they dont do that type of thing on his show) and that they maaaayyyyy be a little more serious with him, which might be interesting once.
looking forward to it.

The only completely out of character interview I've ever seen Stephen Colbert do was on Charlie Rose, so, they might be a little more serious.

If anything it should be interesting. I think Charlie Rose will get a somewhat more serious interview.

So, just watched it!
And awwww, some it was so painfully awkward for poor Charlie! It felt like he'd been warned about their shtick but didn't quite know how to roll with it. Still, they were on their absolute best behavior, I think, and Rose seemed to laugh off any antics. Mike D and "Yoke" :o were totally forthcoming and thoughtful. And after a few weird moments even Horowitz began making things as easy as possible for Rose. I must say though, it's always bugged me how Rose overlaps & interrupts his guests, and with the Boys that shows more than ever because their banter is such a well-oiled machine. I file it under Milestones.
Highlights: Oliver story, the acronym discussed (rare!), Yauch's mom's lemon sorbet.

watching it now...this is great
Chuck Rose and the BEASTIES!
For those that missed the show (like me) Charlie Rose has a site and they post all the interviews. It should be up by tomorrow.

Interesting interview. In some ways it was better than i expected, and in other ways not. There was a lot of great stuff discussed and a sense of seriousness we rarely get to see. But on the other hand there were quite a few instances wherein Charlie would ask a particularly inciteful question that they ended up just kind of brushing off or inadvertently dodging. I think he kept up particularly well, though, with their playfulness. He's always had a good sense of humor and adaptive quality to the attitude and demeanor of his guests, which I think really shined here.
Yauch and Mike were on point. Horovitz was a little harder to tame, though I can't complain; it's the type of character he displayed tonight that really intrigues us about their whole stigma in the first place. All in all, this will probly go down with some of the best bboy interviews to date.
The Oliver story was definitely an informative and tickling highlight.

Don't forget about the Spike Jones/ Country Mike musical that never got made. I'm pretty sure they were joking about this, but who knows...?

I don't know. It was okay... I felt like Rose interrupted too much. I wanted to hear the Boys speak, but all I could hear sometimes was Rose adding small phrases in while they were speaking.
