I've never seen him. He just doesnt seem like he'd be the type to chill with the boys.. Like everyone else who interveiws them talks about the stupidest shit because they know them, but this guy looks like he should be interveiwing dean martin instead of the boys. (sorry for all spelling errors.. Im kinda writing and not looking at the keyboard!)
PS - Wow Mike looks the best I've seen him in a long time! GO MIKE!

Now see, that's what I loved about Charlie being the interviewer. Neutral and not all star struck by them ("do you guys tour intern'ationlly?"). I mean come on, you had to love hearing him introduce the Sabotoge video?!?!
Did you guys catch the Oliver story? I think my wondered with all the excitement :-)

i really loved how they were real for once, at least somewhat. adam h didnt want to be, but it seemed like he realized that charlie wasnt such a bad guy so he loosened up a bit. mike d: adam h is gonna get you next time... did you really have to mention oliver?!
(actually, i liked that too.)
good interview. someone put it on youtube already

Go for the coffee ice cream, it's the best.
I wish they would have asked about a new dvd featuring videos from "The Mix
Up" and "TT5B". They've done this for other albums, I sure do hope they do it
for this one as well.

Yep, that was just as much fun the second time around. Funny what you miss on the first go around (maybe that's just my A.D.D). Makes me really wish I could go back and watch a taping of my conversations during the There.com thingy. I bet they asked me if I want to meet for a cup of tea when they get back to town.

mike did look the best i've seen him in awhile, and everybody was lookin slick in their suits of course.
for some reason i cracked up when he asked if they toured internationally. i kinda wished a little more banter had been allowed, but it was good stuff all the same.

^ Mike looked great!! It seems like he's put on a bit of weight, but I love it! They just kinda seem like themselves again. I love it.
I was expecting the boys to be less serious. I was pretty surprised when they joked in an honest way. Im used to thier "we were captured by yeti, etc" humor. They just seemed relaxed (Until Charlie brought up the tibet thing!) I loved it!

I just realized there is a part 3 and added it to my other post. What's really intriguing is that in part 3, Charlie plays a clip of "The Rat Cage" which is credited to The Criterion Collection. Could this mean that the videos are coming out on DVD? Discuss.

Well I saw Mike mention a new DVD on the live chat, but I didnt know it was going to be another CC. YET a friend of mine insists that she's known about it for a long time, although the news has just recently been released to us.

If they were gonna do another criterion collection, I'd hope they'd be smart about it and wait until they're on the verge of retirement. That way they'll be able to include everything post HN, rather than a half-assed short DVD full of mediocre vids.
I suppose they could just do like bonus installments at lesiure and be less definitive about it and amend a new disc each time they round up an exceptional amount of new video material.

I enjoyed it. Half-ass serious, half-ass joking, half-ass random stuff. Sounds like a Beastie interview to me.
What exactly did Horovitz say about the Oliver thing? I think I remember seeing some very old footage of him on stage in High School/Jr. High...could this possibly be what he was talking about.
RaZoRbLaDe KiSs
08-29-2007, 06:49 PM
^Yuss, that is exactly what he was talking about. I dont understand why he would leave school though? that seems a bit extreme to me. Appearently he was very passionant about his acting.
And I dont know what kind of video's they could possibly release off of TT5B unless they're going to include all of the vid's they've already put on SGH (which I hope they dont!) But I have no idea what kind of new material they have besides the few video's I saw during the live chat/rat cage/off the grid. And I agree Brother, those vid's that we havent yet seem do look kind of mediocre/handheld camera'ish. I was kinda hoping we'd get some behind the scenes tour shit. I dont wanna see any more videos, and I dont want to see any more concerts - I want to see THEM.. goofing around being them.
Laver1969
08-29-2007, 06:54 PM
Yeah...there are still some video(s) that were shot in Australia that haven't surfaced yet. I could see them putting out some sort of TMU short-movie type-a-thing.
RaZoRbLaDe KiSs
08-29-2007, 07:06 PM
Im really hoping for some behind the scenes bullshit. Every other band has that dvd where they include some videos, some concert footage, some invterveiws and some goofy videos of them.. That's what I'd like to see from the boys.

He tried out for the lead role in Oliver I believe and didn't get it and Mike and Yauch love rubbing that in! I remember that being discussed in another interview a while back.
I loved this interview... That program is so in keeping with the suits and music. My fave thing about it was seeing the Mix Up vids super big on the TV instead of in a lil computer window. I have a feeling we're gonna get a Mix Up dvd. Goodness that'd be swell.

here is the entire episode in one piece (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8413230772937962817) including that other dude that he interviewed.
i think the youtube vids are missing the beginning where he introduces them and plays their music vids. it cracks me up every time, the part where charlie rose pronounces yauch's name funny lol :D sorry babe (yohk).

That show was painful to watch. Charlie Rose did such a horrible job. He was so damned awkward! The Beasties had to keep trying to keep it going. "Do you tour internationally?" Doesn't the show do even minimal research before an interview?
The Fresh Air interview was ten times better.

thank god someone said it!
I hate this interview, I really do ... almost felt sorry for the boys
ok ... it's always nice to see them feelin' & lookin' good, especially Mike and Yauch
(they are obviously better diplomats),
but Horovitz's facial expressions explain it all
he was like: more of these stupid questions and I'm gonna shoot myself ... in the head
 wow ... hundreds of years

It was a little awkward, but Charlie Rose is one of the best interviewers working today. The man holds his own with Nobel laureates, PhDs, authors, artists, musicians, politicians - whoever you throw at him. I'm glad they did the interview, not only because it gets them a bit of exposure to an audience who doesn't have any idea what Fresh Air is, but because the show is set up to focus on the interview itself and not paid advertisements.

I have listened to and watched many interviews, and like many fans have been annoyed by the questions that they ask the band...
this was not one of them.. this one showed that the Beastie Boys can stay up to par with one of televisions finest interviewers, and vice versa.
I like when Charlie recognized that they were "pulling his chain"
sometimes interviewers know the answer to the question they are asking, but they pose it as a question to allow the audience to get to know the subject from their own point of view...
this showed the beastie boys in a professional light to a wide audience of sophisticated viewers... it was a great session

I think the awkwardness is what I liked. Horovitz asking for clarification a couple of times. Sophisticated hi-hat patterns...

I've got mixed feelings. Somewhere right between Remy's and Documad's opinions.:)
The thing that annoyed me, was like another poster said, Rose kinda butts in when he shouldn't and talks over the interviewee(s) too much.
You gotta throw the question out there and then let the bboys run with it and stfu, imo. He kept trying to be part of the funny instead of letting the funny run it's own course. :p:D:confused:
