you have a fine history of butchering the English language from the misspelling and pronunciation of words like aluminium, and the constant replacement of the elegant 'S' with the crass and crude 'Z' to your total rejection of the letter 'U' in noble words like colour and favourite. However, the one linguistic crime that irks me the most is the phrase, 'I could care less.' this makes no sense. used to emphasize your indifference to a particular event/issue/remark, the proper, and indeed logical, formation of such an utterance is, 'I couldn't care less.' Here, the lack of concern is such that there is no more room for indifference. Whereas with your bastardised version the meaning is totally ambiguous, as there remains space for more apathy.
I await your reasons for this blatant disregard for language and logic. 'I could care less' is not a valid excuse.

American's have a fine history of butchering the English....full stop.....however and lest we forget without Uncle Sam the English would be sporting lederhosen and preparing for Ocktoberfest....when not goosestepping around Piccadilly Circus, ensuring everyones papers are in order, while keeping the trains on time.....I love the difference in slang/dialect form state to state, particularily the Southern states....great fun....:D

I've heard Americans say "I couldn't care less"... but I've also heard "I could care less." Maybe the latter is sarcasm? That's probably it. It was originally intended as sarcasm and then it just got picked up and mixed in with common phrases that people say and don't think about. Mystery solved.
You non-American English speakers don't speak perfectly proper English either. You've got slang and whatnot. Quit yer bitchin!

we prounounce it "kreg", "herb" loses the "h", and aluminum loses the "i" (check a dictionary, both spellings are in most now). that's how things are spelled and pronounced here. stop whining.

Me and Bob should totally e-fight it out over the "stones/pounds" thing right now. This thread would get epic.
truthfully i legitimately didn't know that you guys actually still used that as a system of measurement (i'm american, since when do i know things about other cultures), i thought it was just slang or something. if i'd known it was actually an official measurement i probably would have kept my mouth shut (i mean really it's like feet and inches, only for weight, i guess)

I got a chuckle out of looking at the weather channel.com site when it asks you if you want in your temprature in "English" or "Metric". And, while we are on the subject of the American langauge, can somebody explain the expression "bloody" to me?
Bloody good = very good
Bloody well = very well
Bloody hell = very hell?
I don't think it really directly translates into 'very' or indeed anything at all. It's just an expression that seems to be used in all sorts of contexts. Get it you very Yank?

I enjoy that phrase "could care less". I use it all the time. But then, I'm sort of a redneck. Fuck all you dandys.
SO LET ME EXPLAIN
By saying this (could care less) I'm saying I could care (an even larger amount of) less (than the subject of the remark)(but I don't, because I don't care in the first place).
Right? Sound right people.
Why am I trying to explain myself to someone who probably speaks in a monotonic drone, without any inflection at all to denote anger, pleasure, sleepyness, elation, whatever.... Have any of you ever watched a British Girl in an intimate love scene? My god it's awkward becausetheytalkinthisdroneandyoucannottellwhenthey areenjoyingthemselvesortheyarejustboredoutoftheirs kulls. I had to straightup turn a movie off once because it was so annoying. It was one of those ones I paid for at the Hotel too. :( I guess the chicks being frog ugly didn't help either.
NZ chicks are a smidge hotter though, but quite a few of them have Man Jaws. Man Jaws.

"I could care less" doesn't make sense no matter how anyone tries to rationalize it.
it's just a mistake that got picked up and spread around like herpes.
sort of like, "I should of bought a larger sack of dildos". when it should be, "I should HAVE bought a larger sack of dildos".
also, with the "h" thing in "herb", pretty much anyone in america on national t.v. or the radio drops the "h" in ALL words that begin with "h". it's like the official way that media decided to say things. I think it's kind of annoying actually.

what I don't get is when british people add an "r" at the end of names or things that end with "a". from "madonna" to "madonner". I do no get that. come over to mine and we'll have a chat about it in front of the telly with a couple of fags. Not too late though, I have to study for my maths exam.

"Flatmate" sounds so perverse. In fact calling your friends "mates" is very telling. I mean, I for one don't mate with my friends. And "snogging" sounds incredibly painful.
But not to worry! I am taking a trip to Europe soon, and when I get there I fully intend to round up all of the natives and move them onto reservations and force them to speak Cheyenne. Problem solved.
