I just found this on Nasty Little Man's site. It's the first I've heard of it.
$1 FROM EVERY TICKET TO GO DIRECTLY TO ECOFUND VIA ARIA
Fans And Media Encouraged To Bring Old Phones, PDAs For Recycling
www.reverbrock.org/beastieboys/
As previously announced, in an effort to lessen the tour’s impact on the environment, Beastie Boys will make a $1.00 charitable donation from every ticket to an EcoFund through the non-profit organization ARIA (Artists Resources in Action) which supports Reverb, the outreach program to educate and engage musicians and their fans to promote environmental sustainability and fund local nonprofit organizations in the cities the tour visits. This will include offsetting CO2 emissions from band, crew and gear travel as well as the powering of the concerts; coordinating BioDiesel to be used in touring vehicles; arranging for voter registration at all shows; coordinating local and national non-profit organizations to conduct environmental and social justice education and outreach at shows; and the funding of non-profit organizations working to achieve environmental sustainability.
Beastie Boys encourage fans-as well as media attending the on-site media roundtable/press conferences currently being scheduled in select markets–to bring old mobile phones, PDAs and related accessories to the shows, where they can be collected at on-site recycling booths. For more info on Beastie Boys cellular recycling efforts, visit www.reverbrock.org/beastieboys or on cellular recycling in general, visit collectivegood.com.
