So I'm getting really annoyed with my eyeliner. I don't use it much but when I do it's all smudgy and if i try to outline my whole eye I look like a hooker. My friend suggested using liquid eyeliner, because I use pencil. Anyone know of any good brands, and have a suggestion for making me look un-raccoon-like?
Also, how do you make sure your makeup stays on? I have foundation but I never use it, though i think using it helps the eye makeup, etc., stay on? I guess that's what powder is for but I don't use that.
Basically I need a make over, k thanx.

I never use dark eyeliner, because I can't draw a straight line and as you said it gets too smudgy and hooker-y.
I use cheap ass kohl pencils in lighter colours. I have one with dark and light green and that seems to work very well. The lighter one looks good if you feel/look tired and want to look 'fresher'. And green goes very well with red hair. (y)
I have a darkblue one with glitters for when I'm in a party mood. What's good about these pencils is that their already quite soft and smudgy, so it's easier to put on and doesn't look wonky.

I only ever use eyeliner on the lower lid, maybe occasionally on the very corner of the upper, because my eyes are kind of deep-set and if I wear all-around eyeliner it makes my eyes look small and close together. Which is never a good look. I use pencil and set it with a dusting of translucent powder, using a small brush. I've tried liquid liner a handful of times, but it always seems to look quite 'harsh' on me.

Use a small slanted brush like this Brush (http://www.maccosmetics.co.uk/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT4713&PRODUCT_ID=PROD66074) and then use an eyeshadow as your colour. Stroke the brush in the shadow and apply! I use Mac Carbon for black but often just use any other eyeshadows for different colours.
As for keeping make up on, I find using a primer helps - the Mac one is good but I also have used a Ruby & Millie one or a Champney's one. Put it on before your foundation or tinted moisteriser or whatever you use. They say powder 'fixes' your make up so you could try. Else a gentle spritz of hairspray works if you're worried about it slipping!! Just remember to close your eyes
I don't want a lawsuit for that giving that recommendation.

I use a brush similar to the one trailerprincess recommends with this (http://www.smashbox.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/products.detail/categoryID/9ec2c870-e97d-4276-8d49-1e9378210522/productID/a726abda-3644-4fc5-a8f3-0b34289b59b3/) - Smashbox cream eyeliner
I have it in several colours and it's brilliant stuff. Really easy to apply.

They say you should master using pencils before trying liquid liner. A bit of flesh coloured poweder over your eyelid should seal it. Also, I think a dark metallic green kohl liner would really flatter your complexion, MaxFactor do a pretty good one.

i really hate foundation. i don't wear it, and only use a tinted moisturizer as a concealer. i have pretty clear skin, and even if i do break out i refuse to suffocate it with that stuff.
a girl i recently befriended wears it in a color that doesn't match her skin at all so she has this orangeish line around her jawline and it make-a me sad :(
i use a powdered eyeliner with a stiff angled brush as previously mentioned, and i set it with a sparkling mineral water face spray. usually stays put all night, even if i'm using crazy sparkly eyeshadow along with it.

if a girl wears it right, you won't even know they have it on at all.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions folks. I have heard that bare minerals stuff is nifty. Damn now I need some money for this stuff.
Cos, where would you get that spray stuff you're talking about?

nope
it's completely visible no matter what
there's a certain opacity to skin and foundation blocks it

chicks who wear lots of foundation or wear it often tend to have gross skin. so they wear more, so their skin gets worse and so on.

i usually get it at whole foods or other health food stores. kinda pricey but it lasts a long time. i spritz it maybe once or twice after putting on makeup (but before mascara). another one i used to use:
http://www.revivalabs.com/specialtiesuncare.htm
the facial spray, usually in Linden. sets stuff reaaal nice.

all i ever use is artistry powder and/or liquid foundation, blue nivea mascara, black rimmel london liquid eye linder for top, black manhattan WATERPROOF ONLY eyeliner pencil for the lower lid, all kind of colors of maybelline dream mousse eye shadow (so much better and longer lasting than the powder crap)
the mix up!
Liquid liner on the top, pencil on the bottom.
I use a $2 liquid liner by Wet'n Wild. It stays really well (I've been swearing by it for 4 years almost). Pencil doesn't matter. Any is fine. To get the full BLACK effect, run a hairdryer on the tip of it for a few seconds to get it soft. (And you want to apply it to your bottom lid, like, where it's wet almost.)
To get the shape I wanted, I would practice on paper first. Like, draw it over-and-over again.

Hmmm...
I use a liner pencil and different colors from black to green. You aren't supposed to line the entire eye, just the top lid and 1/2 the bottom lid, stopping in the just past the pupil. I then use a lighter colored eye shadow and go over where I lined to soften the hard edges liner can leave (that makes it look too strong and fake) and blend it a bit. If I use black liner, I use a charcoal shadow. I then use that shadow on my upper lid.
Works for me. :)

Yeah don't use foundation if you can possibly avoid it. If you're like me and have acne and acne scars, i just use a little cover up powder. never let it get thick or noticable. just to take the redness away. but if you have decent skin, throw that shit far far away.
don't outline your whole eye, that will make your eyes look smaller, like little peepholes coming out of the black. don't start from your inner eye, move a little bit outwards to whereabouts your iris starts on the side, and move outwards. don't put anything on that inner eyelid area. dont' touch that. and put a little eyeliner over the top of your eyelashes, but not too much. go about half the way across. this, so far, will make your eyes look bigger.
smudge it a little if you want, but not so much that it looks like dirt. you don't necessarily have to use black eyeliner by the way. a brown would work fine.
only use liquid eyeliner on the top lid, and only very thinly. line where your top eyelashes are. seriously, dont' use too much of this stuff at all because it's deadly. save if for special occasions maybe.
eyeshadow and coloured eyeliner, save that shit for special occasions too.

Benefit Bad Gal eyeliner works a treat, I hear. My current pencil is pretty cheap, and I have problems with it smudging during the night when I line my lower lashes, and it kinda collects in the corners of my eyes. Next time, I'm investing in a decent brand.
If you want your foundation/eyeshadow to stay put during the day, user a good base first - there's a tonne of foundation primers out there now, and they'll create a smoother, longer lasting finish.
White eyeliner or some shimmer (I use L'Oreal Mousse Appeal) carefully applied to the corners of your eyes makes them look bigger and brighter.
Foundation isn't bad. Just find the right one for your skin - I've used Clinique for years and it's what works for me. Apply it properly and no one will know you're wearing it.

oh shitz eyeliner is my thing. let me get up in this business ; )
right right right. first of all, it depends on the shape of your eyes, and what sort of eyeliner you would like to use: liquid, pen, pencil or kohl. kohl is the easiest one to use for those mussy lines, non-specific grungy looks you see about, but be careful or, yes, you can end up looking like a big ole tramp caught in the rain. and we don't want that, do we?
liquid liner, well. it takes a little while to get the gist of it. if you are just starting out a pen or a product with a built in applicator is easier to use - i started off with MAC's liquid eyeliner (http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY15101&PRODUCT_ID=PROD1475). it's easy to build up the thickness of the line, and shape as you wish. so if you want giant amy winehouse slicks or subtle curves, you can do it.
but to really get it spot on, i would suggest getting an eyeliner block and a good quality flat eyeliner brush. i use the brush and eyeliner from laura mercier (http://www.lauramercier.com/products/colour/eyes/eye_liner/eye_liner/) and it is pimpin. one of the first things you should get the hang of is adding a thin line of colour below the roots of the eyelashes on your upper lid. it's tricky at first, and on more than one occasion i ended up with the brush in my eyeball and crying £16 eyeliner, but it's worth it when you master it - wiggle it in small movements along the roots. it really widens up your eyes. even if you just put this line there and leave it at that, you can notice the difference. those few mms of black/brown/blue/grey/green add length to your eyelashes and make your eyes POP! you would look really good with the emerald green one.
to build up the line on the top of the lid try to use one long stroke, but if not, draw a series of lines. invest in cotton buds, they are your friend. experiment (http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY15101&PRODUCT_ID=PROD9961) with different colours once you get the hang of it. use a small amount of concealer/foundation/transculent powder before you put it on if you want it to stay put. if you are feeling really swish, laura mercier does a great primer especially for eyes (http://www.lauramercier.com/products/colour/eyes/creme_eye_colour/eye_basics/) which hides any discolouration and creates a nice neutral base, but i dinnae really think it's necessary on young faces.
and finally, make sure your eyebrows are nicely done to frame your hard work, ha!
i dont use foundation because i don't really think i need it (fingers crossed) and it makes my skin feel suffocated. i moisturise like a mother. nothing fancy, just johnson's. if i feel i need some coverage, i use laura mercier tinted moisturiser (bitches better be paying me some commission after this post) or this fab new mineral powder (http://www.lauramercier.com/products/colour/flawless_face/foundation/mineral_powder_spf_15/) which - marketing blurb - helps clear the skin of toxins and promotes healthy skin growth - marketing blurb - and is really easy to use. don't use powder on dry skin, it will stick to the dry bits and cake up. i use their primer as well as moisturising so it stays on and looks natural.
and those are my skin and eye tips. anyone would think i wear makeup often - i don't. man, i am just far far faaaaar too lazy to do that stuff every morning. but on occasion i'll whip out the overpriced laura mercier and MAC and see what i can create. oh yeah, LM stickglosses are the shiznit too. another vote there. wow. where's my cheque, laura, where's my cheque?!

One of my best friends used to work for Laura Mercier so I am hooked too. I love their tinter moisteriser, lipstick, secret camouflage and concealer. And she used to steal me their creme brulee bubble bath for Christmas - £30 a jar but I can't quite justify buying it for myself. She went to the States to meet the woman herself at an event for their top reps and came back in complete awe. Then she went to Chantecaille so I got lots of their stuff too. Now she's at MAC in New Zealand - so I am going there to see her (and get cheap supplies!!)

Makeup suck basically...
I did-do, occasionally put some eyeliner but i look so weird with it, because my skin is so pale as in peach and i am so blond. So, really, i go with the natural look which seem to be working fine. And yea, foundation is the worst, will make you skin age faster and like Turd said ''like frosting on a cake'', no matter what, it always show when someone use it, pretty gross.
If you want to have a great color skin, drink water and exercise, that will do the trick.

My skin is just...bleh. Even though I take good care of it.

MAC is indeed the shit. They have a really good ...god I forget the name of it. Basically it's something you put over your lid BEFORE the shadow to may it stay longer.
Then for eyeliner, I use liquid and it stays forever (unless you rub it hard or whatever). I use this one (http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Eye/EyeLiner/ultra-liner-waterproof.htm). I like it because the small, almost paint-brush like tip. I hate any other kind of applicator for liquid. And pencil alwaysss smears for me I've never had it do otherwise. But I did have the best luck using this one. (http://www.covergirl.com/products/product.jsp?productId=perfect_point_plus_eyeliner)

Maybe luck but drinking plenty of water clean your system, and having a healthy liver improve the skin, because if your liver is full of shit, it will appear on your face too. Anyway, i witness this for me so water and a clean liver + exercise can benefit you. To clean your liver you can use tincture of dandelion or milk thistle.
My sister in law make natural skincare product, one of them is a floral water made with '' rose de damas'', it work perfectly nicely. I don't know the translation in english of this particular rose, i will have to ask her.
Anyway....

liquid eyeliner is not easier to use than a pencil. In fact many people find it more challenging and not always easy to control.
what I would actually recommend for you is to get your self a nice angled liner brush. it's like a paint brush but with short stiff bristles that are cut at an angle. what it allows you to do is turn any eyeshadow you have into eyeliner. instead of a harsh line of color, you can get a really nice smoky look. For a more defined line you can get the brush wet and drag it across the eyeshadow. YOu can probably find this brush at one of those beauty stores. and I'm sure if you go into a deptment store make-up counter there will be someone there that can give you techniques for using the brush.
Edit: I didn't see trailerprincesses post. that is the brush I'm talking about. it's good stuff.

smoky smudgy eyeliner is my bag
if im wearing any liner its at night its when im wearing crazy ass eyeshadow to boot so the messier and the thicker the better
at work each day I wear no eye makeup at all.
and I only wear black liquid liner when I have on a very light pink or shimmery white eye shadow.
and Im obsessed with those liquid liners that are pure sparkles, I have them in purple, green, brown and gold
the gold one I slather over my entire eye lid and on the bottom lid for an in your face light sparkle.
can kinda be seen here in this pic (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/HEIRESS/poopoo/airessjennnnnnnn.jpg)
and I oh so enjoy my crazy eyeshadow colors like purples (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/HEIRESS/shat/blackeye1.jpg?t=1188928875)
and I tried the cheaper loreal version of that mineral powder and it did not agree with my skin at all
I cant see the more expensive stuff being able to cover up my acne and scarring so I dont think Ill ever bother
I never leave the house without my coverup or foundation, I cant handle my scarring to be visible
I only look in pictures because the camera flash bounces off my makeup
I only ever had nice skin for about 2 years because i was on birth control, then my hair started falling out so I chose to have bad skin over bald patches
but even during that time I still always work full makeup because I already had scarring

How bad is your skin? What kind of foundation do you use? In all of your pictures I can't notice a single scar....I would have never guessed you had bad skin.
I seem to break out only on one side of my face, and it's not even the side I sleep on. It's really strange actually. I wear foundation but I never feel like it's enough coverage.
And to Turd who thinks foundation looks like shit on everyone, I think the ladies who are ballsy enough, should post pics with and without foundation...you'll see Turd what a difference it makes and how a little can go a long way.
