View Full Version : some day i'm going to drop a bunch of change in some guy's coffee
i pass a bunch of homeless people on my way to and from work. i give them change if i have any on me (i end up tossing it in a jar and never looking at it when i get home anyway so it's pretty much wasted if i don't), but sometimes it's a judgment call. it's like, "is that guy begging for change, or is it just a scruffy dude standing around drinking coffee?"
i've had a few close calls too, where i've nearly given change to someone who was actually just drinking coffee or doing something else with a cup. but i just know that some day, i'm gonna screw up big time and throw quarters into some guy's drink. that's gonna be a bad day for all parties involved, i'm sure

My dad was in the States with my siblings a few years ago and was standing outside a shop waiting for them to come out and someone dropped change in his coffee because they thought he was a tramp. He thought it was amusing

yes. it reminds me of the time i was walking down the street during the international comedey festival and some guys were standing on the corner carrying on about rabbits and easter eggs and it was bout 2am and I was really drunk but I did think they were comedians taking the piss so I stood there watching them for a couple of minutes laughing until someone came and gave me a card saying something about a club that jesus is the bouncer of, and I realised they were born again christians.
still, I think that made the whole thing funnier, if anything.

Never give a beggar alms....if he requests food and you're flush, halt your day, walk away then go and score him some subway and drop it on him...it feels really good to do.....I live wayyyy downtown and our core has the largest numper of homeless/transient and substance abuse laden street population,per-capita in alllll North America....it's unreal.....sometimes when I'm asked for money for food and I go into my "I work for a social agency that can help" spiel...I been told to fuck off more than naught....so yes,it's frustrating....but if you feel the need to contribute support the agency's in your community that do outreach, addiction and housing work.....cause if ya toss change in the hat 9 out of 10 times your supporting an addiction, which kinda sucks....

In my twenties, some guy saw me sitting on a park bench in ratty jeans, etc., smoking a cigarette... came over and tried to give me a dollar. I laughed. "I'm not homeless... I'm a Tower employee!"

last winter i remember i was a bit sick so between classes i took a nap in the commons room of the biggest building on campus. i was wearing those warm up pants and a really big and heavy hoodie and i was curled up on a big bench using my backpack as a pillow.
i get awoken from a phone call from my friend saying that her roommate saw me laying there and thought i was a homeless guy until i rolled over and could see my face...
i can see it occasionally when i had the scraggly beard in the cold temps, but its not like i was shuffling around with holes in my clothes!

That whole "dropping change in someone's coffee" thing also happened on an episode of 'Seinfeld.' Kramer gave some homeless guy leftover Chinese food in a Tupperware container and came back for it later, but the homeless dude refused to return the Tupperware. They got in an argument and Kramer stormed off.
Later, Kramer came back and apologized to the dude about it and dropped some change in his cup, to which the homeless guy replied, "That's my coffee, you idiot!".
I have no idea what I just relayed all that. Neither do you.
Have an idea, that is.

No, it's been a long time. First I moved... then I didn't have any internet except for the internet cafe across the street. But Time-Warner came today and installed it... so I'm good to go, until I find a job and then I'll hardly be on again.
Oh, and we're definitely on the same time now, buddy. Check the location.
