Don't know about any of you, but im pretty pumped for the chicago shows. anybody interested in getting down for lunch or something the day of the riv show (9/26) to celebrate the end of the tour and, well, of the "The Mix-Up Era" in general? Early enough so that we can get in line in ample time, of course. If not, no biggie, im sure i'll get to meet some of you folks in line anyway. looking forward to it. peace.

I'm probably looking to sell my ticket to both shows. It looks like I'm not going to be able to go.

that sounds fun! i'll be at work until it's time to line up, but i suggest a green mill* after party post-riv for sure. noob pregunta: how do . . . board people . . . find each other at these things? i met a whole bunch of great people at the nyc show but never asked about the boards. :)

I wish Pooty was going to be there, he is really easy to seek out and tends to be surrounded by people from the boards.

come on folks, i assume we'll be able to find each other pretty easily no matter where we meet, for we're all going to be "dressed to impress", right?

Hello -
Don't know how if any of you were planning on public transpo-ing around Chi, but "...Chicago is having a mass transit funding crisis and planning to
eliminate some routes and runs. This is suppose to be effective this
weekend..."
A friend of mine who lives there will give me an update 9/22, and I will share it here.
This might make finding each other all the more relevant, eh? So we can share a cab?
Speaking of dress to impress - I've been looking for pics online of just how tux-y this thing might be. Can anyone point me to some?

Depends on what flavor of bear you are looking for. I know of a place that has an amazing bear list.

Lavers Den is the spot and here is the bear list:

Polar
Grizzly
Sun
Panda
American Black
Asiatic Black
Sloth
Brown
Koala

FAMOUS???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You guys need to stop with this famous stuff.

I wish I could make it to Chicago. It's not good timing with work and all.

I guess I should take the "famous" bit as a compliment so thank you, but I'm still not famous. :o

You people have no idea what it's like to hang with this dude for a day or two. You could drop my man on the dark side of the moon and someone would still come up to him and say "Hey, Aren't you that Pootytang guy???"

Hello, Y'all. Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I'm also a Chicago resident and wanted to provide any kind of insights and address any questions visitors might have about Chicago. I had a few thoughts while reading this thread.

First, the mass transit crisis has been averted for now. Public transportation will not be a problem. The Howard (Red) Line train stops around the block from the Riviera at Lawrence. Just get off the train and head west (the direction the sun is setting). At the first light, look to your left and you'll likely see people lining up already.

As for cool spots around the Riv, the Green Mill is indeed prime, but can quickly get packed. And, I hate to say it, I've had sub-standard service there on more than one occasion. If you head north on Broadway (that's the major intersection with Lawrence), you'll quickly find yourself in an area that's best described as small Chinatown. Lots of tasty Vietnam and Thai places in the area. I personally will be enjoying the Tofu Pad Thai at Thai Pastry on North Broadway. Great, cheap eats. And BYOB. I'll be the guy with the Dom. Gala event, indeed!

Any other Chicago questions, comments, or concerns?

Well, currently weather.com is saying next Thursday will be a high of 68 and partly cloudy. It should be a *beautiful* night! I've seen several shows there. There is an awesome view of the Chicago skyline and many nearby cultural attractions. The restaurant/bar scene isn't so great, but the Field Museum, The Planetarium, and the Shedd Aquarium are all located on the same stretch of field and are easy walking distance. If anyone has the time or inclination, all are great things to see. There would be worse ways to spend your time than sparking a jay and then checking out the Aquarium before the show. If you believe in that sort of thing. Which I do. At any rate, it looks like it will be a beautiful night for the tour finale!

Doubt it...it's 89 today and the 10 day forcast for next week looks in the 60-70s. We should be ok. ;)

Are we talking meet ups for both shows?
I was going to start a thread like this ...y'all beat me to it. Green Mill is a great joint, one of Capone's old spots. Wednesday's they have Alfonso Pontechelli (awesome jazz) but the Mill is tiny and if people are looking to "talk" it would be hard. Im sure we can find a dive bar in the area to all regroup. The only thing I really can think of is just having the BBMB peeps meet outside right in front of the Riv after the show...thoughts? Assuming the group will catch on and we'll all look like big nerds asking ..."BBMB?"

I'll be there with Sarky aka Dorothy Wood and SkinnybutPhat. See below for pic!

Some other ideas around the Riv...
1) The Kinetic Playground (on the other side of the train tracks at Lawrence) is okay and usually hosts all types of music. They've got a good bar, too.
2) If people want a lounge option, there is one at the corner of Lawrence and Broadway, and another that is also a sushi restaurant just south of the Borders on Broadway (within plain view of the Riv). Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of either.
Also, a word of warning about the taqueria next to the Riv. I had a pretty bad gastro experience there once. Eat at your own risk.

However, my schedule looks more conductive to meet up for the Northerly Island show. There is a great bar at 11th and Wabash (around the corner from the train stop [Roosevelt for you out-of-towners]), but again, I can't remember the name. Damn this short-term memory loss!!

Can anybody recommend any other South Loop options? Anyone? Beastiegirl?

I was thinking Grace O'Malleys for Thursday after / before the show. It's on Michigan Ave. at 14th and it's walkable to Northerly Island.

high of 69 - low of 50. Northerly is on the lake, I say it'll be around 45 degrees!

UMMM.. I was born and raised on the South side of Chicago.. I think I qualify as "local". I love the cold. Im just saying - I think that day is going to be the coldest it's been so far. Excuse the hell outta me for living - sheesh...

I'll be at the riv show, looking fly in my 3 piece...

wherever we meet afterwards like make sure we stay close to the area, so people can use the public transpo to get where they need to.

i vote for the Green Mill, but talking might be an issue, they are big on silence there... so maybe somewhere else?

either way, we can always meet up out front after.

but if you're there, i'll see you down front. i plan on lining up as close to 6 as possible.
