yeah, I really don't care how many of you whine "who cares" about the Britney spears VMA thing. there is a bigger issue here and I am curious about people's opinions on this.
Was it fair? Did Spears, lest we forget a mother of two, deserve to be held up against the standard of her once fantastically toned abs, sculpted by sessions of 1,000 tummy crunches? Or was she asking for it by choosing that unforgiving black-sequined bikini?

I think she looks pretty good for having had two babies...but I think she should have chosen a differnt outfit. I would wager that she's acutally skinnier than most people in america, and were's bashing her for being fat. shit is stupid.

So, she'd probably look just fine on a beach, but this is a whole different thing, so it invites at least a cocked eyebrow. Then, I understand, she was just slogging her way through whatever she did, so the criticism is inevitably going to grow exponentially.

I didn't see any "fat". Her performance was awful, yeah. But she looked pretty damn good.
I really don't see how she was "out of shape", either. She looked HEALTHY, just not tone. Abs are gross anyway.

my thoughts are the same. Weird that people said OMG fat though. But at the same time, she is an entertainer. The general thoughts/standard for that type of position in regards to fitness is high. Not to say that it's fair or something written in stone but I guess it's what people expect.

She looked good but she could have hired a personal trainer before such a huge performance. Come on---her new CD comes out soon and all eyes were on her. She could have resisted going out until 5 am the night before the performance. She is a just a misguided Louisiana hillbilly. It is hard for me to feel sorry for her----she is just a run of the mill multi-millionaire with problems. She is just an idiotic slob.

yup. this was her bid for a major comeback. she's not fat, but with the knowledge that she was going to open the show, and that this would basically make or break her career, she should have either worked out a hell of a lot more, or chosen a completely different outfit.
as for her "performance," she didn't even really dance- she kind of sluggishly walked across the stage- and she barely lipsynched. she looked like she didn't even care that her career depended on this. she fucked up, big time. her career is over.

Hah, holy shit. Britney freaks are freaky. She should have covered herself up a little bit or, well, NOT LIPSYNCHED. I'd understand if she was dancing around all crazy but it just comes off as lazy. I find it hard to have alot of sympathy for someone who has access to money and rehab and trainers and shit. Apparently someone suggested she wear a corset with the outfit, but she refused. So she's asking for it.
Admittedly it's hard for her - she was a teenager with a teenager's body when she became a superstar, and babies or no, people don't retain their lithe 16-year old frames throughout their 20's/30's and beyond, so people are comparing her to a now unattainable standard.
What shits me though is it's her job to look good. She gets paid to stay in shape, look presentable, and occasionally sing and dance. Celebrity now is more about image cultivation than actual talent, so if you can't get that right you're fucked and probably deserve the criticism.
So I don't think it's that harsh at all to call her fat etc. She is too fat, for a superstar who was made famous for her body/dancing.

I agree, with everything except that last sentence. If she pulled her shit together, quit appearing in tabloids looking half in the bag, became a somewhat responsible mom, and then did another Barbara Walters or Oprah in a few years looking someone normal, and if she ate shit and said "what the fuck was I thinking?" she could have a career again.
