Please suggest a gamut of "End of the World" movies

I want to watch tragic End of the World movies with horrific or downbeat endings (maybe two back to back) whilst having a freshly made cocktail this Friday.

Please suggest some that I may like.

Movies of this genre I've seen and enjoy:

War of the Worlds
Dawn of the Dead etc...
28 days later
Terminator 1

Movies I dislike:
Independence Day
Deep Impact

And all that big flashy hollywood oh-please-wont-a-brave-band-of-heroes-rescue-us-happy-ending kinda shit.

I want building evacuated and all sorts of social mayhem etc. No comedies or heartwarming stuff I'm not in that kinda mood. Also no black and white, I have no patience for that I'll fall asleep. Please help a brother out,

I'm having a hard time thinking of movies combining these elements:

good+lots of destruction+end of the world.


Like, I haven't seen The Day After Tomorrow, but I hear it's bad. Armageddeon, as you know, was awful. Signs is okay but really flawed
plus you don't see a lot of destruction. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 version) is terrific, but, again -- not a lot of destruction
and not exactly "end of the world." WaterWorld is supposed to be awful. Road Warrior is great with lots of destruction, but not really "end of
the world" since it's kind of a survival movie.

Hmmm.

Kind of interesting that there really hasn't been a great end of the world movie yet. You'd think it'd be out there. Maybe they're just too
expensive to do well.

it's a total 80's B-movie, but I love Night of the Comet.

I took your advice and picked up World War Z. I am reading Cell right now which is actually pretty entertaining. End of the world and zombie type deal.

I'm surprised my mind isn't more warped than it already is considering the books I read and these movies. Then again, I have weird dreams that tie in to shit like this sooooo.

You know all the people I talk to about NES say the same thing, that after seeing the movie they thought in some way it would happen to them. A guy at work just yesterday was telling me that he thought when he was 7 that'd he'd find a book and it would be his "neverending story" It was sweet. Why do they have to kill everything with sequils though?
