Okay so I know the boys arnt gay, BUT, I went to Boys town in downtown Chicago yesterday, (Boystown = Gayville) and first I was in a shop called Beatnicks (aka drag queen heaven) and they're playing Professor Booty. So I thought, Okay this is weird, (I mean, who plays professor booty of all songs?) but I dismissed it.
I walked two stores over, and they were playing Hey ladies in this sex shop.
Later that day we wandered into this other sex shop and they were playing Intergalactic. (Im not some weirdo perv although it may sound like it - Boys town is pretty much nothing but sex shops/gay oriented shops (Like 'Gaymart'!!) so we stopped in a few of them.)
Later that day I went into an old school thrift shop and they had an old school/vintage Bboys poster. (Which I bought) And on our way home, right as we drove off, they played an add for the upcoming Chi Town concert.

Coincidence or conspiracy?

lol.

I dont mind at all that they played them. I love meh homosexuals (obviously) and I love my bboys, and I know the boys are all about diversity, so I did not mind at all, I just found it to be super weird. I figure they play them because they have a funky sound to their music. It could possibly be due to the concerts, but Im almost sure that everything was being played on tapes/cd's because the songs were unedited and the songs after/before were not bboys.

But I've never heard so much bboys being played in a bunch of different places in my life.

The Boys are SO lucky they didn't call their album that haha. That would not have been the making of a classic.

my question is why you were in the gay section of town!

I doubt the shops you were in have their own DJ booth set up. So they probably pipe in their music from a satellite station or a local radio station.

Is Q101 doing a good job of promoting the concert?

I was in the gay part of town because I am extreamly gay-friendly? I guess. Two out of the three people I went with were gay, and I love gay people. I love drag queens, etc. I fit right in despite my gender and sexuality.

And im pretty sure they wernt listening to the radio. Like I said they played Professor Booty and im positive they dont play that on the radio. Not to mention there were no commercials.. soo...

And i dont listen to Q101 so I dunno how they're doing with promotion. Im pretty sure the channel we had on when I heard the promo was Q101 though, so.. maybe they are?

Your story is both hilarious and thought-provoking.

They do love their hip hop in Boys Town shops, especially that of the easy-to-dance-to 80's / 90's variety that sparks nostalgia in the mind of an aging queen. But that still doesn't explain 3 songs from different albums in one day.

Nor does it surprise me that a song called Professor Booty would make the unspoken gay charts. Still, that doesn't explain this inundation.

Then, yes, there's the show promo factor -- but you said it wasn't the radio, and I can hardly imagine any street teams have been canvasing along Halsted and Roscoe.

That only leaves one explanation: The Beastie Boys are gaining a gay following. I mean, it seems only right. Irony. Kitsch. Shtick. Personality. Great bodies. A beat. Ummmm . . . how'd it take so long?!

I read it on the internet, so it must be true! No, wait. I don't believe you at all!! Okay, well that sounds like a funny story. Almost too funny to just be a coincidence.

Awe, they're secretly gaining a gay following? I love the sounds of that! Boystown is the best place I've ever been in my life. There's nothing better in my opinion than resturants called "Nookies", really hot gay men in womens pants and midriff shirts trying on cute little jackets and proclaiming just how "fabulous" they are, and the beasties being played on the radio constantly. I should move there!!

I was extreamly jealous - I walked around the drag queen store cursing my gender and sexuality. How dare I not be a gay male!? If theres anyone who could pull off/wants to be a beyond fabulous drag queen - it is I.

Okay that made me sound really bad.... This isnt about me!!

Another wierd thing is, that I went to see a ballet, and they danced to Picture This, In 3's, Shambala, The Gala Event and I think there was one more, but I don't remeber.
