We are getting new flooring at the ole homestead.

We are definitely getting our first floor and stairs to the second floor all in hardwood. The second floor (one bedroom and "rec room") we are doing with carpet. The third floor (a fairly large bedroom) is where we are not sure what to do.

We only plan on staying for another year or two in this house so we want to do these upgrades for re-sale value once the market picks up again.

Anyways, we wanted to do the third floor in hardwood, but thinking about resale, we aren't sure if many people want hardwood in their bedroom, in a "starter house".

So what do you all think? If you were to buy a house, not something you are going to be in for the rest of your life, but for 4 or 5 years, would you be willing to pay a little extra for hardwood or would you just prefer some carpet on the third floor that is one large bedroom?

I would go with Berber carpet in the bedroom. It is a nice durable carpet and who wants to wake up and put their feet on a cold wood floor?

I have had wood floors in my bedroom so it is not so bad. I love wood floors so you can't go wrong either way.

To me, wood floors = value.

I so strongly prefer wood floors I was *this* close to paying an extra $350/month rent to get it.

Yeah, man. Get the wood in the bedroom. If having hardwood in the bedroom bothers you, just buy a nice big rug. That's what I did, anyway. It kinda sucks waking up in the winter and putting your feet down onto freezing wood. The rug did the trick.

GET THAT EQUITY, SON!

I have heard that most people prefer carpet in the bedroom. The comfort and warmth of carpet on bare feet is the reason.

Most of the homes that we have been looking at that have wood flooring thoughout the home have a carpeted master bedroom. Our house in Texas is ALL wood floors.

DIGI is correct that all this can be remedied by laying all wood floors and buy a nice big carpet.

hardwood floors in the bedroom mean that the bed will roll around during the sex if you have a bed frame with wheels...

I'm voting for hardwood floors all the way. Carpet sucks, man.

just do wood laminate.

Do it for your benefit and not solely on resale cuz the market will still be shit in 2 years.
