I never went to see Grindhouse, and I'm not sure if I should even bother with this, but a "full length" cut of Death Proof is on DVD... I dunno.
I'm vaguely curious about it but kind of feel like it might be a waste of time. Tarantino's shtick is getting kinda old...

This thread title is too long....it shoulda been something like "Death Proof, longer cut??"

This was the director's cut of the thread title.
Yes, they split up the two movies here (idiots), so we got the long version of Death Proof.
I saw it in the video store yesterday. I almost rented it but I decided to get Beyond the Gates instead. I think I will wait for Grindhouse.

What did you think?
I didn't go in thinking it would be a masterpiece, and I was correct.
I liked it for what it was though.
But I thought Planet Terror was better.

That tells me something. (y)
The story doesn't sound compelling at all, but I'm still curious to see what Tarantino did.

Harvey Weinstein is a fat moneygrabbing prick. Why should the UK have to miss out on the original version with the trailers and 70s style double feature and shit? If I see him in the street I'm definitely gonna knock him out. Actually, I don't know what he looks like so if I'm with someone who points him out to me in the street, then I'll hit him.
EDIT
Actually, maybe someone could post a picture? I don't know if my friends know what he looks like either. It's better to be sure.

The manipulation of the original intent, 2 movies with trailers between and now to hear an extended version is out of just the one....anyway this sort of "Fuck You" to the people who supported the original and would like to see it preserved as it was.... it totally pisses me off.
Why bother even having the theatrical release? Is the intent to milk as much money out of the product as possible? I'm baffled by the lameness of that.
I'm grouchy today.

I'm sure it would've gone out as Grindhouse internationally if it hadn't unexpectedly tanked over here. It tanked pretty hard, and I think the
Weinsteins just made a business decision: split the movie in two, pay for the new prints, and see if either movie could fly on its own.
I think the three-hour running time for a couple of shlocky movies probably kept a lot of people away.
I am sure they will eventually release it as it ran in the theater. Yes/No?
When is the one with Rose McGowen and her machine gun leg coming out?

On DVD?
Oct. 16 in the States.
I imagine releasing Grindhouse will depend on whether the individual DVDs do well enough to support it.
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Saga (I think it's called) comes out on DVD this December.

I agree on all fronts. I liked them, though the length was slightly prohibitive and I thought Death Proof had some serious pacing problems. There was one waaaaay too long "conversation" scene where the characters sit around and talk pop culture. You know that thing Tarantino does. So funny and almost natural in Pulp Fiction, sounds forced and stilted in Death Proof.
I still liked "Grindhouse" but I can't imagine watching a longer version of Death Proof. I thought the first version was too long.

Planet Terror was WAY better. I cant stand Terintino (Dont kill me!)
Death Proof sucked! I sat there for at least a half hour wondering if it took place in the 70's or not. (Appearently I did not notice the Ipod's and such...) If I had to sit through a LONGER version of Death Proof, I think I'd want to kill myself even more than the cinema version made me want to. (n)

i never saw Grindhouse in the theater so i don't know what was actually extended on the Death Proof dvd. i rented it last night and came away totally unsure how i felt about it. the music used in the film was excellent. the story seemed to drag at times though. it was shot with the whole 70's low budget vibe which i thought was cool. i'll probably buy it at some point.

From what I understand, there's even more dialogue, you get the lap dance sequence (in Grindhouse, there was a jump because of a "missing reel," so you never saw that sequence), and there's some black and white bit where I guess you see Mike stalking his prey.

I bet it's just going to be even more dialogue about cars, and witty references to old car movies.

The Death Proof title sounds like one of those fake Seinfeld movies "Death Blow", etc.

It's a crappy title, yeah.
For a while, when all I knew was the title, I thought it was some sort of habeus corpus reference. Like "Proof of death."

....it's the version that edits all the material together into a roughly four-hour version. I think it played out of competition at Cannes.

That was the most disappointing film I have seen in ages. I'm fed up with Hollywood emasculating Men. And turning Snake Pilsken into half a fag didn't help matters. Is nothing sacred? Snake Pilsken would NOT get his ass kicked by girls. Wouldn't happen. He's let his boots do his talking for him.
Unbelievable Tripe. I wish I would have left the theater
Grindhouse was the polar opposite. I really got into that flick
Did you see the previews to Machete? Well that's going to be a straight to DVD release and it looks like it will be LAW

Grindhouse is the two movies put together. Planet Terror is what you're thinking of.

My Bad,
They played the movies separately here. The 1st week was Death Proof and the 2nd was Planet Terror. Planet Terror more than made up for Death Proof and I can't wait to see Machete (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machete_%28film%29)

Saw it. Not much to say.
6/10.
I also watched it over the weekend. I went in not expecting much and I was entertained. The dialogue was funny at times and Stuntman Mike made me laugh. I liked how Quentin doctored the film with hits and used jump cuts.
The movie sent me into Wikipedia to read about Grindhouse films.

I've read a lot of pissing and moaning about the dialogue, but I basically liked that stuff, too.
