I didn't see this posted anywhere.
"Jarvis Cocker, Lily Allen, and M.I.A. are all in the frame to lend vocals to a new Beastie Boys album, they have revealed.
The New York City rap legends are considering making a vocal version of The Mix-Up, this summer's instrumental-only release.
The trio of British acts have been approached about appearing on the project, explained Adam Yauch in a new interview.
"It would be kind of like a different version of the album, with a bunch of people guesting on it," Yauch said.
Confirming reports of the three possible collaborators, he continued: "It'll be interesting to see what they do with the stuff."
The Beastie Boys recently completed a brief European tour with a headline appearance at Bestival. Their North American dates conclude in Chicago."

I'm really glad to hear they're going ahead with this. I think it's an interesting direction they haven't yet taken. I especially look forward to the full-length video they claim are coming with the next disk. Imagine it's all a deadpan joke. This is what Yauch told Spin:
New York City's legendary rabble rousers the Beastie Boys are looking to remix the band's latest album, the instrumental opus The Mix-Up, and throw a few vocalists into the mix. Speaking to Billboard.com, Adam "MCA" Yauch said the band is "talking to some different artists who might kinda like remixes and put vocals on it, so it wouldn't be us doing vocals on it. It would be kind of like a different version of the album, with a bunch of people guesting on it." And so far the Beastie Boys have their sights set on a few impressive collaborators, including "a bunch of British people," such as M.I.A., Lily Allen and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker -- "It'll be interesting to see what they do with the stuff."
In addition, Yauch claims the Beastie Boys plan to incorporate a visual element to the forthcoming release with images from the band's tour taken with a Super 8 camera. "While we were in Singapore we filmed stuff, and in Australia and different places," Yauch said. "We're talking about cutting it together into a full-length film that kinda goes the length of the album."

Hmm, interesting. W/ the exception of M.I.A, these are not the vocalist I would have expected (I was crossing my fingers for Liz Frazier or PJ Harvey just to mix it up a bit-- unrealistic, I know).
I wonder if the email recently sent telling us to stop dressing like hobos for the gala has anything to do with this film?

Sweet!!!
M.I.A.'s new album is pretty good, i especially like the song with the Clash sample... i dont know the name of the song but its a sample from "straight to hell".
I REALLY hope that Lily Allen will be on it... She's fucking amazing.

longer version.
The Beastie Boys are moving ahead with plans for a vocal version of their latest album, the all-instrumental "The Mix-Up."
Adam "MCA" Yauch tells Billboard.com the trio is "talking to some different artists who might do kinda like remixes and put vocals on it, so it wouldn't be us doing vocals on it. It would be kind of like a different version of the album, with a bunch of people guesting on it."
Among those in the loop, according to Yauch, are M.I.A., Lily Allen and Pulp's Jarvis Cocker -- "a bunch of British people," Yauch notes with a laugh. "It'll be interesting to see what they do with the stuff."
That might not be the only outgrowth of the "The Mix-Up," which Yauch, Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz released in June. Yauch says the Beasties have an idea for a visual version of the album as well, incorporating images from the group's touring to support "The Mix-Up."
"We've been traveling with a Super 8 camera," he reports, "and a lot of times we'll just make something. While we were in Singapore we filmed stuff, and in Australia and different places. We're talking about cutting it together into a full-length film that kinda goes the length of the album."
Yauch says the group is enjoying the tour, which alternates standard Beasties performances with Gala Event shows during which the three Beasties and their cohorts play instruments throughout. "About half of it is instrumental and half of it has vocals, but it's all based around the instruments," Yauch explains. "And a lot of it is B-sides and album tracks. We're not doing as many of the singles. It's fun."
Yauch says there are no plans to document the tour with a live album or DVD. After the trek wraps Sept. 27 in Chicago, the Beasties plan to return to the studio. "We're gonna start recording again," says Yauch, who's also working on a documentary about high school basketball players and their journey to the NBA.
As for where the next Beasties album will go, he notes that, "We just kind of go in and mess around, see what happens. There's no plan or anything."

^ shewie! I was afraid that we had been hoodwinked ,and that the "new albumn" was the new vocal stuff. I need more then that. I'm already waiting for the next tour dates.

I'm not mad about the Beasties doing an album full of guests - hip hop albums have been a lousy swap shop of the latest flavour of the month MCs for about the last decade and the quality and consistency of the output has plummeted.
I've always liked the fact that the Beasties generally have quite a minimal input from guests and collaborators compared to these type of 'featuring.....' releases - at least I know I can expect something decent.
Besides which you can't expect artists to put their best material on other peoples albums - even the beasties put pretty forgettable 'guest' rhymes on other people's records on the few occasions that they've done this (if you disagree with me drop some quotes).
I like the fact that the Beasties (often) have quite a singular artistic vision and strength in their releases, and using a bunch of guests - especially on an album rebake - seems like a weak dilution of the formula to me - I want my shit uncut bro!
Not that I'm criticizing their collabos from the past (Biz Markie, Q-Tip, Lee Perry, MMM - legends in there own sphere) - and I've got no problem with a song co-created with MIA or Jarvis, but Lily Allen! SHIT! ( I guess they're not subjected to the full on media whitewash that she's pulling off in the UK and aren't aware of what great buddies (not) her and MIA are?)
Oh well, I'm disappointed.:(
I'm loving the Mix Up as it is - it don't need no cheap tinsle.
The big question is....will anyone buy the same album again?
I don't have a problem with lily. The track she did with common on his new album is probably the best track on it

The whole thing deserved to be a multi-format package. This staggered thinking only lends itself to bleeding money out of people's pockets. I'd rather pay bulk in one go for an instrumental, film and collaborative version of the album than be drip-fed full priced remakes of something that (while it did grow on me a bit) isn't really that flash in the first place.
Imagine if they had this idea in 2004. Fucking hell. Still, it could be good. But it smacks of marketing.
Edit: That sounded harsh. TMU has its place in rotation, for sure. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't playing it practically every day at one point.

I'd place more value on The Mix Up if they didn't feel the need to keep fucking with it.
While many will tow the party line, I think it's a bad idea.

I don't like the idea of guest vocals. But i'd still buy it.
I would be interested in some sort of DVD mini-movie kinda thing. Or if they decided to use TMU as one of the albums to chop up and loop some of their grooves and riffs and add other samples and beats and rhymes.

This is great! Come on now, it wont be the same, its actually beastie boys again doin somethin new, never done before in their career, and about spending money, if they released a cd every month with some new material id be more than glad to buy it!!!
This might be a step towards trip hop, which i think the boys could rule if they wanted, but trip hop is kind of a darker genre, cause of lyrics and the mood, and im actually glad they arent goin trip hop dark, keepin it positive and friendly instead (y) (y) :)

Smacktackle said it, it's the beasties doing some new shit that they haven't done before. This is always a good thing. The beasties have good taste and know what's fresh and what's not. I'm sure if tracks were to come back to them and they weren't poppin' off they'd be the first to axe it and forget the whole ordeal. If this thing ends up happening, there's no doubt in my mind it'll be because the boys themselves gave their personal stamp of approval as listenable shit. And I trust their ears.
And for those of you frettin' about Lily Allen; way back when this idea was first publicized (the whole guest remake of TMU), Mark Ronson was one of the first names tossed around, so I wouldn't be surprised if he would be the one remixing/re-producing a possibile Lily Allen TMU track, considering their history of working together. And for those of you who aren't familiar with his shit, well, lemme just tell ya it's off the hook.

There might be the Snoop track to consider too. But meh to the whole idea.
They're lucky we'd spend the money on pretty much anything with their name on it. I just feel like this might be taking it a bit far.

i would love the mix-up vocal album idea even more if yauch added his sultry voice to "freaky hijiki" (my favorite!)
or a namaste-esque spoken word over "the gala event". or both. :)
i'm just excited 'bout everything the beastie boys are up to right now. :D

I read a quote that the music being used could be as little as half a bar. If that's the case, it should be interesting. Them B-Boys should rhyme over a chopped-up Cousin of Death.

I actually liked Lily Allen's album a lot. She might be a loudmouthed brat, but at least her focus is on music and not being a sexual object. Her sense of humour is great too.

Man I'm really digging the whole "Mix-Up" title as being a literal statement for this era! Like they're mixing it up by giving us an all instrumental album, they're mixing it up by giving us a crazy cover artwork, they're mixing it up by doing one regular show and one gala show.......and now they're mixing it up by having a mix of all different singers, not to mention the possibility of the mix of video stuff. shit is brilliant... whether intentional or not.
