Hello, all. I'm a photographer in Chicago and desperately want to bring my camera to the Gala Event at the Riviera on Wednesday. There is no indication on the ticket as to whether cameras are allowed. Generally speaking, I know the Riv does not allow it. However, as in the case with some bands taping policy, this can occasionally be trumped. I *definitely* want to document all of the people representing and not dressed as hobos, yet I don't want my camera confiscated. Anybody know? I've poked around on the site, but can't find an indication...

Um, the Riv. most def has a no camera policy. They search you before you go in. I went there one time and the only way I got a camera in was I had a SUPER small, skinny camera and I stuck it into my shoe a while before they patted me down. If you're going with a woman I'd suggest you have her take a purse. Depending on what kind of camera you have (If you have a smaller one/disposable size) Have her take a box of (sorry this might be icky for you guy folks) tampons, and put the camera inside. (They have small boxes these days, so she could take it without having it look suspicious.)
And if you get it in after that just be careful with it. The bouncers are pretty cool, just dont do it right up in thier faces. Last time I was standing over to the side by the chick selling water a while into the concert, and she just let me flash away. It's pretty easy as long as you dont have the flash, but if the boys are gonna have strobes and funky shit like that I doubt anyone will notice anyways.

Um.. as for Northern.. Im pretty sure they dont have any policys. It's outside, and if its anything like the tweeter you can take piccies as much as you please.

Either way, I will see you at Northerly my man! :D(y)

I was at the Gala Event in NYC and it seemed like everybody had a digital camera there. and the ticket had no indication of whether it was ok or not.

i got a camera in at both shows in montreal

i dont know what kind "photographer" you are, but if you use a slr it might be a little bit harder

im a girl so i had this giant purse, so it was easy to hide it

gala event i had a point and shoot, got it in without trouble

arena show, i tried to bring my slr

i took of the lense, hid it in my makeup purse hah. they didnt find it
but the dude found my camera, but it had no lense on it. so i was like yea "no lense!" he was like oh alright!
then used it for like 5-6 songs but then they security got serious and were mad when i didnt stop taking pictures haha

anyways, good luck!

So, is it a Beastie Boy policy, or is it up to the venue? I didn't have any trouble with my camera at the NYC show, and I was front row, right in front of security. Guess I'll just have to test my luck in Chicago.

the beastie boys hate cameras!!! they tell the security staff to confiscate all cameras and destroy them!:D

i dont think its up to the band to decide

usualy press get 1 2 or 3 songs to shoot and then thats it
youre best of luck to get to shoot, ask the security guard if its okay to take pictures for the first 2 songs

not alot, but better than nothing

Question answered! I just recieved the email telling us to document the last 2 galas. So, no need to sneak in the cameras to the Riv(y)

you can also bring your camera to the show to record your arrival, hanging out at the show, leaving, driving home.....

At Brixton before the gig one of the head bouncer told everyone he saw with a camera not to use flash, because of AdRock's epilepsy.

you cant use the flash anywhere in big venues for any bands. epilepsy or not
its just a rule. even with a press pass
and a flash wont work anyway but people just dont get it
