huh? I'm having a hard time understanding how this made the news or why it's not immediately being thrown out as a frivolous lawsuit. (or why the guy thought filing it in the first place would really fight or makes any sort of credible statement about frivolous lawsuits) All parties involved obviously have waaayyy too much time on their hands...

God' apparently responds to lawsuit

By NATE JENKINS, Associated Press WriterThu Sep 20, 11:18 PM ET

A legislator who filed a lawsuit against God has gotten something he might not have expected: a response. One of two court filings from "God" came Wednesday under otherworldly circumstances, according to John Friend, clerk of the Douglas County District Court in Omaha.

"This one miraculously appeared on the counter. It just all of a sudden was here — poof!" Friend said.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha sued God last week, seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty for making terroristic threats, inspiring fear and causing "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

Chambers, a self-proclaimed agnostic who often criticizes Christians, said his filing was triggered by a federal lawsuit he considers frivolous. He said he's trying to makes the point that anybody can sue anybody.

Not so, says "God." His response argues that the defendant is immune from some earthly laws and the court lacks jurisdiction.

It adds that blaming God for human oppression and suffering misses an important point.

"I created man and woman with free will and next to the promise of immortal life, free will is my greatest gift to you," according to the response, as read by Friend.

There was no contact information on the filing, although St. Michael the Archangel is listed as a witness, Friend said.

A second response from "God" disputing Chambers' allegations lists a phone number for a Corpus Christi law office. A message left for that office was not immediately returned Thursday.

Attempts to reach Chambers by phone and at his Capitol office Thursday were unsuccessful.

the associated press does not kid my friend. I'd expect to see this on the onion or something.

and isn't it nice to know that legislators in Nebraska have so little to do that they have time to file lawsuits against higher beings? that's special.

OK I think you guys are missing the point of the original lawsuit, which is, in fact, to draw attention to the proliferation of frivolous lawsuits. See, it's irony. Get it?

I think you're all missing the big picture here. This dipshit is gonna be the catalyst for the second coming of God (cuz he can't miss court), which, last time I checked, means a little something called THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!

It might. What he (the legislator who filed the original suit) is doing is trying to get a judgement that can be used as a precedent for making a change to the existing state law, so that in the future there will be fewer opportunities for people to file ridiculous suits. Keep your eye on the ball, sparky.

sure, sure. but I guess I'm running on the mistaken assumtion that it's pretty easy to recognize a frivolous lawsuit to begin with and judges shouldn't have that much problem throwing them out of court in the first place. I guess Nebraka must have some pretty stupid cases in court that aint been thrown out. *shrugs*

Eh, it's one of those "wacky Wednesday" stories so I see why it made the cut. Sometimes you gotta have lighter news with all the other sickening shit that goes on in life.

I was surprised that the house on our freeway out here hasn't made the rounds everywhere... but maybe it's just not wacky enough. Anyway, here's a link for all of you who have no idea what I'm talking about... BAM (http://www.knbc.com/news/14122861/detail.html?rss=la&psp=news)!

I drove past this thing this morning. Someone slapped a "For Rent" sign on it, and I think that's pretty damn funny.

Bummer. They moved it. I bet I could have afforded that house on my own.

They moved it out of the lanes of traffic... it's still sitting alongside the freeway.

Check it (http://www.knbc.com/slideshow/news/14165775/detail.html).

Yeah right... that's prime real estate right there, good access to the freeways and it's right off of Barham Blvd. AND right next to Universal Studios.
