View Full Version : Why does Kanye get so much credit for the Daft Punk sample??

Ok, this has been bugging me for a while now. Why does Ye get so much credit for sampling Daft Punk? All of a sudden he's french inspired and going electronic on us. (He jacked the d.a.n.c.e. video too). I mean didn't Swizz Beatz do it first on "touch it" by Busta Rhymes? What bugs me is that he sampled Daft Punk in almost the exact same manner. What's next? Eminem rapping over a looped "around the world" produced by Dr. Dre??
Sorry for another Kanye/DP thread. I needed to get this off my chest.

Wait, hold on...DP appeared in the Stronger video, even had visiual credits of them on the single's cover....actually, I'd assume the music video would get more attention then him using DP samples.

Daft Punk is bigger than Kanye if that makes you feel better.Plus, he'll never be recognized as having one of the best live shows in history.
When did he jack D.A.N.C.E.?

He basically got the same guys to do his new video with t-pain, resulting in a video very similar to d.a.n.c.e.

I was reffering to his new video specifically with that comment.
As for my original post, the media and fans seem to think its revolutionary that he decided to sample daft punk, when he basically jacked the idea from swizz beatz (anyone remember 'touch it').

"Touch It" isn't exactly amazing use of a sample either.

It wasn't revolutionary, it wasn't a good song, and nobody cares if Technologic was sampled for the hook.
So no...nobody would've remembered Touch It if you hadn't brought it up because it was the worst single of Busta Rhymes' career so shut the fuck up.

****COLORS!!*****
Yeah, so can you hook us up with a link or something showing how crazy the rest of the world is going right now for kanye sampling daft punk? Cause I cant say I've noticed the hysteria you seem to be claiming. I have seen a lot of "ZOMG, KANYE RUINED DAFT PUNK" like he's killed them and removed all their music from the world or something.
I don't think anyone remembers that GAP commercial that they did a few years ago.

is it weird that i only heard the song you all are talking 10mins ago for the first time?
i'm a big daft punk fan, been so since 98, but one thing that really pisses me off is ppl who are all over their dicks. anyone who refers to them as musical geniuses or say that interstella 5555 is the best animated film of all time are cunts. i really hate that shit
also, in general i hate anything that's french

I have a hard time even taking a shit or attending a funeral without hearing about this Daft Punk sample. People simply will not shut the fuck up about it. Half the time when I get a moment where people aren't talking about it, Mr Films "Kanye West sampled Daft Punk Celebration" comes trumpeting down the block.

Its just a sample that was utilized in a great way. Thats why he gets credit. Shit, even Daft punk gave the dude credit so just deal with.
And people jizzing over the sample are just as lame as those hating Kanye for getting so much credit.

When did he jack D.A.N.C.E.?
Maybe worldwide...but I'm sure alot of urban areas never knew of Daft punk untill Kanye. So he helped them just as much as they helped him...I mean he always could have just recreated the sample himself too...it wouldn't have been that hard for him just to do that and still have a pretty decent song.
Same thing happening with Timbaland...alot of people in urban areas knew him (and some suburban thanks to his work with mainstream artist such as Jay-Z, etc.) but thanks to Justin Timberlake he is being heard by a whole new audiece for beats that he basically was doing (least the blueprint of his shit today) back in 1996.
And the jacking of D.A.N.C.E I think was more of a "fcuk you"/challege to MTV. Its still an original video concept for a hip-hop song.

There's always a fine line between borrowing and stealing, especially in music. Regardless, Kanye is a big baby when it comes to not winning MTV music video awards.
