Haven't seen much talk about the new Cronenberg movie here.

I thought it was good, overall. Some of the dialogue scenes with Naomi Watts' family was stiff, which was weird. I understood the stylization in History of Violence, but here it just seemed like Cronenberg didn't know how to shoot the scenes.

But anyway. Overall, the story was more interesting than I had expected it to be, and it was a good story. The cast was good, there was violence and some gore I hadn't quite seen before, and Viggo sure knows how to take a tattoo.

7/10.

I just saw this tonight.

I don't really rate Watts at all and her performance in this doesn't change that opinion. Mortensen, on the other hand, is very good. you can tell he takes acting extremely seriously.
the fight scene was pretty gruesome and not what I expected at all. I got the feeling that the thematic setting is not one that Croneberg is too familiar with so that may explain some possible deficiencies in a consistent style.

but overall I really enjoyed it. probably my second favourite film that I've seen this year.

8/10

Her role was pretty seriously underwritten, I think.

I just watched this tuesday morning. I thought it was pretty good, although I thought the violence was too comic and took away from the sophistication and seriousness of the content.

I ended up having a crush on the gay asshole drunkard pimp son though. :(

naomi was alright, I think she was just supposed to be a foil for viggo. she didn't have too much personality.
