View Full Version : Living in Limbo
We have been living in limbo since our move from Amarillo Texas. Our furnished apartment contract ends on November 7th (my wife's company is paying) and we have not received an offer on our house in Texas. Last night the suspense ended. We got a nice offer on our house that we accepted. Now, we are putting a contract on a house here in Richmond Va. We can now match the close dates and we will not have to move twice. We are very very excited. I am also a finalist for a very good job as a producer/director where I would create short form documentary programs. I will find out in the next couple of weeks about the job but the start date is in November. I was sweating because I was planning to go back to Texas and oversee the move and have everything moved to a rental house and into storage. The news of the contract was welcome news and we are elated. The new house is a very nice Colonial in a great neighborhood. It is empty so the quick close should not be a problem. We have our fingers crossed.
Sunday my wife and I celebrated our 7th year anniversary and it ended with great news.
Living in limbo was very stressful and the reality of having what amounted to 2 mortgages was not fun. Oh, well, the stress has been replaced by excitement. Nothing like cutting it close.
Congrats.(y)
I got a sweet head cold and had diarrhea all weekend. Yippie!

Sounds like everything's comin up Yeti! Good for you...
So far....tonight we are looking at the house here in Richmond. Hopefully we will like it the 2nd time and if we do they will accept the offer. Things are still in the works but it is looking good. With a house the deal is never done until the $ is in the bank. The offer we accepted is a cash offer so it looks real good on that front. I am burning up the phone lines with our realtor in Texas, our realtor here in Virginia and our mortgage lender. We are getting pre-approved so we can make a quick offer tonight if everything is copasetic.
I am very happy right now and that is a welcome change.

Good news (y)
I just got a call from our realtor in Texas. Everything is accepted and a go. This morning we countered for 5 grand even though the offer was good. It was 10 grand below our asking price which is good in today's market. They accepted our counter so we are golden. I can't believe we actually made money on the house after only about a year and a half. Now we can plant our feet and grow some roots.
Now, I just hope the house tonight is to our liking. About 3 months ago we took a look and liked the home. Now, the owners have dropped the price and moved out so it is sitting pretty.
Thanks for the regards. Hey, I am still happy.

Good for you! Sounds like you have an exciting job.
Just out of curiosity, how did you get into that line of work? Is it tough to make a living until you get a good position?
Well, I graduated with a Mass Communications degree in Broadcast Journalism. I minored in Psychology (I always said that was so I could get along with the talent). I started in a small market in Maryland then came back to the NBC affiliate in Richmond (I worked throughout college as a paid intern). I worked as a news photographer. I continued to get promoted until I was producing all the feature segments. I was hired by another company to produce and direct documentaries. I then took a sabbatical to write and care for my son. Now, that we are back to my old stomping grounds a good job as a producer/director popped up. I have worked with the head of the department so I am hopeful I will get the job. He sounds like I will not have a problem because he likes my work.
It is great timing because my mother-in-law wants to watch our 1 year old son and the new job has great hours. 8:30 am-4:30 pm. The pay is very good and the benefits are great. I also get my own Avid editing equipment and camera. I will be producing indepth stories about the Richmond area. The programs will run from 30 to 45 minutes. They are cinema verite (in their words) pieces and some are narrated. I have to write, edit and shoot.

Wow, that sounds like such a cool job. Its funny, when you're in school and you're thinking about your career path, it never occurs to you that there are jobs like that out there. You think director/producer and it seems like big time Hollywood is the only option. And the odds of being successful are so slim. But there are other avenues.
Anyway, kudos to you.

There are many avenues in the field of broadcasting and media. I know that I read about a fellow BBMB member that owns his own production company. I think the name was Mr Wolf Productions.

Better than the opposite -- that'd be oblivion, right?
Good news and all that. The next round of apple juice is on me.
