“No Country for Old Men” by Cormac Mccarthy

“Shake Hands With the Devil” by Romeo Dallaire

“Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer

All 3 movies look good and all 3 books are pretty damn good.....any others you can think of???

Going to see a movie of a book you like will most of the time make you disappointed in some way. At least that's how it works for me.

People should actually stay away from that movie.

I'm going to see No Country for Old Men before I read it. Oddly enough, I don't want to spoil the movie.

“Perfume: The Story of a Murderer”….yes, I won’t rent it until I’ve read it…..Hitchhikers was so disappointing might as well stick with the BBC radio play’s……you know "JAWS" is probably the most faithful translation of book to film ever done......oh...."Even Cowgirls get The Blues" and "Bonfire of the Vanity's"....are classic examples of bad translations....

I read Perfume which I very much enjoyed but haven't seen the film. I am intrigued to know what it looks like.

i'm reading atonement at the mo for my book group. i would quite like to see the film just to see how they do things... even though pouty keira knightly is somewhat irritating!

one film i remember doing justice to the book was A Room With a View. I loved helena bc as miss honeychurch.

The BBC version of Pride and Prejudice did a pretty good job.

From Hell, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Watchmen. Ok, you can skip the movies alltogether...

I can understand why Moore seperated himself from the film version of "V for Vendetta"....I think after "League of Extraordinary Gentleman" I’d be pretty damned wary of celluloid interpretatio....I wonder when they start a 'Y: The Last Man" series?....."Sin City" maybe the ultimate in direct translation, storyboard for storyboard, line for line....so fine....can't wait for 2nd part..."300" took some liberty and added material that was just not in the book.....

I am so excited for Into the Wild. I have loved Emile since The Girl Next Door. I don't care what anyone says, he rocked that part. It was a nothing, one note, 1-D teen sex comedy but he made a real character.

He's going to be great.

I'm thinking this will be a HUGE picture for Sean Penn....I can't wait myself.....(y)

"Into to Thin Air" is a great read as well......

A Clockwork Orange, OBVIOUSLY. Can't believe none of you cunts said that already.

And Casino Royale is a wonderful book, the film not so much.

And yeah, definitely Hitchhiker's Guide. Those books are genius, the film is a bit wack.

I have a fucking gorgeous version of clockwork orange in print, the cover artwork is awesome.

I watched Perfume last week and its quite the fucked up affair, the ending was just like, whoah.

I actually equally enjoyed the feature movie length version of pride and prejudice with kiera knightly, I own it even. but im a sucker for shit like that.

Im curious to see how shake hands with the devil, and into the wild turn out.

I hope they dont water down the romeo dallaire story. I found there was no showing of the true gore of the situation in Hotel Rwanda, so hopefully this movie will allow the general public another glance at what actually happened.

And Im not sure how I'll feel about "into the wild". When I read it I think i was on the side of the fence that considered McCandless an idiot for doing what he did. It has been awhile since I read it but I recall that he had good ideas but they didnt manifest themselves through his behavior very well. though I related to the hermit in him. I dunno, we shall see. From the previews though it looks like a pretty straight forward glamorization of what happened. who knows though.

Dallaire was on CBC "Sunday" and the version looks painfully accurate....Roy Dupois actually had a breakdown during re-enactments on the set…..the film version includes all Dallaire’s blemishes including the drug, drink and the razor cutting of himself in order to feel…..plus it’s actually shot in Rwanda...saw "Into the Wild" this weekend,it's great, you feel the wonder, freedom, hope and ultimately the futility of it all.....Vedder soundtrack compliments, screenplay to the "T".....(y)

I read an interview in which Penn talked about how the parents basically gave him the freedom to do a kind of warty portrayal. And I understand
there's at least one clear-eyed character in the movie who calls him on his bullshit.

"The Virgin Suicides" by Jeffrey Eugenides
Sofia Coppola actually did a great adaptation of it...which is why you shoud read it first so you can see how well she nailed it.

oh and of course you should read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas before seeing the movie. the movie is fun, but it does not make up for hunter's brilliant prose and story telling.

Remains of the Day was all right.

I was one of about two people who didn't think Bonfire was a bad movie. I've never seen it since, though, so who knows.

Just thought of "Everything is Illuminated" as a film is a travesty, none of the humour comes across at all......I kinda liked "Les Miserables" the movie all though I could be ripped to shreds on that call....:D

The Exorcist .... the ending is much more eloquent and skillful
Red Dragon .... definitely before Manhunter, as the movie "Red Dragon" stuck closer to the book
Watchmen....assuming that the movie wont be nearly as complete as the book.
