lets have a moment of silence for old school metallica :(
listening to one at this moment
ohhh i'll join in this silence for sure. their latest tour involved playing the whole of MOP live for it's 20 anniversary of it's release. they even played orion in whole - they've never played orion in whole since cliff died.
i know it won't mean much but rick rubin is producing their new album, i'm sure some of us must of heard that already but, he has been telling the group they must go back to the thinking process they used when making MOP otherwise there's no point making another record - he said that according to Trujillo in a newish interview. the band has even talked about how they make Hetfield's voice....somewhat like it used to be before black album.

Is "One" old school Metallica? I thought we'd be talking Master of Puppets or Kill 'em All or something.
Man, I haven't heard them in years.

i guess it's everything before the black album
I'm not sure I like One anymore. I always seem to skip it when listening to Justice.
But yeah.....i'd say anything pre black album is considered old school. and anything with cliff is considered old sKool.

i actually like the black album. you just can't listen to it expecting metallica. you have to listen to it as if it's an entirely different band. but everything after the black album is kinda embarrassing.

I'd have to consider the black album old school. It came out in the early 90's, almost or more than 15 years ago. I didn't mind a few songs off of it, I hated enter sandman... I hardly listened to it when my friends and I were cruising in my car. I did have a nice sex session with a fine lady while listening to So Close.
And Justice for All was a good change for them and if they would have kept that change, I would still be a hardcore Metallica fan. I liked the losing 15 percent of distortion, the whole tightening of the skins on Lars' set. It was a very fresh thing back then.
All in all though, my favorite song would have to be Sanitarium.

i think the band hated and justice for all as it was extremely difficult to perform live. that's why they slowed it down and went a little blusey on the black album.

replace 'band' with 'Lars' and this statement is true.
Kirk and James have no problems playing some songs of AJFA, but Lars... hahaha he tries.
every song off it is just too long to be performed live... one, blackened and dyer's eve are the only songs they'd perform live nowadays.
having said that, on their latest tour, they played AJFA (the song) in whole. they got vids on youtube; poor quality but the playing is very good. Lars ever seemed to put in some effort.
