The show was freakin' Awesome!!!!!!
Only problem was Security took my video camera.
I videotaped my pre-concert warm-up along with some footage of the live show.
I couldn't have been feeling better.
While I was videotaping my brother and I during Jimmy James I got my camera confiscated by security.
I don't understand why we were told we could videotape our Gala story and then I get my camera confiscated by security.
I live and breathe the Beastie Boys.
The concert was soooo freaking sweet!
I wish I could get my camera back to watch the footage.
Mike D, you were AWESOME!
THANKS for the great show!

That is some whack shit there, my friend.

I talked to Laver a few minutes ago but we got cut off in the middle of the conversation. Some highlights:

- Laver saw Jamie (cameraman) filming outside and talked to him. Jamie said the bboys were interested in hearing from the diehards on tour. He ended up interviewing Laver on camera for a few minutes.

- 4 dudes in blue lab coats filiming.

- Funky Boss, for the first time in 14 years I think they said. It wasn't on the setlist but they played it upon request.

- They also did an impromptu verse of High Plains Drifter upon request late in the show.

Amazing show. I was a few people back, but front and center.

Can we bring cameras tomorrow night? I was using my shitty cell phone camera all night...

I called The Riv before the show and was told that camcorders are allowed but not cameras. Seems really stupid.

BTW, I took the El and got off at Lawrence at around 7 - as I was crossing Broadway to get to The Riviera I realized, "Hey, wait, these guys look a lot like the...HOLY SHIT I'M WALKING BEHIND THE BEASTIE BOYS!" I was so close...but their gigantic bodyguard heard my buddy urging me to say hi or something and advised me not to. Anyway, Mike D and Adrock stopped at a bootleg tshirt saleswoman outside the theatre for a moment to check out the merchandise - they didn't seem too thrilled about it.

I'm a happy man and I'll see you fools tomorrow night.

yeah, weren't we allowed to bring the camera in to document our experience at the show? i was told to take my camera back to my car.
i recorded my pre- and post-concert experience, but nothing in between. :(

oh, well. at least the show was FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! my friend and i got our picture taken outside the riviera by one of the labcoat dudes, and we also got interviewed inside by another labcoat dude cause we went all out with our gala attires. :p

but thanks for a FANTASTIC show, guys! adrock is still super hot. damn.

That show blew me away! I feel bad for people who got stuck with cams -- Luckily I was warned ahead of time about by some friends who got in first, cause I'd wanted to shoot video with my Elph. I imagine it's due to flash photography concerns, but so many people shoot with still cams these days. Oh well.

Loved the labcoat camera guys!

'twas an awesome show!! Security didn't take my videocamera but told me to stop filming...I didn't see him until he got right up in the lens. I have pre-show preparation though. Being that I took the RedLine from state/lake (which i got lost finding) to lawrence, I had no choice but to hide my cameras between pants belt and boxers since security outfront said they weren't allowed (confusion)...it worked. I didn't take any pics though. There was an annoucement prior to Beastie Boys taking the stage that flash photography wasn't allowed due to filming.

It was just a random fan, I saw them interviewing him after the show outside, got a sweet pic of it too.

It wasn't the whole funky boss, not rehearsed or in its entirety. They just kinda jammed the main riff a little. It was still freakin sweet though! Its funny cause when someone yelled it out, Adrock said that they hadnt played it in fifteen years and that no one had ever requested it.

Amazing fuckin show. Alot of technical difficulties and flubs, but humility only magnifies the beasties' character, so that was very welcome. Figures that the night they go all out with the filming everything seems to go wrong. My favorite fiasco was when Fredo slammed a hole through his conga on the second hit of lighten up. Even Yauch cracked a smile for that one.

It seemed like a different guy after the show than the one on stage.

Oh the DRUM magazine? That would be the one and only Laver....really cool guy, nice to meet him, Izzy, Brother McDuff, etc.

The crowd was calm so I didn't need the crutches (left them at the hotel) for the sprained ankle, well until Sabotage I could have used them since it got rough there, I might bring them tonight since a lot of meatheads will be there. Big-ups to Laver for giving me a ride back to my hotel.

Mothafucka, that show spit hot shit all over my face. Damn they're nice. I'm dissapointed I didn't get to meet any board members. We got there just in time for the door opening. Shite! Security gave me a hard time too, but I finally convinced one that the boys requested it by email. I guess by then the word had gotten around because he said, "You can only use a videocamera, no still and no phone." I got some sick shots and am editing it before I submit. My pizza is ready. I'll report more later.

BTW, Minton, how do we get these to y'all? Do you need it as a DV cassette or on DVD?

My quick review-

Everyone says this about their concert, but this show was just off the fucking chain. High energy, great solos, tight performances- everything you could want from a BBoys show.

My evening started off as I was walking to the Riv from the train stop. I had my lady on my arm and as we were walking down the sidewalk I see this dude coming in the opposite direction, and after a few seconds I was like "Oh holy shit that's Adam Horovitz" so the best I could do as I passed him was to say

"Hey man looking forward to a good show tonight"

He smiled and mumbled something that I didn't catch because but that time I was passing a large curly Jew-fro and I said "And that must be Mike."

We turned around and realized that we had just passed Fredo as well. They were walking with some large imposing black security dudes, probably off to get a bite to eat.

So we got to the lineup in front of the venue and as were recovering from that whole encounter, I hear my girl saying "Um, Yauch. Yauch. Yauch!" and pointing to the street corner. Turns out MCA, Money Mark, and Mix Master Mike were heading off in the same direction. My girl waved and MCA was so polite he waved back, but I was ready this time with my camera and captured the moment:

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2435/img2464nc3.jpg

We met some really cool people in line for the show and the Oscilloscope guys took my picture in front of the Marquee and interviewed me a bit on camera. They asked me where I got my threads, and I told them the truth: my momma bought them for me on sale at Kohl's.

Then we figured out that they were shooting for a DVD. This was funny because me and my girl had been present for the Madison Square Garden show as well. It was kind of like "Damn can't we just go out to a concert without them making a movie out of it?" LOL

We were fortunate enough to get superb crowd position - just one person back from the barrier! We were surrounded by some very nice and friendly fans, almost everyone had dressed to impress, and there was a great vibe in the air. My girl quickly pointed out to me that Mix Master Mike's turntable setup was present on stage- this made me very excited. It was enough to be seeing the Beastie Boys in such an intimate way, but would we get treated to MMM as well?

And indeed we were. The boys took the stage - all the boys. MMM, Mike, the Adams, Fredo and Money Mark were all there. It was a magical evening. They opened with my favorite song from In Sounds From the Way Out- Son of Neckbone.

Some highlights of the show included:

-Yauch was playing the bass that got that weird wine commercial / extreme zoom in treatment in AIFST

http://img403.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2470wd9.jpg

-a Intergalactic fan-made robot costume guy came out in between songs and did a little popping and locking for the crowd. All the boys were amused. Adrock said "Freaking robots- they never want to get off the stage. Give a robot a microphone and you'll never get it back."

-Someone had a copy of the issue of Drum magazine with Mike D on the cover, and Adrock took it from the guy and displayed it for everyone to see. Then Mike D referred to his style of drumming as "butterfish" and Adrock introduced the next song as "Butterfish"

-Yauch smiled when he saw my fake mustache

-Mike D called me out when he complimented the people who dressed well that night

-I was the guy who requested Funky Boss. Adrock heard me and he seemed surprised. He said "We recorded that song like 15 years ago and not once has anyone requested it." So I was like "play it!" And he said no. But then Mike D laid in a drum groove and they sort of unsurely played about 20 seconds of the song. I don't know why no one has ever requested that song, I think it's a great song. It's the ringtone on my cellphone.

-MCA had his uncle and a bunch of the rest of his family in the crowd and he pointed them out up in the balcony. Some old dude in a white shirt stood up and waved and was laughing. Everyone cheered for them. It was really cute.

-Someone else in the crowd requested Boomin Granny. Adrock laughed and said that they didn't know how to play Boomin Granny. But not even 90 seconds after the request, Mix Master Mike had the sample of "Boomin Granny" and scratched on it a little. That guy is an alchemist of sound, let me tell you.

-At some point later in the show, Adrock pointed out the same robot dude up in the balcony, and the robot turned around and looked all around behind him, then realized that Adrock meant him and he started shaking his arms in the air like he was cheering. Really funny.

-Not really sure what this was all about, but before they did "So What'cha Want," Mix Master Mike came up to the front of the stage to Adrock's rig and they shot off a couple of those confetti party poppers. I was fortunate enough to capture the moment:

http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/6194/img2497md7.jpg

-Money Mark doing some righteous punk marching during the hardcore songs:

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/7003/img2494vr9.jpg

-Mix Master Mike sitting next to Mike's kit and pulling a face:

http://img234.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2475xr8.jpg

And finally, my last two decent pictures:

-Mike and Adam rocking out during the Maestro:

http://img61.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2477bl6.jpg

-Mike and Fredo rocking out during Heart Attack Man:

Thank you Beastie Boys, for rocking Chitown to the foundations.

are you sure that picture is of the maestro? shouldn't Adrock be playing his guitar. Maybe not- I can't remember how they have been doing it- I remember at hamerstein w/out MMM they had to do the screaming YEAH intro and only Yauch could do it without busting out laughing. Now that I think of it maybe they both were upstage without instruments for that. Seems like they shouldn't of been thou...

That was a magnificent recap. THAT is what it's all about at these shows. The interaction with the band made my Gala Event for sure. What a fun night. Wish I could have been in the Chi with y'all.

I had to laugh at the comment about the Beastie Boys wanting to hear from the die-hard fans though. We're not hard to find, LOL.

After all the interaction we had at the Gala Event in AC with everyone in the band, I feel like I know them well enough to have them over for Sunday morning coffee and Beatles Albums.

The Riv was awesome. I loved the venue, the intimacy, the people, the set list, the surprises, the light show, the robot, the fact that MMM was there, that we got to take video cameras in, their suit and accessory choices, their incredible energy, etc.

Charter One wasn't for me. I think they put on a good show, but the Riv was a climax and there's nothing that does it for your pum pum after a show like that.

Gotta say, I loved dressing up for this thing.

They apparently only hired Jamie to work the crowd Wednesday night. He's really good with fans so he could have collected more stories if he had been at other venues. It was probably something they thought of as the tour was winding down. It's not at all clear what they might be doing with the footage that was shot. I think there were more than four camera men. They seemed to be everywhere. :(

The security were confused by the camera rule. I never have a camera, but I discussed it with a few of the guards because I thought it was extremely unfair for security to tell fans they couldn't come in with cameras when the band had invited fans to bring them. Eventually, the security guards we were talking with decided that video cameras could come in but regular cameras could not. The idea was that cameras with a flash could ruin the footage being shot by the Beastie's crew.

You and are are opposites! :p I liked the Northerly show much more!

The Riviera was not a favorite Beasties show for me. I have to be honest -- I was disappointed with the set list (but then I'm not a fan of the new CD and it felt like they played the whole thing). I also thought that the venue and the security people at the venue were subpar. MMM was there, but I really miss hearing from him at the gala shows. It's not a Beastie show for me if MMM doesn't open the show.

I was impressed with the audience. I'll wager that they were more dressed up than at the other galas. They were also extremely well-behaved during the instrumental songs. The Beasties clearly did a good job of getting the word out that this was not the normal show. I'd have said that the audience was truly loving the instrumental songs, except that when they Beasties finally launched into some of the regular songs towards the end, you could feel the audience's adrenaline surge like they had been waiting to bust loose.

I missed the on-stage banter. I don't know why, but the Beasties don't chat as much when they're being filmed -- I noticed that at MSG as well. Mostly, I miss Yauch. I'm sure that he loves playing the bass, but when he plays bass all night, we don't get to hear his voice. Don't get me wrong -- Adrock is always on, but it's not as funny when the other two are stuck behind instruments. The band sounded great though, and they appear to be enjoying the new music.

The guy in the robot outfit deserves some recognition. Who is he/she??? I figured he was hired by the band, but apparently he was just a fan? He was dancing up the balcony for the last half of the night and he never stopped. As hot as it was in the building, he paid a high price for our entertainment.

Yeah, I'm a meathead. This was a good show, but not a great one. I prefer the hip hop shows. I'm really happy that the Beasties did hip hop shows as well as the gala ones this tour. And anytime you can see them in a smallish venue, it's worth doing.

A big highlight of this show for me was watching Laver from above as he was enjoying his favorite band in his hometown. :)

By the way, was this the first full show in the 2000s where they didn't perform Intergalactic?

Hahaha...glad I could be one of your highlights. :)

Going in, I would was guessing that I would prefer the "meathead" show over the Gala. And I guess that's still technically true. But being on the rail for the Gala made it an incredible experience.

The Maestro was the best song of the night for me. (y)

I just got home (NYC) last night after visiting Chicago for the last 2 shows. I wish I could compose an articulate post here about the events but my mind is still racing from what I just experienced. So, instead I’ll just tell ya what’s on my mind ;-)

I don’t know if I could pick a favorite out of the 3 shows I caught on this tour but I would have to say that at the Riv, I definitely felt apart of the party. I was front row and center on the rail. Mike D stuck his mic out about 4 inches from my face during Remote Control, Yauch made lots of eye contact, Adrock acted like he was going to fall off the stage on top of us during The Maestro(have a video of this if I can ever figure out how to resize it to post).

I love that it was so informal – there was so much interaction that it felt more like seeing a band in a neighborhood bar (a stellar band that is!). I mean, people shouting out request, Adrock coming over to grab Laver’s Drum magazine to show everyone. And when they tripped up on the lyrics more then once they just smirked or laughed it off.

This is the first time that I traveled for a show by myself, and I had no idea that I would end up meeting such incredibly cool people. Who knew that spending 6 hrs. waiting for a show (13 hrs. collectively for both shows) could be a highlight?!?! It was like my own personal Q&A with the BBMB vets. Laver was the ultimate host to us out-of-towners, from giving us advice on where to stay to getting us all back to our hotels after the show in his Beastie Shuttle. And what can I say about Facedownfall?! The guy travels and shows up for both shows with his freshly sprained ankle!!

OGDREDPOSKI – I think you’re the guy that helped me with my camera so that I could take pics without the flash – thanks!! Here are some of them:

Thanks for the props. Both shows were well worth leaving the crutches at my hotel room (probably did more damage but oh well). I wouldn't miss the shows for anything and was very glad to meet Laver, Izzy, Brother McDuff at the gala event and RazorBladeKiss at the regular show.

I took the L down to the Riv (as the locals would say)..it was a long hobbled walk from the hyatt to state/lake street station, Like Izzy said a huge thanks to Laver for getting us back to our destinations, a very nice gentlemen he is, I wasn't sure how I was going to make it back before he offered everyone a ride. Big ups to you again.

Oh thanks to my fellow BBMB board members for allowing me some space behind them near the rail even though I arrived late (for obvious reasons)...and clearing a space for me to hold onto too for both shows during Sabotage. I was a little envious watching you guys jump up and down in front me because I wanted to do it too. (the weekend before the sprain i was doing hardcore dances and climbing over peope for the sing-a-longs at the Murphy's Law show, so standing still really sucked but like someone mentioned it was chill seeing Laver going off on both nights.)

I'm a bit embarrased to admit but before the show I made a thank you note on powerpoint saying "Adrock, thanks for dedicating "Gratitude to my dog Macy(RIP) at V-Fest"...I rethought it during the show and crumpled it up into my pocket...then when Adrock handed the DRUM magazine back to Laver, I pulled it out and had some assistance unfolding it. He was confused at first as to what it said, then he quietly looked at me said "oh that was you...yeah yeah yeah"...I wasn't sure if he was sincere..maybe who knows. I didn't want a big audience so I'm glad he was crouched in front of us for a few moments and was hoping he would NOT mention it during the show and hope it was not recorded, Mike D and Yauch were bantering during this moment, Adam jumped right into the banter without missing a beat. (I've taken a lot of shit for the original dedication.)

Ha! I too was thinking Adrock was going to fall off the stage during "The Maestro". I noticed he was sporting the gray suede desert-treks...I had the black ones.

I took some video footage..30 seconds clips on this new camera I bought..mostly the beginning of the show. A security guard told me to stop filming though for whatever reason. The camcorder I bought looks more like a still camera so maybe that is why. I got a text from Laver this morning asking about the videos..for some reason I got audio and no video so when I get off work I will check that out and get a codec or whatever.

The Maestro has Yauch on guitar (maybe it's a bass tuned differently, but a stagehand always brings it out just before this song so I assume it's a guitar)
and Mike D and Adrock struttin' around the stage without instruments. This has been the arrangement since the CYH tour.
