I was there, front row, dead center. I know of four other members who were there, but I was wondering who else went and whatcha think of it?
I thought it was a freaking amazing show of course, I think everything they do is amazing. Not too rough, no pushing or anything (at least for me) until Sabotage when everyone in front of the pit started freaking out and pushing to get away from it. Cool ass people that I spent the night with, I will tell you that. I owe Laver big time. :o
Mike is a pimp - his captian suit is dope and the orange bath robe is tight. (y)
Horovitz really hates flip flops...
Yauch really does love his eye contact..
Amazing show.

Mic to Mic reported the UNITE substitutes as Riot Fight and Flute Loop. Who's right? Was Flute Loop performed?

New to the boards but I was there and it was great. NAyone know what song was played on the PA when the show was over. I never saw people after a show just hang out and dance for 10 minutes before like that. Great times

They did play Riot Fight. ...last night was BAD ASS! I was on the rail...little off to the right, in front of Adrock for those of you who were there. Loved all the schitck...loved all the Yacht talk...did anyone Google that song Mike D was talking about?

Awe you were prolly really close to me! You should have said something, it would be nice if we could get some big board meeting together. We kinda did last night, but it would have been better if all of us were together.

Lol I really cant choose which word is better - "bad ass" or "amazing". haha. I just wish it would have been longer. But dude! EGG RAID ON MOJO AND HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER! WTF?!?! Totally cool! Mike's still got his punk in him. That man is Captian sex in a bathrobe!!!

Yeah...Flute Loop was performed after Riot Fight.

One other slight modification to the printed setlist was the fact that MMM didn't perform an opener. He did his solo just before they came back for Intergalactic.

Other random thoughts...Hi-light songs for me were High Plains Drifter, Pass the Mic, and Super Disco Breakin', No Sleep.

IzzyNYC held up the big purple foam finger during Ch-check it Out.

Lots of nautical, captain, harbor talk. With the venue right on Lake Michigan, Mike renamed the area Mike D Harbor. During beginning pose of 3MCs it took on more of a "Mike Driving the Boat" theme.

I wish they would have included Rhymin' and Stealin' in the set...it would have played in nicely with the boat-talk.

Off the Grid seemed a lot tighter than at the Gala Show. That song was just amazing...

Horovitz picked up a flip-flop that landed on stage. He held it up and said, "What the fuck is this....a flip-flop? A fucking flip-flop" They continued on about the flip-flop for a couple of minutes.

The guys seemed to be in a great mood. Lots of banter...they looked like they were have a great time.

Props to facedownfall for hangin tough with the bum foot. He was truly bboy limpin'.

Horovitz said they'll be back in um...about a year and a half.

The afterparty was on Mike's boat. He's got a 110 footer.

Thank you, thank you. I knew you'd come through with what I couldnt remember.
I was wishing for some Hello Brooklyn, but I dug HPD instead.
Off the grid did seem kind of sloppy, but I was still digging it. I wished it was as powerful as it is on the CD because that song is just amazing to me, but it wasnt as good. It is increadible watching them play it. Its awesome watching them in the video, but live is... there are no words.
Horovitz really really hates flip flops... seriously, it was more of an angry rant than anything.. but im guessing you'd have to expect that people who dont get newsletters/post on the board/watch the DVD's, who just showed up because they like a few songs - wouldnt know about the "no flip flops/cargo shorts AT ALL" rule. He really really was not happy.
I second the motion of props to facedownfall. Cool ass guy for being a fighter and watchin out for my cuz. (y)

They didnt allow cameras inside!! :( I had to go hide mine under a riser outside, they said it wasnt even okay if you took the batteries out. Seriously.. I had my batteries and I hid them in my shoe, then asked the girl if it was okay if we had one without batteries and she could search me, my cousin, and her purse to make sure we dont have any... I had to run and hide it under this SEE THROUGH riser... and everyone saw me hide it. *slaps self on forehead* Im such a dumbass! haha I came back and my cousin told me everyone (like more than 30 people in our line) had seen where I put it so I was like "YA KNOW WHAT?! IF YOU WANT IT THAT BAD - TAKE IT. I DONT CARE!"

What the fuck... Im about to go in to see the bboys. Do I really care what happens to my camera? Not really!

I don't remember if I've ever posted here before (or even when I registered for here), but I went to the concert last night.

They were AMAZING! but the people I was standing by were assholes. I've never been around such unfriendly people in my life.

I was dancing having a good times and girl grabbed me by the belt and pulled me back. She was mad because I got in front of her. And she then lied to my face about pulling me back.

I let that slide because this was my first Beasties concert and I wanted to enjoy it, not get into a fight. so, whatever.

Then the same girl asks me to stop jumping up so much. I just said "no" and kept going.

Two guys almost killed each other because they were talking smack about each others girlfriends.

but yeah, the boys were amazing.

Oh word? I wasnt paying very much attention to what was going on outside of the stage, but Im sorry to hear about the people around you being assholes. The people behind me were COMPLETE assholes. It was ridiculous. I'd been there since 4 and these people come as the DJ is on and push thier way through the crowd to get to the front with this dude in a wheelchair. I have nothing against handicapped people, but they asked a few of us to move, and the asked me to move, where there was no where else for me to go (not to mention, sorry, but I wouldnt move if Christ himself came up and asked me for my damn spot on the bar.) So I said no, and they started calling me a bitch and talking all this shit about me.

I did see one guy get pulled over the bar and they escorted him out, holding his arms behind his back - also I saw two guys behind me like with one guy in a headlock or something (that might have been what you were talking about) but they didnt pull anyone out.

moldy tangerine
09-28-2007, 05:59 PM
it sucked, yeah, but I tried to make the best of it. If I didn't have such a good spot, I would have moved.

Oh well. I still had a good time. I wish I had enough money to go to the Gala show the night before.

I was talking with the two girls who requested HPD. They were nice. It was too bad the rest of crowd wasn't. Next time I'll make the crowd good. haha.

It was truly a beautiful night. Great weather on the lakefront. The boys were tight! I was about 20 feet in front of the sound board, so I could get my high-fidelity. I couldn't quite see MMM's mask...was it Boba Fett? From where I was, it looked like a modified Cylon mask.

It was an incredible perofrmance, but still....

-I was *really* looking forward to "Brass Monkey", "Rhymin' and Stealing", and/or a "Professor Booty." A little disapointed not to hear any of those. Also, not to take anything away from the encore, but "Unite" really would have been the proverbial shit. Sad to see they passed it up.

But those are all things I would have liked to have seen and not actually what went down. What went down was still pretty amazing in it's own right. Pretty f'ing amazing...
And, as far as I'm concerned, that will always be Mike D. Harbor!

I was in a seat and had a great time. The highlight for me was HPD - just by itself, worth the price of the ticket.

Don't forget about Mr. T. Towards the beginning of the show, the Beastie Boys saw a guy in the crowd dressed like Mr. T and talked to him for a few seconds. They made him raise his hand and show the crowd his pimp ring that took up like 3 fingers. That dude was dressed to impress!

Im pretty positive it was a Boba Fett mask. It was green with the bit of red in the middle. I'll get a picture and post it, the middle part lit up with red lights and blinked up and down.. it was tight as shit. (y) MMM looked like a total badass with it on. But you know, now that I look at it, it kinda seems like MMMs was altered a bit... that black middle section lit up.. but it looks the same. The eye part was bigger (I think) and it was shinier.. kinda like a storm trooper mask painted green and red?
Anyone wanna help me out?

There have been a couple of reports that the guys are headed straight back to the studio to begin work on their next album.

So I take Adrock's comments about being back in about a year and a half to mean that they plan to release another album and then tour. It doesn't appear there will be a long hiatus.

Mike D Harbor - I LOVE IT!!!!! He was dancing a lot?! I LOVE IT!!!! Oh you guys thanks for the reports. I'm so living vicariously through you all. I did find this pic (http://www.flickr.com/photos/scrapplequeen/1453312700/)this morning and was so excited that the cap'n came out for one last Mix-Up hurrah. Heheheh with the flip-flop. I bet Horovitz was so annoyed, they're always referring to TEVA sandals and Birkenstocks like they're the most offensive show attire on the planet.... I think flip-flops fall under that category.

^ well you know, they are very classy - well dressed men. I'd be pissed too if someone threw a haggard beat up old flip flop onto my stage. After all, they go through all that effort to look good for us, so I think it's appropriate that we look sharp for them. (as i contridict myself completley - but I like to think I am excluded from this because I came in my snazzy made with love - put an assload of time and effort into it - hoodie.)

Good thing they didn't find a flip flop at the Gala Event - they would have thrown all of us out!

There must be a DVD in the works; there seemed to be a lot of effort being put into filming the shows, especially the Gala Event.

RaZoRbLaDe KiSs

*crosses fingers and hopes you're right*

seriously.. I really really hope they use the Chicago footage (from both concerts) on a DVD or something, because it would be amazing to see it. Fuck i'll take the footage if they dont want it!

But a good source of mine tells me that the camera dude was just to get the shit on the big screen and he's nothing we should get too excited about. :( Then again, they did put a lot of effort into capturing the footage from the Gala events... soo you never know what'll happen with the Bboys and Nathanial Hornblower.... We can only hope.

*Bboy prayers!*

MMM's mask also made me think of Daft Punk, even though it was green and had tentacles or antenna -- I guess I associated it with Daft Punk because of MMM DJing up on a platform like them. :p

Mike did the dance where he waves his arms back and forth all night long, but I do miss Mike's signature dance from the 2004 tour.

I agree that Mike always looks sharp. It wasn't hot last night, but Mike doesn't take his suitcoat off even when it's unbearably hot. He does sweat though -- his suitcoat was visibly wet on Wednesday night. ;)

I was on the rail in front of MMM and I seem to remember the mask being brighter green, with two antenna -- more buglike.

I thought that the outfit you made was terrific. I hope that your cousin enjoyed the show.

This show was a really great way to end this tour. We got sooooo lucky with the weather. What a beautiful night it was. The crowd was so polite it was surreal -- I've never been at the rail before without getting squished (I had a hilarious encounter with a drunk though). I spoke with many nice people, including a few who had never seen a Beasties show before. They were all saying how much they enjoyed it and how great the band is -- it was fun to see things with their new eyes.

I think I'm still a bit buzzed. The band was loose and hilarious. All three of them were in top form. I was so skeptical of this venue before I got there, but the sound was great. I loved hearing my favorite songs this one last time. I prefer seeing the Beasties when they put down the instruments and work the whole stage. I like MMM being really involved in the show. There's something that happens to me when he starts his intro . . . .

I wish I could rewind the tape of this in my head and watch it again. For instance, there was this thing I saw a fellow crowd member do this his gum to Sabotage that was a classic concert moment.

^ Hmm, I am still wondering about MMM's mask - someone said it was a Volcon mask, but it doesnt REALLY look like it from what i've seen in pictures. I dont remember horns, I think I was more focased on the lights lol. But I am not 100% positive that it is a Boba Fett mask. It would be sweet if it was.

Yauch, care to elaborate? (In my dreams.... )

I will say that I really like him being closer to the boys and the stage. You're right when you say that he's more into the show from that spot. He was too far away all the way up on his big old riser for the pagent show - you know I love to see that cute little face of his. lol.

I loved Mike's dance. I thought it was so cute. I think everything he does is cute. I really need to stop this... Which sig. dance are you talking about, Documad?

Thanks for the compliment on my jacket! I hope eventually they'll get to see it! I plan on making more, so hopefully when the 08/09 show comes around i'll have more than just that one to choose from! lol.

You are right though - the crowd was extreamly nice and it was a great show. Like I said, I didnt get pushed once, and the sound was awesome. I remember at the Pagent tour I was squished between a million people, being thrown back and forth with the moshing (Which im glad Adam didnt have to stop this time) and I could barely hear what they were saying. This time around I heard everything crystal clear. Great show. The only thing that I really had a problem with was the security that night. They wernt the nicest of people.

No worries, maybe next time? The hiatus is still off according to Horovitz, so it shouldnt be that long.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica.

I remember it being bright green and very shiny/metallic with lights. I have a really clear picture in my head. The trouble is that I have an unreliable memory for things like this. :o It didn't look a cylon to me -- at least not from the current version of BSG. :p

RBK: I don't know if I can explain Mike's 2004-05 dance. We discussed it back then but I don't think we ever found it on video. He would pick up one arm and matching leg at the same time. I suck at explaining this stuff!

I keep using the word "amazing" but I really just can't recall a time that I was left with such a buzz from any show. I got to Charter One at 1p and was the first one there. One of the staff came up to me to make sure that I realized what time the show was. Funny thing is, I never minded the wait -- just looking at the venue thinking about what was about to go down.

A couple of hours later, some of the board members starting showing up and then fun time was back! (BTW - Razor's jacket she made is fantastic!) There ended up being 7 lines so I wasn't THE first person in the gate. In fact, I got to be the one to get the new girl with the scanner that wouldn't work. I just stood there watching dozens and dozens of ppl (who showed around 5p) run past me. But, once again, the fine folks of the board came through for me and I ended up back on the rail, center stage.

At one point before the show, I looked behind me to check out the stands, and Laver says "we are in the spot to have." I later realized that we didn't just have the best spot in the venue but the world. I know this sounds extremely dramatic but I honestly can't think of any other place in the world I would have rather of been that night.

Seeing Mike D in the wing jumping up and down in his Yacht suit before running out on stage....the full moon over Mike D's marina was a nice touch... Can not believe I got to hear them play HPD. I mean, seriously!?!!? Getting a laugh from Yauch for the foam finger during CCIO (thanks Lav!)... meeting Fredo.... Adrock's concern for the guy getting man handled out by security (told his guy to check it out).

Yauch did a lot more smiling and riffing w/the fellas then at Central Park. It seemed like he was taking it all in one last time. I also felt like Adrock was sincere when thanking us for traveling for them/ coming out/ being there "...and I love all of you... sure has been a fun summer"

We were hanging by the stage area after the show as people were making their way out when Laver points out Yauch on the stage. I went over there, not sure what exactly was going on. When I walked up, the girl next to me was saying something I couldn't really hear then "...but I've never talked to you before" he gave her a polite smile and head nod and then started to walk off, stop for a sec while someone passed him a CD. He said thanks, looked back us again, waved and walked off:

I just stood there watching dozens and dozens of ppl (who showed around 5p) run past me. But, once again, the fine folks of the board came through for me and I ended up back on the rail, center stage.

Thank you! I love that jacket, and im glad everyone else did too. I just wish the boys could have seen it. :( Im kinda shy (surprisingly) so I dont think I could have just been like YAUCH CHECK OUT MY JACKET!! when he came onstage post show. :( If anyone wants one/something like it, I'd be glad to hook them up! (I should post pictures... I'll do that soon.)

But that new girl - oh my god I thought I was going to cry. Seriously... If theres ever been a time in my life where I've been nervous - it was those 2 minutes that those 50 people were running past us. Im so thankful to M and you guys for saving a spot for me - honestly, It was one of the best nights of my life.

At one point before the show, I looked behind me to check out the stands, and Laver says "we are in the spot to have." I later realized that we didn't just have the best spot in the venue but the world. I know this sounds extremely dramatic but I honestly can't think of any other place in the world I would have rather of been that night.

we had amazing spots!! we had the best spots in the house - Christ almighty I had Mike RIGHT in front of me the entire night! I couldnt have asked for a better spot, or a better concert, or better people to hang with - not even if I wanted to!

I remember it being bright green and very shiny/metallic with lights. I have a really clear picture in my head. The trouble is that I have an unreliable memory for things like this. :o It didn't look a cylon to me -- at least not from the current version of BSG. :p

See, this is why I just assumed it was a Boba Fett mask - because I too remember it being green with the orange in the middle, and then the mouth section that lit up, but it looks like a modified version of it.

RBK: I don't know if I can explain Mike's 2004-05 dance. We discussed it back then but I don't think we ever found it on video. He would pick up one arm and matching leg at the same time. I suck at explaining this stuff!

I remember it now that you're talking about it... I've seen it but I cant quite remember where he's done it - the only place that comes to mind right now is in the mirror/dubuffet shots of Alive.

Say, can anyone help me out?

Yauch came back out onstage and talked to fans after the show. Were any of you there when he came out? How/why did that happen? What went down? I only saw enough to know that it happened and I couldn't hear anything.

I walked over just before he left. I asked him where the afterparty was and he said it was on Mike's boat. And then he kinda waved to everyone and strolled back off the stage.

They did play Riot Fight. ...last night was BAD ASS! I was on the rail...little off to the right, in front of Adrock for those of you who were there. Loved all the schitck...loved all the Yacht talk...did anyone Google that song Mike D was talking about?

I think I might have been next to you. Were you there with your sister?

I went to both shows. It was a long time coming. I've been all over the boards for quite some time but this is my first time posting. The show at the Riv was nuts and going into the show the next night I thought there was no way they could duplicate. I was wrong. I gotta give props to the BBoys for making those the best two days I can remember. MMM tore it up at Northerly. The only thing I wanted to hear was "lookin down the barrel of a gun" But I cant get too greedy. You better believe i'll be back in a year and a half. That was just nuts.

Gotcha...I was wearing a blue sweat jacket (no hoodie). I was with a girl. To my left were the two girls who I guess were sisters.

Yeah, are you seriously THE robot? If so, how did you walk up the stairs at the Riviera without falling down?

drizl
10-06-2007, 08:03 AM
haha...yeah, i almost fell several times that night. the shoeboxes werent the best idea. the second night i just stuffed them with newspaper and shit so they would stay tight on my feet. the walk up the stairs was tough...everywhere i tried to slip through my antennas were getting caught up in the door jam. but the walk down was interesting when the security guard suggested it was easier to go at it backwards...not to mention that i felt like my knees were going to give way because i just got off stage with the beastieboys!
i still cant get over that night. im glad i went as the robot and all, but after a while, i couldnt take it! that box was fucking hot. i could barely breathe in that thing. and i woke up that morning sick as a dog as luck would have it.

heres a run down of my night-

i was late. traffic on 90 was a whore. i got to my buddy bobo's house up in whicker park at about 745 (i think the show started at 8 right?) anyways, we hopped in the car and took off. a lamborghini cut me off on the way. his license plate was "rimjob" haha. we got to the riv and found a good parking spot, suited up and i dropped my ticket while walking to the door, trying to get a feel for the robot suit. bobo had to run back and look for it and did a good job of scaring the shit out of me. but he had it and i was relieved. secuirty looked at me and the dude said "nawww man, what the fucks up wit dis shhhyittttt. go on thru." we walked in on son of a neckbone. bobo wanted a beer, but i couldnt wait to get in...so i bobbled in and found a spot right of stage up front.
i realized i couldnt move much, so i developed some robot dance techniques to suit the music. everyone i ran into wanted a picture (which got a little old, but i understood, it was the fucking robot and we were at a gala event). i was looking up stage when i realized adrock spotted me and laughed. i was stoked. shortly there after, one of the tour guys, the one with the bright red hair came up behind me and pulled me aside. i thought i was being asked to take off the robot suit, or was being kicked out or something shitty like that. then he asked me if i could walk up the stairs. seemed like an odd question. i said sure. and followed him backstage. he said something to the effect of your going on stage, and i just about made a robot shit. so there i was standing backstage and everything was surreal...i saw the crowd, the bboys, mmm, money mark was right there and i just smiled and laughed. i probably looked like a goof just standing there in disbelief for a few seconds. i couldnt believe what was happening!
i saw mca look over at me and start laughing as i walked out on stage. i didnt know what to do! i really dont remember much, though i have seen a video posted by someone on youtube. i remember walking over to adrock and telling him " i fucking love you guys". then i said it again, and maybe one more time. i think it freaked him out a little. i bumped and stomped and bobbled a little. i saw the crowd and all these people taking pictures and i had this urge to jump in and crowd surf...but i didnt. i should have though.

adrock kicked me off stage. told me to "moonwalk on out of here". haha. so i tried, but the shoeboxes wouldnt let me. so i went back out to the crowd and tried to find a good spot. now everyone wanted a fucking picture. i met osama bin laden down low and in the back, we yoddled a bit. all the sudden everyone wanted to feed the robot beer and several joints got pushed up through my screen. i think about 80 percent of all beer poured through my robot mouth just ran down my face and down into the robot costume. i couldnt breathe very well, because i was sick, and so i couldnt really smell. but i probably smelled like a drunk sick bastard sweating inside of a box by the end of the night. sorry to anyone who had to deal with my stench.

i met some really cool peeps. it was such a good vibe in the show. everywhere i went people were stoked to see me...so the whole picture thing was offset by all the good vibes. there were a couple of doorknobs who were fucking with me...i was quite vulnerable with no peripheral vision and little to no range of motion. i think someone through a beer at me. was that a beer?

anways, i found a good spot at the edge of the balcony. i always love those spots because you get to look over at the crowd below and you're still close to the stage and have an unobstructed view. so i was bouncing around up there, and security was nice to me and let me stay in the isle, which was a firelane. adrock said a few things after a couple of songs. and i saw yauch cracking up again during one of the instrumentals. then all of the suddent adrock called me out and i felt like a spot light was on me, though im not sure. so i busted out some robot dance technique and through a banana down into the crowd. adrock said something like "oh look, hes got a banana! where did he get that from? up, there it goes!" someone caught that banana, which i was going to eat, but i didnt know what else to do at that moment, so i hope they enjoyed it. it would have been hard to eat it with the box on anyways.

the rest of the show was amazing. the music sounded good, the classy vibe was right on, and i realized how much i love this band- how much they have changed and evolved, and seeing them fuck around on stage is hilarious. i got an interview with the labcoats afterwards and challenged the bboys to a 3 on 3 roundball tourny. i hope they get it. im serious.

the rest of the night was drunken, drowsiness and i ended up just heading back to my place and crashing. i drank about a gallon of honey and lemon juice- i think i manually juiced about 13 lemons- which is a lot of work for a drunk robot. i remember being so fucking tired that i fell into my bed and passed out in no time....one down and one to go!

everyone had a great time! I am sorry to say I did not SEE your costume, but I've heard a lot about it. The people who made it to the gala event were talking about you at the northerly show. Any pictures by any chance? I wasnt able to make you out at the NI show when the boys pointed you out. How I missed a robot is beyond me....
