View Full Version : Justin Warfield
I made this whole thread about Justin Warfield the other day when I was a little bit inebriated - and I must have hit cancel or something, because it didn't exist the next day when I checked.
His CD "My Field Trip To Planet 9 (http://wc05.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:jnfwxqrgld6e)" is amazing, and his single with Bomb The Bass, "Bug Powder Dust" demonstrates some talent. I listened to his more recent work with She Wants Revenge, but I think he was a lot more accustomed to being a good drug store cowboy, naked lunch, beatnik culture rapper like he was on his first album.
Yeah, I like him. His flows are similar to the Digable Planets or A Tribe Called Quest. I have a song by him on Prince Paul's "Hip-Hop Gold Dust" album, called "K Sera Sera".

Yeah! Prince Paul produced his first album. Is that album like a compilation or something? K Sera Sera is a song on Justin's album, and he uses that phrase in another song or two. Lots of repetition with this guy.
Hip-Hop Gold Dust is a compilation full of unreleased tracks that Prince Paul produced, or I guess not all tracks are unreleased. It's a great album. I love "K Sera Sera", though... you can sit back and chill to it.

Has anyone heard the excellent Cornershop track "Candyman"? It's got a pretty ill verse or two by Mr. Warfield...

I'm a big she wants revenge fan but i've never checked his solo work. seen SWR several times last year and each time they got better and better. i'm afraid this new album might be closer to Depeche Mode sounding. i hope they don't completely become a DM rip off.

I like She Wants Revenge, but the only problem I have is that they just sound a little too contrived. I know that's not really a new thing, but I think you have to have a good mixture of authenticity and contrivance to make a great band. Maybe they'll grow on me with their next album.
