We had a new (temp?) bus driver today who managed to piss me off pretty fast.

First, she pulls up, lets off passengers, then closes the door in the faces of those waiting to get on. Waiting in the rain to get on. So we
kind of huddle back under the ineffective BART awning and wait while she ignores us, reading some piece of paper. After a while, she
opens the door. First guy gets on, says good morning, and she just ignores him while he puts his money in. His fare is in, she still ignores
him but hits the button that releases the money into the safe, and now it's my turn. "Good morning." She ignores me. I'm standing there
holding out my pass and she won't look at me. I keep holding out the pass, and she still won't look. Well, I guess that's an "okay," so I
move on to take my seat, when suddenly I hear, "I need to see your pass."

So I go back up front and hold out the pass and she gives it this long, doubtful look.

Gimme a fucking break.

She doesn't say "all right" or anything and still hasn't looked me in the eyes -- she just goes back to reading her piece of paper. Fine.

Anyway. Okay: she's black, right? So I'm watching, and, sure enough, anyone who isn't black, she won't speak to. Anyone who is gets
a "good morning" in return or "It's $1.75, hon" or whatever. So I try again as I'm getting off the bus -- "Have a good day!" and she still
won't look at me or acknowledge me in any way (except to not lurch the bus forward as I'm taking the bike off the rack).

I hope she's not our new regular driver.

Is it just me or do some of you have those days where you're either driving to or from work and it seems like an obstacle course? Cats running into the car's path, people jay-walking dangerously in front of you, swerving to avoid cars backing out of driveways without looking... and then other days it's a breeze with no issues.

Today was an obstacle course day.

It seemed like all the zombies were emptying out of the casinos at 7:55am and waddling down the streets, outside of of crosswalks, the bus driver was looking to get rid of the skiers rather quickly and that one grey cat...

I get the street+sidewalk version of those sort of days. Where people can't seem to walk in a straight line, so I can't get around them; people
on cell phones pull right into the bike lane and stop, not looking, etc.

This was also one of those days when the buses were mysteriously empty, as if there was some holiday that lots of people had from
their various workplaces or something. Usually, I'm about the fifth or sixth person on the bus; today, even at my usual stop, I was first.

Even when we got to the BART station, almost all of those regulars were absent. Kind of weird.

I’ve always thought a similar scenario would be a great way to start a apocalyptic style story…like instead of everyone going at once, you’d have a slow but steady decline of people, stores randomly closing, public services deteriorating…but with no acute sense of panic from those left around, except for the protagonist who would be conscious of it all and unable to control or realy comprehend in full….(lb)

None of this was a big deal, except that I needed to do laundry this morning. So right now, the only thing I'm wearing that's clean is a sweater.

The power did come back on about an hour before I had to leave, so I did at least get to throw on some rice.

today i played "crow jump". basically if you see a crow on the side of the road, you beep your horn and just try to make the bird jump, not fly away! silly, i know, but fun bye yourself or with a carload.

score: 3 jumps 1 fly away. i win!

This is the very best kinda snow though, spring snows are all big, fat, wet, juicy flakes and the air temperature is perfect..not cold in the least...beautiful...just by breathing you get tasty icy flakes in ya mouth...what's carazy is that by Sunday it's forecast to be plus 20!!!...it's life in the high plains...:)

Some loudmouth came to the bus stop bitching about how some bus had just passed him by or whatever. When our bus came, he got on
and held us up while he berated our driver, who apparently has had encounters with him before. So then, the whole way up to the BART

Dude, shut the fuck up.

I'm against graphic images on protest signs for the same reason I think "Fuck you" shirts or bumper stickers or whatever should be illegal.
By pretty much any community's standards, it's an assault of sorts. It's one thing for me to read or write "shit happens" on a message board
where people know they might encounter that sort of thing; it's altogether different when I'm out in my neighborhood for a stroll or at the

I kind of see it as: if it's a public display, it should have to pass the same sort of general audiences test that American films do. Say, G or PG,
since now you can say "fuck" in a PG-13 movie (and show some nudity, I think).

If it's some sort of forum -- whether city hall or a museum or a private business or a publication or whatever -- just have an "enter at your
own risk" sign or something.

I think I've mentioned before that we've got a really cool driver on the first bus each day. Sometimes guys sitting at the back of the bus --
particularly this one huge dude-- will just leave their coffee cups or sandwich bags or whatever -- just a little bit of litter which the next
riders -- or, eventually, the driver himself -- have to deal with.

So I'm the last one off, since most of the people are busting ass to make their BART connection and I have about a ten minute layover.
(It's like horses charging out of the gates sometimes.) Anyway, so I've kind of quietly been picking up the stray coffee cup or napkin or
whatever and pitching it, sort of doing my part.

Well, the main offender -- the really big guy -- hops off the bus each day and smokes a cigarette before he catches his train. And I
don't know if he saw me (I'm really discreet about it), but for the past week or so, he's been taking care of his own trash. That makes
me feel kinda good.

I used to be fearless with regards to heights, don't know if you went cliff jumping in the Seymour River in North Van when you were out there, but we lived for it...then about 6 years ago I was walking across a rope bridge over a fast running river, only about 25 ft up and 1/2 way across I just froze, looking at my feet and something to do with the white water swirling by with the height broke something in head and I’ve never been the same...

What about sharks?...weren’t you thinking about the sharks?...I always think about sharks when I’m in the ocean…even in a fresh water lake I think about sharks…I can get myself going about sharks at the public pool if I let myself wander...and yes, I'm jealous...:D

Obviously, in the end, sharks are nothing to worry about...

I get that too. I really hate things underwater touching my feet. I have these 'wet suit' nikes that I use when I swim in the sea.

Well we do have great white sharks and also bronze whalers but they rarely come so close to shore and eat you. only about 1 attack on our beaches each summer.

as far as stepping on things underwater, all there is is nice flat sand and you can see your feet clearly in the water so no problems there.

Well unless there is a sting ray buried under the sand so you can't see it and step on it. I've done that before.

on the way back to work last night, I saw a very eccentric individual who was talking to himself.

He got on the train and sat next to women who were by themselves and he'd have a conversation with them while he was talking on the phone.

He didn't have a phone, he'd talk into it and pass on messages to the ladies he'd sit next to from the phone conversation.

The ladies he'd sit next to would end up getting up and moving away so he'd sit and keep talking on his "phone" and get up and sit next to a different lady.

The whole car was laughing.

What did I see... a young woman on the bus today had kicked off her shoes and was sleeping, her feet up on the seat. More comfortable,

This morning I did a load of laundry before leaving for work. The washer and dryer are on a riser on the stairs that lead to the roof.

Anyway, on my way to pull them out of the dryer, I saw somebody in a hoodie curled up asleep on the stairs leading to the first floor.

I wonder if it was Nico, this guy who lives down the hall. One morning some months ago, I went up to do laundry and found him curled
up on the landing. He woke up and said he was sick and couldn't get to sleep in his apartment. I told him to go back to sleep
and I'd do laundry later.

He's a little slow, I think. Something is mentally/emotionally a little off. Seems like every time I see him, he's lost his job or getting a
new one.

It's weird -- now, this is just me and my prejudices -- but the thing is, he's this hell of a handsome guy. The guy could probably model
if people would put up with whatever it is that's wrong. And I have no idea why I think that good looking people can't have mental
problems; I'm smarter than that. But there it is.

Anyway, I don't know for sure if it was Nico or not. When I left, the front door of our "secure" building was open, so it could've just
