here's an excerpt from my blog about the virgin festival:
"BEASTIE BOYS!: I missed first 15 mins of this show and I'm so torn on how I feel about that. LCD (Soundsystem) was so awesome but the Beasties were even better. I was in awe when I walked up and saw Adrock rappin' to Root Down. I have ALWAYS loved the Beastie Boys but I had literally forgotten about them b/c I was so excited to see the Police. Honestly, this was the best show of the 2 days. They were energetic, they were geeky, they were acting like brothers up on the stage. I loved every bit of it. When they busted out "Brass Monkey" I thought I had DIED! I started dancing so wildly that I burnt my own self with Courtney's cigarette. At that point I called Ariel and made her listen to it over the phone. I was going insane! They played several songs with their own instruments including "Heart Attack Man" where they could just not get together on it. Cute little Adrock finally said "you guys should check this song out. It's on the 4th or 5th record. It's really good." soooo adroeable. He reminds me of my Matt so much! You know, if matt were older and a bit less irish and more on the jewish side. Mix Master Mike was intense, and I was in awe of his talents. I can't say enough about this set. They were a sight to see and I'm so glad I got to see it. "
i'll add that Mike D fucking CRACKED me up b/c he kept talking about "the mother fucking police" being next. i mean between every song it seemed. Adrock was picking on him b/c he wouldn't shut the fuck up... then the police come on stage and don't mention the Beasties even once. Mike was really hyper that night. he kept calling Baltimore "Ball town" (which i think confused the hell out of the Baltimorians, i kept hearing them talk about it later) and kept asking if people were from Laurel (a tiny town outside of Ball Town). haha.
if you can't tell from my blog, this was the first time i'd ever seen them... it will not be my last. i've always been a fan but after seeing them live it's like it sparked something in me and now i'm like everyone else, an uber fan. maybe it's my insane crush on Adrock. le sigh.
