Rock Hard is Def Jam 002.

I believe Horovitz was the one who first discovered LL and pointed him out to Russel. His album came out right before LTI did. I have no idea how.

Yeah, LL was the first artist to release something on Def Jam but I the Beastie Boys and Run DMC were associated with the label first. He just somehow beat them to releasing music.
