So yeah, I act like a little baby about TMU. I play it when we have guests and they all love it as ambient music, and I'm glad. I'm glad they made that kind of album, really I am. It's not the sound I hope they settle on, but whatever. If they do a part 2 here's hoping it's much more than voices over the original music.

What was I saying?

Cousin of Death. Love it. really. It's a superior track. But the more I listen to it, the less convinced I am about it being a guitar sound on there. It sounds like some synth-guitar thing, or maybe it's just a pedal effect. It's been bugging the shit out of me. Is there anybody with enough tech knowledge to tell me if there's a pedal that makes the guitar do that sound? It sounds like keys to me in some points, with a cross-fade and astro-fuzz.

I'm not saying I'm right. I just listen to the shit a lot, and want to know. It's like when I was a kid and I didn't know how they played all the instruments and rapped at the same time on the album version of So Watcha Want (yes comicbook-guys, I know they didn't *snort*). I like not knowing, but I wouldn't mind finding out.

I'm glad someone introduced this thread. As much as I love the album, I really do believe COD is the standout track. I mean, come on..that fuzzed-out bass is ridiculous! More bass in the face, please!

I've taken to playing my guitar along with it and the tune is centered around an A minor chord (for those musically inclined) with the turnaround consisting of G, then D, then back to the Am.

As far as I can tell, I think the lead instrument is keyboard, using some crazy type of portamento effect. It could be a guitar with whammy-pedal, but I think it sounds a little closer to straight up keyboard. I don't know. Either way, the song rocks so hard it really makes my nuts hurt. If anyone has any further insight, I'd love to hear it!

Also, I don't check every setlist, but did Cousin of Death ever make a live appearance on tour? I was personally hoping for one at either of the Chicago shows, but I don't think they've played it live yet. Am I wrong? I hope so. And someone has a recording of it. It would have sounded great following Futterman's Rule, or going into Sabotage (also in key of A). I need more Yauch fuzz bass!

This is soooo funny that this thread should begin now!

Not only do I agree but I've been working on vocals on this track on & off for a few weeks now & was just about to share it. Don't cringe -- I write songs anyway, and I began to sing along to COD in my car while stuck in Cubs traffic. Worked a miracle.

I'm going to put it in remixes. (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=1519768#post1519768)

i believe the only mix-up songs they've played live are b for my name, 14th st. break, suco de tangerina, the gala event,
electric worm, & off the grid. (lb)
