Right....

This is the official thread for the new Wu set...

OK, so i've heard "Heart Gently Weeps" ands its proper vintage Wu...same lineage as Tearz, Could It Be So Simple etc. Ok, so its just the Ghostface mix-tape track re-jigged but its a good song.

So far so good.

That song is cool. I like that a lot, very old-wu. I liked the first track they had up on wutangcorp, also. Even if the same beat was on Impossible Mission, I liked it there, too.

They didn't clear the sample. (http://www.sohh.com/articles/article.php/12701)

Auton
10-07-2007, 12:11 PM
^that's not the sample they pushed the album back for. besides them (mistakenly) refering to it as a sample on their myspace, it was always, prior to this, known that it was not in fact a sample, but george harrison's son on that track.

it's not a very good song. sounds like it was knocked out in an afternoon. the second half of ghost's verse was good though... otherwise, i'm pretty depressed by what i've heard from 8 diagrams.. the two tracks so far have sounded really lazy.

ps. every method man verse in the last 4 years sounds EXACTLY the same.

g-mile7
10-07-2007, 09:56 PM
God damn that songs a waste. It neither deep or exciting. And Raekwon is str8 garbage now. Ghost wouldve been better doing his verse from his first stab at the track.

good god what a let down...I mean the 3 verses dont even match each other let alone the instrumental. Ghost verse wouldve been better over a diffrent beat. The album aint looking like fire we've been waiting for 5 years for

Out of curiosity, is Cappadonna an official member yet, or is he still an affiliate like he used to be? The more I listen to him, the more I've started to like him.

Auton
10-08-2007, 05:39 AM
i don't think he'll ever be stated as an official member of wu tang clan, but seeing how his name was featured on the front cover of the W, and he had a individual portrait photo like the other members, and wasn't listed as "featuring cappadonna" like he was on Wu Tang Forever, along with the fact that the wu tang clan myspace page has huge links to each indivual's site, including his, i think it would be safe to say that is in fact an official member.

^longest sentence ever.

oh yeah, AND '9 milli bros ft. Wu Tang Clan' had all the members on it... including him. so yeah.

adam_f
10-08-2007, 07:17 AM
I guess he was even on the cover of Iron Flag originally (don't start) but they airbrushed him out, but I guess you can still see his leg somewhere in the photo. I just visited their myspace page and I guess he is a member, which makes sense because 8 rappers just aren't enough for an album called 8 Diagrams.

I just listened to Watch Your Mouth from the new album and he does some adlibs at the beginning, so I guess take that for what its worth.

I completley disagree with you. Cap's verses on Winter Warz and Daytona 500 off of Iron Man are two of the best wu-verses I've heard flow and delivery wise. Maybe his content could be improved, but at least he seems to "get" that he treads on the same topics.

This album is not better than the W in terms of strong, standout tracks. Rushing Elephants, Starter, etc. the list goes on in terms of meh tracks on 8Diagrams....let alone the W did the whole dark, out there, end of the world type of production and lyrical content much better and there was feel good music ("Protect Your NecK (The Jump Off), "Gravel Pit"). People just shitting on the W just to shit on it (which is expected it did come after Forever which was the pinnacle of the Wu). It had it's weak tracks (ex: "Let My Niggas Live", "Do Ya Thang Thang whatever"), but nothing as horrible as the tracks I listed below....

taken from Ghost Big Doe thread

and yea 8 Diagrams is one huge mess of an album....good god what a let down. From the production (Rushing Elephants sounds like some circus shit), to the lyrics (GZA rapping bout sex is not what I want to hear) to even the way some of the vocals were mixed down (looks at RZA's verse off "Life Changes" as an example) good god. "While the Heart Gentley Weeps" however came out better than I had expected from the Loud.com leak.

But then again the album has been getting a steady amount of support from some critics according to wikipedia.

But fuck where was Ghost on "Life Changes"? That track basically SCREAMS for Ghost to do some heartfelt shit over it...I think that was the biggest let down by far for me. All I know is I dig Ghost, but him ranting about money and then having an album cover with tons of money and the concept of the CD being he needs to recover from being addcited to money just seem hypocritical, even greedy (which I know his Muslim faith would look down upon, at least if your going by "genuine" Islam). You need to recover from your addiction from money? Well thats what RZA trying to help you with if he IS cheating you of money. But shit Ghost only on 3 songs and a hook....he can't be expecting THAT much cash from his little amount of work. and if Im Raekwon I'd be more angry at Aftermath and Dr. Dre then the RZA because they the main ones who are fucking with his shit on both a finaicial and creative stand point by pushing back OB4CL2

But Big Doe Rehab>8 Diagrams...its just more pleasing on the ears lyrically, production wise and even guest apperances.

Top 3 (cuz thats all I REALLY loved off the LP about):

Take It Back
While the Heart Gently Weeps
Life Changes

Bottom 3 (though theres more)

Rushing Elephants
Wolves
Starter (good god )

but after giving it a couple more spins it isn't THAT bad, but it certainly isn't that great. At all. I do enjoy "Get Them Out Ya Way Pa", Stick Me for My Riches, "Windmill" though; however, RZA tried TOO HARD to add guitar on tracks that did not require it ("Unpredicatble")...and it wasnt even good guitar riffs either.

g-mile7
12-18-2007, 09:47 PM
Yeah, if anyone finds this out post that shit up. I Googled it and found nothing...

And Cappa is growing on me I guess...

Cappa had a period where he was not too good (anything after '96 pretty much) but he isnt that bad. In fact, it seems that him and U-God have not fallen off and improved the most out of the Wu while GZA has fallen off the hardest (just too predicatable in terms of his flow, lyrics and delivery). But dude is 40 something so I will cut him some slack, he still is the Genuis after all.

Funny to think that this might be the last Wu album, and pretty much the last time we hear a Ghost verse over an all RZA beat ("Campfire")

Deep_Sea_Rain
12-18-2007, 10:14 PM
And Ghost on just 4 tracks...c'mon. I suppose we should be thankful that he's even on there, but they could've spread his tracks out through the album instead of lumping them all near the beginning...but other than that, solid record.

a lot of you guys are out of your gords.

here its like 85% to 15% of people who prefer BDR and think 8D is weak.

over on the wu site it the total opposite. people think 8D is really good. think BDR has low replay value and way weaker production.

i side with 8D best rap album in years. and BDR, while good, just another run of the mill ghost album that doesnt stand out in any particular way.

on a related note:

In a videotaped message from a tour stop in Norfolk, Va., Wu-Tang Clan member and solo star Ghostface Killah laments the fact that fans are illegally downloading his latest CD, The Big Doe Rehab, rather than ponying up the cash to buy it.

"I thought y'all motherf*ckers loved me man," Ghost said. "You know I go all out for y'all man, and I love y'all man, but y'all n*ggas be hurtin' the kid, because y'all don't wanna go cop our CD, you feel me? Y'all rather download our sh*t, which is cool, whatever whatever, whatever. But it's like come on man. We do this, we spend a lot of time in the studio, and puttin' this work in to come out with no results when we drop our albums and sh*t man." [See video below]

No slouch when it comes to mathematics, Pretty Toney knows that having over 100,000 friends on MySpace and selling under 50,000 albums in the first go-round doesn't add up.

"So I'm just saying that like 115,000 friends on the MySpace and I get like 30,000 or something like that in the first week, that's not good man, 'cause I know a lot of y'all got my sh*t, but y'all just downloaded it man," he said. "I'm askin y'all to go to the store and buy that. I'm using all these samples trying to put all this sh*t together for y'all man, and y'all n*ggas is still on that bullsh*t man."

Ghost debuted at No. 41 with his latest effort, pushing 35,600 copies in his first week and landing behind the likes of Scarface, Drama and Wyclef Jean. He said that numbers like those may make him quit rapping altogether.

"If y'all really rollin with the kid, snap out that sh*t man," he said. "This is real talk man. It's comin' from your homey man. Y'all n*ggas gonna make me leave the game based on n*ggas doin' sh*t like that man. I thought y'all loved me, man. Go cop that CD man, even if you downloaded that sh*t man, go to the store and cop that man. If you really love your man."

Ghost is even offering "personal meetings" with anyone who brings a CD to a show as proof of purchase.

"When I come to your town, show me that motherf*ckin CD," he said. "Show me the CD and we could all have meetings. I'll take a personal meeting with all y'all n*ggas every time I'm in the town, just bring me a CD to the show me and show me you did that, and I"ll sit there and kick it with y'all. We can get goosed out, whatever y'all wanna do."

"We can all have a pow wow," Ghost added. "But yo, don't front on the kid like that. I didn't front on y'all when I delivered it man, don't front on me like that man."
