There's like 52 other Tuesdays in the year. I don't know why he'd release it the same day as 8 Diagrams.

Yeah, so, the Wu's gonna let Ghost do his thing on Dec 4th. RZA pushed 8 Diagrams back to the 11th. So clear the way, Saigon and Styles and whoever else is releasing shit that day.

Ghost's doin 30,000 his first week. Easy.

I just heard the Wu song with Erykah Badu, John Frusciante and Dhani Harrison The Heart Gently Weeps (http://www.zshare.net/audio/400063520dd7f7/) and it only further proves that Ghost is so far and above the rest of the Wu, they should be bowing down in thanks that he's still with them. He doesn't need the Wu, but the Wu sure do need him.

"Rza ain't listening," Ghost revealed. "He wanted to make [8 Diagrams] how he wanted it and it ain't come out right. He wanna always do the whole thing himself, produce the whole album. We're like, let's bring in some other producers too. Bring in Kanye, bring in Pharell. You ain't gotta do the whole thing yourself. He wanna make his own instruments and s**t and it sounded real horrible."

I really disagree with this statement right here. I DO NOT want to hear wu tang over kanye or pharell. I like both of those guys producing tracks, but would not want them on a wu album. WU is supposed to be WU. The more and more i listen to the album, which is a bunch of times a day now, I like it more any more. It all fits. It goes beyond rap.

It's worth buying for the cheesy artwork alone. I'm surprised how much of this was produced by LV and Sean C aka Puff's latest incarnation of "hitmen".

g-mile7
12-06-2007, 08:36 PM
Clipse did basically the same cover artwork and it was praised as genuis, Ghost does it and its chessy........go figure

But the inside artwork I can agree was chessy (except for the image of Ghost in the goalie mask and then the outer sleeve)

Sean C and LV are pretty damn good (and been part of the Hitmen since 2001) some beats by them I would expect were either Jay-Z turn-downs or Jay-Z wants but couldn't have....the CD has been getting universal praise by critics (except lame ass All Music Guide when it comes to hip-hop) as well which always helps for justification puposes (in terms of internet babble).

Don't know though I mean I know its better than More Fish, Bulletproff Wallets but I dont know it's a great CD but in terms of ranking it amongst Ghost's catalog its a tough one. I did enjoy 9 out of the 13(minus skits and such) tracks on the album though...dont know....I enjoy it alot but shit Tony was on some morbid shit on this album (ex: Shakey Dogg 2, Walk Around), but it was good to hear Meth and Rae killin the tracks they were featured on

My favs:

**I'll Die 4 U (amazing.)**
Yolanda's House
Killa Lipstick (basically Camay with a gangsta spin)
Paisley Dartz (for the title alone)
Shakey Dogg fet Lolita (morbid ending but still an amazing track for a "sequel" of sorts to the OG...)

3 tracks he could have left off:

Supa GFK
White Linen
The Prayer (it wasn't that bad but it did kind of throw me off...)

2 tracks Im so-so about:

Toney Sigel (I put this because they cut Beans verse off when it was getting even more bananas by the bar, and also I hear the OG has Styles P on it so I expect that the OG has the full Beans verse...but it was a good showing by both Ghost and Beans)

Slow Down (kind on the fence with this one, I like Chrisette Michelle's voice but the beat throws me off)

it's a good CD, dont mind getting new Ghostface every year if its up to this level...gotta keep in mind that dude IS 37....he doesnt have a whole lot of time to take off 2 years...gotta hit the iron while its hot (blatant Iron Man reference)

It goes beyond rap?? WTF?? I mean the Neptunes, Just Blaze and Kanye would all be good chocies for Wu since they have "Wu" sounding beats in their catalog...it wouldnt be so much on the producers but the members picking the right beats provided by those producers (which is their main gripe, least Ghost and Rae, with RZA not giving them a say)...given Ghost has a pretty good ear and Raekwon is Ghost's closet partna' in the Wu, I could see why they got a gripe.

But seriously man, seriously. It goes beyond rap? What are they doing thats so beyond rap? If it goes beyond rap then it's not a rap album then...if thats the case that would explain why Ghost and Rae dont like it cause they are RAPPERS, this is supposed to be a RAP album...but in that regard maybe your right although I think Rae and Ghost would slap yoour mutafuckin kufi right off if you were rockin one.

It's alright in the background, better than no Ghost. I just feel like I've heard it all before.

I can agree, but then again, the minute Ghost strays too far from this formula people will start bitching.

It's a tried and true formula, I mean he adds his lil twist here or there (Lolita, 1st verse of Killa Lipstick with the twist at the end, etc.) as well as his story telling is still vivid as hell, but like you said it can be a automatic turnoff (like when he list off a bunch of items in a row thats one thing that stuck out as a "heard it before" moment on Paisley Dartz, but he flipped it in a way that sounded ill).Just needs to give it a couple of spins and analyze whatever story he telling)

But really though he's 37 and rapped about everything it seems like, what is there left, you dig? I'll Die For You blew me away though...the imagery in the first 2 verses as well as realness of it (and the beat is amazing)...easily the strongest track on the album. Took me back to "I Can't Go to Sleep"/"All That I Got Is U" type of feel. This album is not better than FishScale; however, FishScales "I'll Die For You" type of joint ("Momma") wasnt even close to touching this track...so it's basically a give or take and as sterotypical goes "if you took the best tracks from [FishScale, More Fish and Big Doe Rehab] you'd have a classic on par with [Supreme Clientele]"

But for 37 and to be producing this type of vivid lyricism is crazy....and you gotta analyze it as such. There things I would change with the album, but thats not my say. Not the best Rap Album of 2007 (where FishScale could justifiably be argued for best of 2006) but its a top 10, maybe top 5 in terms of mainstream albums out (I dont count underground cause that can go either, or)

And I really can't stand White Linen Affair....just one big shoutout joint. Least Shawn Wiggs rapped with a lil less annoyance on that join though.

Get out of this thread.

and yea 8 Diagrams is one huge mess of an album....good god what a let down. From the production (Rushing Elephants sounds like some circus shit), to the lyrics (GZA rapping bout sex is not what I want to hear) to even the way some of the vocals were mixed down (looks at RZA's verse off "Life Changes" as an example) good god. "While the Heart Gentley Weeps" however came out better than I had expected from the Loud.com leak.

But then again the album has been getting a steady amount of support from some critics according to wikipedia.

But fuck where was Ghost on "Life Changes"? That track basically SCREAMS for Ghost to do some heartfelt shit over it...I think that was the biggest let down by far for me. All I know is I dig Ghost, but him ranting about money and then having an album cover with tons of money and the concept of the CD being he needs to recover from being addcited to money just seem hypocritical, even greedy (which I know his Muslim faith would look down upon, at least if your going by "genuine" Islam). You need to recover from your addiction from money? Well thats what RZA trying to help you with if he IS cheating you of money. But shit Ghost only on 3 songs and a hook....he can't be expecting THAT much cash from his little amount of work. and if Im Raekwon I'd be more angry at Aftermath and Dr. Dre then the RZA because they the main ones who are fucking with his shit on both a finaicial and creative stand point by pushing back OB4CL2

But Big Doe Rehab>8 Diagrams...its just more pleasing on the ears lyrically, production wise and even guest apperances.

Top 3 (cuz thats all I REALLY liked off the LP about):

Take It Back
While the Heart Gently Weeps
Life Changes

Bottom 3 (though theres more)

Rushing Elephants
Wolves
Starter (good god :( )

I'll always give Ghost a chance, but I hope I'm not jocking 8 Diagrams so much I lose objectivity. It's better (in my opinion) than BDR but that doesn't make my tits jiggle. It's not that big of a deal to me either way.

Tony Sigel is a piece of shit though. That synthetic guitar sound is fucking irritating to me and Ghost is on his "One thing shouted, next thing shouted, the next thing unrelated but I'll still shout about it" flow. Fucking yuck. Beans doesn't save it for me. Supa GFK sounds pretty uninspired, too. Regular/Cellular/Bury Ya evokes Be Easy without the fun times.

Walk Around is pretty sick. The albums aren't mutually exclusive to me; I just prefer what's going on with the music on 8 Diagrams. Shit's divisive and controversial, for sure. Wasn't there an artist around these parts who was controversial and divisive? British guy?

8 Diagrams has some good songs and some bad songs, extreme let down. I felt like I was listening to a shitty mixtape song while listening to track 10. Capadonna is the weakest member of the group and really should be kicked out. Album is pretty weak, sorta seems like it was rushed
