Apparently the new DJ Shadow & Cut chemist tour is heading to dvd winter of this year, although the source of this news is rather sketchy.

Only live dvd's I have is the previous shadow and chemist ones, aifst and dj yoda at the movies. Unlike most of my other dvds, I usually only watch live shows once. Although I quite often rip the audio to my pc.

I hope! Product Placement is a damn good DVD. And I was at the LA show Shadow-Chemist did recently and it would make that DVD a little more special.

I think that How The West Was Won was the live album released at the same time as the Led Zeppelin DVD.

That Zeppelin DVD is probably the only thing we have in common. :)

My company is producing a live DVD of an aussie hip hop act.

We took in seven cameras and filmed a sold out hour long gig. I've been doing nothing but editing the damn thing for the last 2 months. I've begun to take on the pasty havent-seen-the-sun-in-ages look.

Hopefully I'll snag a few free copies of it when its out in Dec and I'll send it to a lucky few board members, I wouldn't mind getting some overseas opinions on it. I no longer have any idea if its any good since i've been watching it constantly for ages and I've lost all perspective.

live dvd's and surround sound, or some good fucking speakers, should go hand in hand whatever you buy. years i spent watching live dvds on my tv built in speakers which seemed fine, and then i got my 5.1 baby!

Johnny Cash - Live in Denmark (looks like it was recorded for a tv special or something) The music is great as usual but the set is dreadful and wobbly. The audience look completely disinterested and bewildered.

i have the 'song remains the same' dvd. the movie-ish one. it's alright; the movie clips for all the guys gets a bit too much. bonham's one is alright - he races a dragster whilst they/he plays 'moby dick'.

do you like Chili Peppers? their 'live at slane castle' dvd is awesome. otherwise, all i gots left is metal dvds; pantera's home videos/dvd, metallica stuff...

I don't know how to play, but I have (and watch frequently)

Led Zeppelin DVD
QOTSA Over the years and through the woods
AIFST
Scratch: All the Way Live
Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow Product Placement
DJ Shadow In tune and on time
Wu-Tang (whichever one that was ODBs last show/tour)
Rage Olympic Auditorium
Song Remains the Same
Gorillaz Demon Days Live
Kanye West Late Orchestration
Jay-Z Fade To Black
Wild Style (Shut up, it counts)
Up In Smoke (who didn't in 2000?)

and some others I'm forgetting. I love live DVDs. Of the lot, Led Zep, Rage and Wu are probably my favourites. I haven't bought any in aaaages, though.

I have...

AIFST
Metallica - ummm Cunning Stunts
Muse - Hullaballoo

but mostly I have live videos from my youth which I should really update to DVD... Nirvana - Live Tonight Sold out which is piss funny in places, guess it's not really a concert as such, a stack of Queen ones from my youth - oh yes - and the GnR Tokyo ones, which are really good.

But yeah live stuff can be good, certainly more a fan of videos/dvd's than cd's, which I find are way more hit and miss.

So for those of you with the Rage one's are they any good? I have their first video I think, it came with a free Ghost of Tom Joad single CD, and not to sound sad but it does have some amazing festival footage on it etc...but the DVDs I should really get. Mexico or the last show one?

The last show one is the only one I can comment on; it's pretty poignant, and a really good performance.

how is that qotsa dvd? does it have shit from all their albums they had recorded up until that point? or is just shit from lullabies?

Kid Presentable
10-25-2007, 09:41 PM
It has show footage from all their eras, the main concert is 2 U.K gigs. It's a shit mix, in my opinion. The drums on the main show sound like he's hitting pillows. The bonus stuff is excellent, though.

10-26-2007, 05:06 AM
Yeah I was wandering about the QOTSA one. A pity about the first gig then, there's some good footage on the Songs for the Death bonus DVD, but iIm not sure if that was released everywhere. It is Mr Grohl on drums though so it would have been a sin to have them poorly recorded!

Kid Presentable
10-26-2007, 05:23 AM
No, I wasn't real clear then. The actual footage is from Lullabies-era shows in the u.k. One from Brixton, and another from (I wanna say, but I'm not sure) Manchester. They're interspersed as the one show. The bonus stuff is footage from the self-titled era all the way through. That's where Mexicola, Millionaire and Auto-Pilot fit in. While the audio and video on the bonus stuff isn't the best, I think it sounds better than the main feature. Castillo's drums are just really washed out sounding for some reason.

Wu-Tang (whichever one that was ODBs last show/tour)
dude, is that the one the documentary is on? i've got a torrent for it but it's 4-fuckin-gigs and i can't wait that long. is it an actual dvd?

Kid Presentable
10-27-2007, 03:35 AM
There's a documentary on it, I think. But Wu-Tang interviews are at least as nonsensical as their between song banter circa 94-99, so I never watch it. Just the concert.

Tzar
10-27-2007, 03:48 AM
yeah i got the doco - is the concert an actual dvd or you got a bootleg of it?

Kid Presentable
10-27-2007, 03:52 AM
The concert is pro-shot. On the DVD (and bearing in mind I'm doing a shit job of explaining things) you can watch the documentary which is the interviews and concert together, or just the concert. So, it's an actual DVD.
