View Full Version : My Mixtape

I made a little compilation for my friend who's gone to uni cuz we always used to try and put each other onto different hip-hop when he was around. It's only like 16 tracks so you should be able to listen without getting bored.

Check it out, some rare shit, some more obvious stuff on there but it's all good hip-hop. Mix of underground shit and album tracks that I think are underappreciated. Anyways get it and let me know what you think.

I make my own. I know, I know. Penis insult. What's the tracklist?

Lex Diamonds
10-17-2007, 10:44 AM
You make mixtapes for yourself? How come?

Tracklist is:

1. OC feat. Big L - Dangerous
2. Royce Da 5'9 - Can't Tell Me Nothing (remix)
3. Kid Vishis Freestyle
4. Dizzee Rascal - Stand Up Tall
5. Termanology - Born Alone, Die Alone
6. Consequence feat. Kanye West - The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
7. Ghostface Killah - One
8. Wu Tang Clan - Can It Be All So Simple?
9. Nas - Surviving The Times
10. Jay-Z - Blue Magic
11. Movemeant - Higher (Breathe)
12. NYGz - Ya Dayz R #'d
13. Method Man & Redman - Cereal Killer
14. Jehst - The Return Of The Drifter
15. Outkast feat. Raekwon - Rosa Parks
16. Ludacris - Stand Up
17. Jadakiss - I'm A Gangsta

And separately numbered and album-named because I fucked up like a spastic:

50 Cent - Too Hot feat. Nas & Nature
50 Cent - I Get Money (Billion Dollar Remix) feat. Diddy & Jay-Z
Cam'ron - Let Me Know
The Clipse - Virginia

Even though you've probably heard most (or all) of it before I think I've got a nice order to the tracks and it sounds quite nice. I mostly made it cuz my friend isn't into a few of the artists and I want him to hear some of them.

I don't give people mixtapes because most of my friends are ignorant and dismissive about rap music.

Lex Diamonds
10-17-2007, 10:53 AM
Yeah that's why I went to the effort to make this for dude, he's the only friend I have who is really into hip-hop like I am and now that he's gone to uni I feel the need to share some shit with him like we would normally have played to each other in person.

Yup, they're the latest baby on his label. Check that song out on YouTube, the beat is hot and about 2/3 of the lyrics are nice too.

I have no idea why Premier gives beats to NYGz. He may as well flush them down the toilet.

Lex Diamonds

True. I get the idea that Primo tends to work with people he likes rather than people who are the best at rapping.

you out yo damn mind to think "One" is a 3/10 and "Surviving the Times" is a 9/10...let alone "Can it be that it was all so simple"

g-mile7
10-18-2007, 09:29 PM
that NYGz track at first I was like "typical Primo" which isnt bad, until the beat switched and I was like fuck!!

The song cool, of course somebody like Jigga, Ghost, Nas or even Saigon would've ripped it harder

What a sick ass beat....

Gareth

in padsters defence, primo can produce good songs without having good rappers rap on them, for example, some of group home's output
so not having good rappers on a song doesnt necessarily preclude the song from being good.
melachi and dap might be real cool people. who knows? i don't.

Lex Diamonds
10-19-2007, 06:56 AM
Yeah, chumps, it's still a good song. I don't have to defend anything, I'm not claiming that NYGz are the best thing out of NY since Biggie or anything, the song's on there because the beat is 10/10 and the lyrics are 5/10 which makes it like 7.5/10.

And since when was Auton an "expert"? He doesn't know shit.

For the record, I haven't heard a good 40% of what you posted, so I'll probably check your mix out. I don't really go out of my way to be on top of all the latest shit. If I can be, then cool. But one thing that shits me about rap music is how it's always about what's hot NOW at the expense of all the old shit. I've got Beatnuts albums from years ago to still listen to.

I like that people on here can point me in the direction of new sounds, but I feel embarassed by being a 'rap fan', especially when so much time is devoted to dissecting and disputing minutiae and it's always us. The same old bunch. It's got its good and bad. I know when people see rap threads, they have a good idea of who's gonna post.

One is my jam, though.

I like ya Paddy, but I meant how U basically did just agree with LOL...I didnt mean Auton, so read my post in proper context.

And if you believe that Auton doesnt know shit then you dont know shit. You dont know how heavily he's is involved with hip hop, music and let alone the industry since he's pretty quiet about it. 4reel Auton knows more then muthapluckas like you give him credit for. Internet or not.SMH

I agreed with TNLOL because I do agree with him. Like I said some of the lyrics are OK but it's the beat that makes it a good song. I got the NYGz disc as soon as it dropped and I've got to say I thought most of the lyrics were pretty average. The beats are all top notch though.

And I don't actually mean Auton doesn't know shit, I just don't like how certain people on here are thought of as "the experts" when they don't neccesarily know more than anyone else about hip-hop, they are just more vocal. I also don't get how you hold Auton in such high esteem, as far as I can see his views/level of knowledge are pretty generic and just fit with the mass consensus.

No offence Auton, I doubt you consider yourself as "an authority" either, cuz that would make you a dick.
