Is it Illmatic or Definitely Maybe? Is it possible to compare the two fairly?

i was already thinkin illmatic before i saw the choices, but i ddint anticipate one fo them being a groundbreaking indie record. so i can't really say.

I'd say Definitely Maybe, and Ill Communication would be third for me.

i'm gonna have to say Weezer's Blue Album was the best of the year.

but the releases that got most play for me were the Weezer, Ill Communication, Mighty Mighty Bosstones' Question the Answers and Bouncing Souls' The Good The Bad and the Argyle.

i only remember all of this b/c that was the year i graduated high school. :)

clearly that's just not enough. :p

of those two, Definitely Maybe. but those weren't the best of the year, in my opinion. so there, attitude. :p

Twice Removed (http://www.amazon.com/Twice-Removed-Sloan/dp/B00000IBBD) was the best album released in 1994

its probably only one of about 10 albums that I enjoy listening to from start to finish over and over.

"coax me", "loosens", "deeper than beauty" and "snowsuit sound" are my standout tracks

seriously, go buy it.

Sorry you people but there are only two choices. Definitely Maybe spawned a generation, and it could be argued that Illmatic changed hip-hop. The other albums you're mentioning are very good and all but they're just not contenders.

They're two of my favourite albums, but Definitely Maybe. I had it when I was a kid, and I'd rather go out singing tonight i'm a rock n roll star than saying i never sleep!

Lex Diamonds

I kind of want to say Definitely Maybe cuz of the personal value it has to me, it was the first CD I ever got and I kinda grew up on it as my brother played it like 10 times a day when it first came out. Illmatic is pretty much perfect as a hip-hop album, though.

Arrrgh it's impossible to choose.

Illmatic.

Looking back it was a very fine year indeed and all of these records were better than either of this polls selections....

"Ill Communication" Los Beazley Boys
“Crooked Rain,Crooked Rain” Pavement
"Weezer" Weezer
“Starlite Walker” Silver Jews
“Superunknown” Soundgarden
“Monster” R.E.M
“Mellow Gold” Beck
"Chocolate and Cheese" Ween
"MTV Nirvana Unplugged in New York" Nirvana
"Let's Go" Rancid

Don't get defensive because of your poor taste in music. It's my duty as a human being to let you know your opinions are wrong.

I've only heard a few songs from Oasis but I'm sure if I heard their album I'd still pick Illmatic.

Seriously. I vaguely remember "Champagne Supernova" and "Y'Know What I Mean" when they were on alternative radio a long time ago. They're not the superstars here they think they are in the UK. Besides, they sound like real twats from whatever I've heard.

you know, i like oasis alot, but i was really confused as to why paddy was saying it spawned a generation. i thought i was music dumb or something. then this post made me realize that not everyone is from the US.

ugh, now i'm a typical american only thinking of my own country.

so i go back to weezer. that album is incredible.

neither of 'em. Pulp- His N Hers was. in my lame, boring opinion of course.

both of those are really good albums, amazingly good, truth be told. His N Hers really is just one of my absolute favorite albums though, and I do personally prefer it to all the other 1994 releases.

^the 2006 double disc reissue is really worth checking out if you haven't already.. the second disc is actually as consistently amazing as the first, with some of the previously unreleased demos being some of my favorite pulp songs ever. it's definitely worth a listen (y)

oh wow, YES. although i didn't have a clue who PULP was in 1994, i will say that they are on my top 5 bands of all time and his n hers is my fave of theirs.

double disc re-release you say? is that only available in the UK?

hey, paddy, i was already making fun of myself for being a jerk.
